Topic: Voltron: Defender of the Universe

Well both Voltron movie and corresponding movie are extremely well underway in production as is made clear by these images and more at the following link. My only worry is will they retain the magical feeling surrounding the original show?

It's funny you should mention Voltron. They have every season on netflix for instant viewing. I've been watching them all for the past few months. This and Transformers were my favorite cartoons of the 80's. You just know they are gonna screw this new movie up though. Just like Bay butchered the Transformers. I can see a bunch of younger kids thinking this is a Power Rangers rip off. Voltron was way before the potty trainers.

It is my hope that JJ Abrams will produce the Voltron movie because I love what he did with Star Trek XI.

Yeah that Star Trek reboot was surprisingly good. I'm not even a huge fan but that movie was amazing! Makes the old show look like a snore fest. I loved the Leonard Nimoy Cameo. Too bad he wasn't in the movie longer but he is getting pretty damn old.

Aren't Nimoy and Shatner both supposed to be in the upcoming Star Trek XII?

I know that it was just announced that Nimoy is going to be the voice of Sentinel Prime (Forgive me if I got the name wrong) In Transformers 3 (Still cant call it something that sounds like a Pink Floyd album).

Yes, I know right? I'd expect 'Dark of the Moon' to be for a fantasy/ medieval movie or something along the lines of S. Meyer's Twilight Saga or R. Sterling's The Twilight Zone but not something like the Transformers franchise.

BTW isn't Disney supposed to making a reboot of 'The Twilight Zone'?

Whoa no way Nimoy is voicing sentinel Prime?! That's the first I'd heard about it. That's awesome! I loved him as Galvatron in the 1987 original movie.

That's cool. Maybe Transformers 3 won't be so bad after all. Adding Nimoy to the cast will certainly give the movie more character. Now I'm a little more excited.

About the new Voltron cartoon. This news, and new Tron cartoon news both sadden me deeply.

Instead of coming up with something new they insist on messing up the classics.

Lion Force Voltron was the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Don't be a downer in my thread man! I like the new Tron cartoon from what I've seen.

Both Tron Legacy and the new Tron animated series make that old Tron movie look like a broken down gas station from the land that time forgot. I, also am willing to paddle it out on a river of doom with anyone who says nay to the new Star Wars movies. True, the old movies will always be the Crowns of Gold (God bless Alec Guiness and Mark Hamil and beautiful Fisher) and rightfully so. Nothing beats the original classics.

Yet, we must remember that the new movies can be just as enjoyable.

Many people said all kinds of trash and cruel things about the new Star Trek movie that JJ Abrams was making and then once the movie hit theaters they all clammed up. Let's give the young minds a chance to show us what they can do before we judge their work. You can't pass judgement on something for raping your childhood if you haven't even seen it. We haven't seen either the new Voltron or the Tron toon save for trailers and concept art. Let's sit back and leave all that in God's hands and hope it'll be just as good as the original source material. I think the new ThunderCats might be just as good as the original although I can't say the same for that new Looney Tunes, yet I'm still going to watch it with an unbiased mind.

Judging by the track record of remade cartoons it's safe to assume it'll end in disaster for the older fanbase.

This is sadly true 99% of the time*. I'll be happy to be proved wrong, but i ain't holding my breath. I'm personally expecting that the new Voltron will be utterly horrid, sad to say. Ditto for the Tron 'toon, which i really hope i'm wrong about, as i have absolutely loved Tron for nearly 30 years now (insert obligatory "get off my lawn" comment here).

Actually, the trailer looked pretty good with all the signature characters returning (except was Panthro there? maybe they'll introduce him later as part of the first story arc, hmmm), and i'm curious to see how it turns out. It will never be able to match or capture the magic of the original (i don't think any remake of any 80s show will ever be able to that), but it may turn out to be pretty good in its own right.
