I dressed as Misty once for halloween, because we both have red hair and the same stick figure (even though I'm 22...) But I froze to death. So I think cosplay is retarded.

This thread is off to a wonderful start.

I think it's fine. Have you seen how creative people can get with it? It's cool. I wouldn't want to stop their creativity.

I was just kidding, it was more of a comment on my stupidity for wearing shorts and a tank top on a 40 degree day.

To me, cosplay is a bit like beach fashion.

In theory it's awesome. Girls in little bikinis (or Vanille costumes). For the ladies, shirtless hunky men (or.. I have nfi). In practice, well, some of these people should consider a gym membership first.

Hahahaha oh yes. I enjoy watching fat guys walking around in Mario costumes though. It's quite funny.

Just for you.

Cosplay is awesome.

After all, who doesn't want to see Rydia, Aqua, and Rosalina IRL?

Well, that's only appropriate. I was thinking more about this 140+ kg guy I saw at a convention once dressed as Szah (FFXIII). It wasn't pretty.

You poor man. I can just imagine your face when you saw him. Probably something like this:

The case FOR cosplay:

Mmmmm, Yunie!
Untitled
Vanille, you're anything but vanilla!
Untitled

Ok, I took "Tifa" down (what Zez and Gundam were referring to, not Vanille). But, you poor folks who already saw it, will NEVER UNSEE IT! MUHAHAHAHAHA!

To me cosplaying is basically an "Adult Version" of playing dress-up. I'm not insulting it (I've done it myself), I'm just saying that the want to become something other than yourself for some attention/fun/showing-off-of-skill is still present. Now, as for my opinion on how well specific cosplays work, the pudding is in the seriousness and attention to detail. If someone is really serious about their cosplays (NOT akin to fat otakus dressing up as ridiculous anime fetish-girls) and actually does hard work on their costume, most people will appreciate it and not see them as ridiculous crazies.

I went to a party as Henry from the No more heroes series before if that counts and I'm going to a fancy dress party for a friend's 18th. Does anyone know an online store that sells cosplay of JRPG characters in £s? I'm hoping to go as Mithos from Tales of Symphonia. I hope to go to a gaming convention in cosplay at some point in the future.

i searched for the mithos cosplay online- seems that many shops don't stock it. however, i did find this tales of symphonia cosplay section here:

http://www.milanoo.com/Tales-of-Symphonia-c511

not sure if this will be of help to you

Most of those characters were from the sequel which I haven't played yet and as awesome Kratos is, I'd rather dress up as someone with a hair colour that's at least close to mine but I noticed that they had a Tales of the Abyss section with a Guy costume so I might go as him instead. It may not have had what I was looking for but it still helped as there's the Guy costume so thank you for the link!

So I'm guessing by the comments here I'm the only one who doesn't find cosplay all that attractive anymore. Maybe it's because I'm in college and having seen some stuff. Or because I'm older and have and having an intreast in fashion may be part of it.

But a girl dressing as vanilla isn't as great as a Chicken wearing a nice one piece and some killer Jimmy choos around the house.

That and I'm surprised that most collateral I know are able to work now amazing costumes but suck as dressing in real life.

But I'm pondering going as the red hood from red hood and the outlaws. Beyond the helmet is have all the different pieces of his costume already around

WAT!

I never play dress up, and I haven't really been exposed to much cosplay IRL, so when I do see a cosplayer I can't help but stare. I'm just not used to seeing something like that and it looks so...off.

It's not something I'm personally interested in doing, but I don't have much of a problem with other people expressing their fandom through cosplay. It's all in good fun. And I have to admit, some cosplayers do a really impressive job.
