Topic: What Movie Should FOX/Walden Do Next?

When it comes to both high and historical fantasy like LOTR, Robin Hood, Merlin, Eragon and Narnia one can never go wrong. However, we've got quite a roster coming out of 20th Century Fox and Walden Media with Incarceron, Here There Be Dragons, Beautiful Creatures and the debate as to which should go next The Chronicles of Narnia The Magicians Nephew or The Silver Chair (which Fox, Walden Media and Warner Brothers plans to launch as The Silver Throne).

However, I stand with the fans of The Magician's Nephew as I think that movie can ride the draft of the Lord of the Rings at the box office as it is more of a similar story with rings and all, not to mention it is personally my favorite out of the Narnia tomes. News has it that Fox agrees with us TMN fans as they put it to a vote on the night of February 28th 2010 and fans seem to agree as they cheered in favor of The Magicians Nephew over The Silver Chair.

So what do you guys think? Which is your favorite?

How about something not based on a book/TV Show/Movie so as not to seem butchered in comparison to said Book, TV Show, or movie.

Or maybe they should make a Magic the Gathering movie? Think that would be swell.

The last Chronicles of Narnia movie sucked Monkey Balls (TM).

@Mickeymac, Hmm...Magic the Gathering getting a movie? That would depend on who produces it. It'd be awful if it fell into the hands of someone like Michael Bay but in the hands of Guillermo Del Toro or Peter Jackson it could work quite well. Sam Remi (Spider Man Trilogy) is currently producing World of Warcraft The Movie and I'd like to see how that works out.

Still, I enjoy movies based on books. Peter Jackson did a splendid job with The Lord of the Rings and, Summit Entertainment, Walden Media and Warner Brothers have all did a marvelous job with The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter and the Twilight Saga in my opinion and the new Red Riding Hood looks good to. I'm a very bookish person and I love movies based on books although I'm sorry that Fox failed to finish the Inheritance Trilogy.

BTW I'm sure you guys will agree that Incarceron can translate beautifully to the silver screen.

With Taylor Lautner and Emma Watson this film is a MUST see! Simply read the write up on the magical cast: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/2011/02/11/he...

World of Warcraft The Movie?! You have to be joking...

Will it be 2 hours of watching people either butt naked or wearing grimey shirts with square eyes sitting at a computer screen playing WoW?

Or will we see the world of Warcraft come to life for our viewing pleasure? I doubt any WoW fan will go watch it anyways... they have leveling up to do.

On-topic: Not all that into movies, but I did enjoy the Chronicle of Narnia films, never saw the last one though...

Never enjoyed Fox/Walden films either...

You'll be too busy with Spider-man eh? Interesting... I thought they weren't making another film for Spidey but yet again, I am probably wrong

It's a reboot. It'll be very different from Sony's Spiderman series, since this will be made by Marvel's production company. And supposedly has THE LIZARD

Woah! That is the most pathetic costume ever! I hope that screen was a joke. Perhaps they'll enhance the suit with the computer CGI the way they did in Toby McGuire's Spider Man films.

@Mickeymac, here read the synopsis. It's quite fascinating.

"Imagine a living prison so vast that it contains corridors and forests, cities and seas. Imagine a prisoner with no memory, who is sure he came from Outside, even though the prison has been sealed for centuries and only one man, half real, half legend, has ever escaped.

Imagine a girl in a manor house in a society where time has been forbidden, where everyone is held in a seventeenth century world run by computers, doomed to an arranged marriage that appals her, tangled in an assassination plot she both dreads and desires.

One inside, one outside. But both imprisoned.

Imagine a war that has hollowed the moon, seven skullrings that contain souls, a flying ship and a wall at the world’s end. Imagine the unimaginable. Imagine Incarceron."

I want adaptations of the rest of the Narnia books, although I personally wouldn't mind too much if they skipped The Horse and His Boy. I'd rather have The Silver Chair for the next film (I'm kind of afraid people will forget about Eustace), but The Magician's Nephew could seriously be great if they do it right.

I do not mind movies based upon books. I enjoy them for what they are, not what they could have been (ie. a 12 hour long tetra-ology). I enjoyed Eragon for the most part. I enjoyed the books as well. Some differences were a bit annoying, but it was its own movie. That being said, there are examples which are just plain bad. Like I said Prince Caspien, or whatever its called, sucked. Twilight was garbage, however, the book may have been the same, in which case... no, the movie just sucked. I have seen some bad King adaptions, some magnificent King adaptions and King adaptions which people say are bad, but were actually quite enjoyable. You just have to accept the movie will be different. The only time I have ever witnessed different was from TV mini-series.

Now, what is usually fairly good are movies based upon short stories. Some short stories are incredibly difficult to adapt however; if you have read these types of stories, you will know what I am talking about. A lot of times these stories allow for liberties to be taken with the stories. One example of a short story gone wrong is I Am Legend. I saw the film first and enjoyed it for the most part, but it was not great. Read the short story and wow! The story was amazing and I really wish they had actually followed it... Great read though, definitely recommend it.

Ooo, Magician's Nephew would be awesome. I hope they manage to make the whole series into films. I haven't seen TDT yet, but I liked the other two a lot.

@irken Intriguing... I was always hoping to see Carnage in a Spiderman film though. Will it be cartoon or realistic though? I liked Spiderman 1-3's realism, stunts and very good stories (except 2, I found it slow and boring).

I'd love to see a Spiderman 3D film. Went on a Spiderman 3D ride at Universal Studios, and watching Doc Ocks claw come right up in your face was epic! Then Spiderman flinging him away before he touched you, absolutely breath-taking.

Anyways, I think I'm going off-topic.

Your post was a great read. I read it three more times just to digest it. It seems as if you and I should start a book/movie club together xD! Together we can ravage the galaxy as Darth Scholar and Emperor Bookpatine.

@Stine, I've got to break it to you my friend. Back in 2006 when I read 'The Horse and His Boy' for the first time in my life I was head over heels in love with it until I read 'The Magician's Nephew'.

Now here's how my favorite Narnia books stack up:

Top Smack Favorite: The Magician's Nephew

Top Up Card Favorite: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

Rolling on the Floor In Midgard Favorite: The Horse and His Boy

Lowdown on the Prairie Favorite: The Silver Chair

BTW check out this anime Narnia poster:

Does anyone think 'The Magician's Nephew' poster will be as awesome as this one from 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe?

I also wonder if they'll use Brandon Heath's Leaving Eden durning the length of the movie or in the credits?
