Hmm okay just like the topic says, why do they? I will use myself as a example. My dad works in the morning and I have to take care of my sisters. Every time my dad comes home and sees a little mess he gets frustrated and says it's the video games fault that I don't do anything. I then tell him that video games I play in opposite actually make smarter and studies have shown that. He then gets mad saying that video games is ruining my life, attitude, manners, and grades ( I get A's and B's). Does this happen to anyone else? Also is their a way I can fix this problem?
Try working on your grammar a bit, poor grammar doesn't help your argument. Still, I can understand why some parents can be like that, gaming is an addictive hobby and I won't lie, I am addicted as are most "core" gamers. I mean, my parents never cared because they decided it's better than me being addicted to drugs or alcohol or something like that. There will always be arguments for the pros and cons of video games, what's important is whether you're happy as well as you can be responsible enough to not let your hobby get in the way of your life. Your father just wants you to succeed. The only way you'll "fix this problem" is to succeed in life and show him that you are responsible with your hobby.

It's much tougher for parents these days with outside influences not being so outside in our tech rich world today. Parents are ridiculed for rotten kids, and are ridiculed for too much sheltering from influences, of their children.
Video games can wreck a life just the same as drinking too much. It's a matter of, is the thing you're doing affecting your life and responsibilities.
Why did parents in the 50's blame comic books? Why did parents in the 70s and 80s blame TV? Why did parent in the 90's blame heavy metal music?
It seems that every generation parents use something as a scapegoat when their kids don't do things the way they should and its usually something they don't understand. All you can do is not to let it get to you and show them by doing the things they ask how responsible you are. Basically don't give them any room to talk. Just watch how you enjoy your hobby. I mean if you shirk you chores to play video games from the time you get up to the time you go to sleep than well yeah they have room to talk. Just show them that you can be responsible yet enjoy your hobby as well.

Why? cause kids (including moi) are not very productive now adays and parents, instead of trying to get them to, just simply try and blame on the thing they think is causing it, but in a truth, kids wouldn't rly be productive anyways
My grandparents used to blame rock music on my parents, and my great grandparents used to blame those movie theaters on my grandparents, and i'm sure some ancestor of mine blamed books on their children.
Needless to say, there's always something or someone else's fault, when really no one is to blame but the way you parent, teach, and show a positive example.

Don't hate the game.Hate the player.Videogames don't cause people to become violent.Heck,my sister used to let me play Goldeneye on the 64 when I was young. It's because some people are just violent or have problems, but not because of videogames.Insane people do exist.

This reminds me of a story I heard about in a video.A teenage gamer had been hospitalized after he had a 96 hour CoD marathon. It's the parents that are the porblem. What kind of parent does not check up on their child when they've played a game for days without end? It's just people being irresponsible.

I think, at times, video games can be a bad influence. There is a certain maturity level that is needed to play certain games, which is what the ratings are there for.
Parents just need to become more aware of the ratings of the games their children play and restrict them accordingly. There IS slightly more to it, though. Parents can't really control the games their children play at friend's houses, school, etc.

Well as a person who works with teenagers ... Parents have the biggest influences on their kids either good or bad ... That being said I always feel when a person is complaining about something in particular .. Whatever it is... There is always something else behind the complaint/behavior that sparks the incident. Usually good communication afterwards will clear the air to figure out exactly what is the root of the problem.
