With Alphadream declaring bankruptcy, I started thinking about other developers that Nintendo doesn’t own but regularly publish games from such studios.
And then I remembered Skip.
They’ve made games with Nintendo for years, yet it’s been almost 4 years since they’ve released Chibi Robo ZIP Lash. Their games are rather hit or miss, but I hope that they’re still around. I want an HD Chibi Robo, gosh darn-it!
@Toy_Link another one thats vanished into the ether is Treasure. Cing did as well. I think that's part of the reason it feels like Nintendo are putting out less games. The studios they used to publish games for have gone out of business.
@Wargoose I read somewhere that Treasure as a company has less than 10 employees now. They only bother with re-releasing their classic games.
Some companies only put out great games because of the people they employee to make them rather than the infrastructure so it might be the case they lost too many key staffers. Like how Rare lost a lot of their key guys and then never really recovered.
@judaspete The one game I really wanted to see them tackle was Starfox, Sin and Punishment 2 was the apex of on rails shooters. I'd love to see what they would have done with fox and co.
@Wargoose they would have been perfect for that. I was never bothered that Wii didn't get a Starfox, because Sin and Punishment totally filled that void.
Some guys from skip was hired from nintendo after the seminars, that happened soon after something bad happened to skip. I tried find where I readed it to post the link, but not found.
It's probably not the best idea to keep making games that less people want to buy that keeps getting less marketing when you could do anything else.
This is true of both Alphadream but especially Skip. I'm really baffled anyone thought "ok but the 5th time is the charm" for a game that started as a niche, late Gamecube game.
@kkslider5552000 It's a valid point. I love Chibi Robo (even the games that nobody else likes) but maybe they should've tried something else entirely, rather than make Chibi a platformer. That said, I'm glad Chibi Robo got his own amiibo. It's probably my favorite in my collection.
