That's what I love most about the LEGO video games, the grunts and all are what make the game play so exciting and hilariously funny. I think that Nintendo should use some of of the techniques such as the grunts and outrageous humor from the LEGO games in some of the Toon Link Legend of Zelda games.
With the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda in vogue I think that it certainly isn't time to have Link begin speaking as it is in my humble opinion that I submit that Link's silence is his way of speaking. Link's silence is both legendary and iconic, not to mention that it is one of a kind in the he video game, TV show and movie sphere. Link speaks perfectly fine, in fact Link comes through loud and clear.
What I'm trying to say is that Link's silence is apart of the allure and luster of the Legend of Zelda franchise and to have Link begin speaking would shatter the power of the Legend of Zelda franchise.
What I don't understand is why people think games aren't (hip or with it) Unless the characters speak. They always say things like... In this day and age or With today's technology it should be possible to have voices. What's the matter kiddies? Afraid you might have to read? If they ever did give Link a voice everyone would hate it anyway. Let's just leave well enough alone shall we?

it would be awesome if everyone had voice's , but just make sure link only makes grunts and stuff

I would be fine with talking only if all Link ever said were generic things like Mario. I mean... he did say "Come on" in Wind Waker.
The only problem is, Link always has someone who's obviously Japanese doing the voice ( listen to enough japanese voice actors grunt and shout and a lot of them sound similar to Link ), so unlike Charles Martinet, he may sound really silly if he tries to spout too many english phrases.
I'm sure the 3 different 3D Link's have all had different voice actors, but they all have a similar sound to them, and I just couldn't imagine Link sounding any other way.
That said, I don't care if Link never speaks ever, and I certainly don't care if the rest of the cast never speaks ever. So long as there will be cutscenes to make it clear what is going on, I don't care. However if they do something like the Sonic Rush series, where it's just pictures and text, with no way of conveying what's going on around them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut-fngVfFLE Then I may have a problem with a lack of voice acting.

I'd like to point out that the best video game story ever, Mother 3, had no voice acting.
Well, Technically... They did have a tiny itty bitty eensy weensy sound bite ruding the rock paper scissors bit. The same person who provided that voice clip did Lucas in Brawl actually... incidentally it's also Luke, from that one Dr. Layton series.
I'm fine with no speech in Zelda. In fact, I think it's for the better. Remember Other M? Yeah. Nintendo isn't that good with voice acting, and it would definitely hamper the experience. Besides, we could all do with some reading once in a while.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
You don't see any other media doing the same with their own mute characters so that the audience can project their own thoughts into the character so why does videogames get a free pass on this?
Because it works.
Edit: It's really somewhat easier to identify to some extend with a mute character than with a character that has been given a preset personality by some screenwriter. As soon as the player controlled character starts talking of his own accord, there is a distance between the player and him, as it's not the player's thoughts the character expresses. At least that's what I feel about it.
In the end it's a stylistic choice that's up to the devs. Both work depending on the game, but neither is generally superior.
On another note, I wouldn't mind hearing all the other characters talk. Before they get a sub-par voice cast though, I'd rather have them remain silent or express themselves in gibberish, too.
I think Link should never talk- not only would that kinda ruin the feel of the game, it would get REALLY ANNOYING after a while. For other characters it might work, but it's hard to do voice acting right for a game. Most of the time it just turns out cheesy, IMO.
no voice acting, ever, for anyone, if it's ever done, whichever producer comes up with the idea shall be assassinated by myself in the dead of night by me throwing an angry Cucco into his or her bedroom
