...really? Have you seen just about anything that any UK government has done in the past 50 years? Saying "we've decided something needs to be done - here's a list of third party chancers that say they'll do it and we've just made it the law that you pick one of them to give money to" is pretty much the high water mark of their level of responsibility.

On topic - the way that UK law functions in practice means that scare stories about how wide a net will be cast, how "oppressive" it will be etc. will be just that - scare stories. We don't have politically elected or appointed judges and the way our law is interpreted has an element of "common sense" about it (although I appreciate that some people/businesses act as if this is not the case and that social media needs to make every molehill into the mountain that you should want to die on).
