I don't know if this is a topic or not, but here goes...
You guys know how Nintendo's game consoles are mainly about the games, right? How no matter what (so far) they haven't plonked a DVD Player inside the Wii or made the Wii U a full blown media device that can also play games? And you are aware of people saying, "Being a strict GAME SYSTEM won't cut it anymore..." "Sony and Microsoft have the right idea with their media-device-game-systems," right? Then why not ditch the PS3s and 360s and go all out PC/Mac? I mean, those are media devices. Those can play games. Heck, look at everything you can do on a PC that you can't do on a game system turned media device. You can watch and download movies...browse the internet...make online purchases on things NOT related to your games...and even connect with your friends via sites such as Facebook and Twitter?
There is a REASON game systems are game systems. I actually thought it was a bit of a waste to watch DVDs on my PS2 or listen to music on my PS1 when I could just as easily pop in Tomb Raider or Burnout and have fun PLAYING GAMES.
I'm probably overreacting, but what do you think on this..."issue?"
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

or spending hundreds for custom specs.
PC gaming would have potential. But with the lack of proper controllers available, no touchscreen (which would lock out a LOT of game ideas) sans mouse, and the fact it moves along constantly, I just couldn't do it myself.
Because consoles are hooked to tvs and the average user doesn't want to tinker. I'm pretty sure the bulk of my time on my xbox is used using music and watching video content.
While there is nothing wrong with wanting a gaming only device but you sound like a old man yelling at clouds.

ORLY? I play Dungeons of Dredmor, which is mainly for keyboard and it's fun. I play Left 4 Dead 2 on keyboard and is weay better than the Xbox 360 pad.

You said that: THE BEST specd. If you buy a HIgh specs today at a costo of 699€ (more or less what a PS3 cost at it's beginning), you will still have a good Gaming PC that for most games will handle the highes graphics.
As i said before, you will only need 699€ for a superhigh PC, if you know how to handle it. there are stores thyat will build your PC for you and have the components you want and will be for 700€, and it will last A LOT.
In a way I do long for the days when game consoles were just game consoles/toys pure and simple, rather than wannabe PCs. In my eyes the GameCube was the last pure home console and the DS Lite was the last pure handheld console (having only one bit of pointless non-gaming software in Pictochat). I mean sure, some of the multi-media, non-gaming stuff is neat, but it's nothing I can't do better on my PC and on my smartphone. But then, that's the way things are going, consoles/home entertainment in general are changing/converging rapidly and it probably won't be too long until it's all one device.

I know I sound weird, but when people talk about Nintendo's consoles needing to become media devices like Microsoft and Sony's, I just wonder why all of those people aren't PC gamers because you can do just about EVERYTHING that you can do on one of the PS360 media devices and then some.
I, myself, really only play games on my systems. I do use the media functions from time to time, but looking at my Activity Log or Wii Message Board, you can see that I use my GAME system to play GAMES more than anything.
Boy, those clouds sure are moving fast...

Actually, with the technology these days, you can either...
A. Buy a controller for your PC games.
B. Use a 360 controller if given the option.
or C. Use a Wii Classic Controller if you can connect with Bluetooth.
But I pretty much agree wit hte rest. Excluding the touchscreen thing.

I don't have a PC, I have a Mac, but it's close to the same only you can't play all games made for PC on a Mac.
Anyway: I like playing games on my 3DS and sometimes Wii (I lack games on the Wii, so that's why I haven't been using it so much) just because I'll be away from all the things I can so easily access on my Mac. It's like a vacation from the stuff I should do, that I will remember when I turn on my Mac. On my Mac I hear a "bing" when I get a new mail and it's so easy to get reminded that I have to sort all the photos on my camera, update my website, pay some bills, log on to Facebook just cos I'm expected too, reply to some of the mails I still haven't replied too and then, I find out that's there a world event going on in WoW and I just need all the achievements on my priest... On my 3DS and on my Wii I get nothing of that and I love that I don't. I get to relax and focus on the game. I hope Wii U will let me feel the same way.
@BenjaminRosa I thought most of the people in Europe don't have that kind of money. There's a recession happening. If you put that into focus then you can see why so few people use PCs as main gaming consoles

ORLY? You said that: it's mainly for keyboard. @kyuubikid- You may want to read this since it's a resonse to your comment also- The problem is, my mistake, not that there are few controllers but that they are rare at least where I am and many games don't support them as I know. Sans cost controls are the biggest thing putting me off. Playing a 3D Platormer with a keyboard... I can only imagine how bad it would be, even Minecraft's controls aren't to my tastes. For PCs designed for gaming, they should at least get controllers with them! I don't detest it as an idea and I do think that should happen some day, I simply think it's impractical and I wouldn't invest in it at the moment. >_<
"you will only need 699€ for a superhigh PC"
"only"
"only"
Consoles costing $850AUD per generation/iteration/version would be a swift death for home gaming so it doesn't work for PC either. Especially since each new generation costs more and more. That's not an only price either and not reasonable at all. And from what I hear PCs need to be changed much more quickly than consoles. Add on all three major companies causing constant add-ons and the costs will skyrocket faster than you can think "wallet".
To be fair I do spend around that much on buying different versions of Nintendo handhelds and sometimes special edition homesoles but not only do I get much more value from them, I get more than just one device from them and they can be resold for worthwhile value later. Not to mention, they can't get any viruses (except Android although it's mobile) and they're a lot simpler to just get and use and put games into.
Minecraft loads like claymation on my 700KBRAM PC, and I'm simply not willing to spend $250 just to be able to play it normally on a better computer, because that's the only reason I use it at all. I'm dying for a laptop, but with the cost of a good one, I'll probably never get one for a long time since I actually lack and can't get a job(I'm too young FYI). ;_;
"you will only need 699€ for a superhigh PC"
See above.
@kyuubikid Just want to clarify, mouses would be an acceptable alternitive. I just don't like how they handle. Too slippy and don't work for drawing.
Another big reason is ease of use as well as having it on a big screen. I could proballybuild a xbmc machine but I find thinking with drivers and getting things to work just right annoying and not work the effort to be in the master race. And I know if me someone who has knowledge to do it other people won't. Its about convience and why a lot of companies are putting out products for the living room. Most people want something that can play, games, movies, music, as well as a host of other functions.
Its the reason why some companies like sony and micrsoft. Got until gaming in the first place. I think micrsoft said that more people were using services than gaming on the xbox in the last year.

Why not just get a PC if you want a multimedia machine, topic poster? It's probably a marketing thing. Gamers just want better online gaming, non-gamers don't seem to care, but marketing departments seem to think that people will pay more for a machine that does stuff that the PC they already own does better.
The general response to pricing concerns for pcs is that "You'll own a computer either way, so the cost isn't 1:1 with consoles". Controlling for the computer that you'd probably already be buying, and you're mostly just buying a better graphics card. Assuming that you do have to upgrade every two years, that means you're probably buying a lower end card, so you shouldn't be spending more than a $100, and things are looking pretty even, especially when you consider how easy it is to buy computer games for super cheap with Steam or direct2drive or gamersgate or gog or whatever digital distribution service you're using.
I'd say the problem with PC gaming is the lack of consistency, which is really the only issue I have with it. Most of the home consoles nowadays have an established network and servers that "have to" be used. In the case of PC gaming, even with the availability of platforms such as Steam, Origin and OnLive you still see many PC/console developers screw up their online stuff ie Borderlands, Call of Duty server fiasco, etc.

Actually Mircrosoft's Windows supports an Xbox 360 controller and some PCs support touchscreens.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
I use my PC laptop for everything BUT gaming. I don't see a reason for Nintendo to add all that junk into there systems, don't people have 10+ things in there house that play movies and such? Why doe our GAMING machine need a movie player and all this crap? Buy a dvd player, geesh.
I'll never stop liking Nintendo just cause they don't add something popular in there game system. And I agree with @Nibelilt, PC gaming isn't fun with a keyboard, and it's a HUGE pain in the ass to always upgrade just for graphics...BLEHH!!! People need to know graphics aren't everything, and there will be a point (basicly there already) where the graphics WON'T go up really much at all. Enjoy the games people, who cares about graphics at this point? It mattered when we where still only in 8-bit/16-bit territory which has been over 16 years ago!
