Topic: What sketching phase is called when an artist does 2-4 sketches of the same drawing?

Artists commonly do 2-3 or 4 sketches depending on their art style and workflow, what is phase called when an artist draws 2-4 sketches of the same drawing?

It might sound sarcastic, but I would say it’s… the sketching phase?

Or perhaps you mean a “study”?
