Didn't watch the direct, cause I don't got time for that, but looked at the announcements after and it sure seemed jam-packed. Even if I'm not really sold on the game personally, it does look like it'll be exactly what most people want, which is cool to see.
I had a thought: If Air Riders is bringing back the courses from the original Air Ride, does that lessen the likelihood of that game being added to NSO?
"Now I have an obligation to tag along and clear the area if Luigi so much as glances at a stiletto."
@N00BiSH I mean... Link's Awakening was brought to NSO even though the remake existed. 3 and a half years later I think? Mario 64 came to NSO much faster but that was a bit of a special case since all stars wasn't being sold anymore. I wouldn't expect GameCube Air Ride to come anytime soon, but no reason it wouldn't come eventually.
I did the tutorial; waiting on the full multiplayer trial.
One control I am not a fan of is the wiggle stick thing to spin. I wish that were just a different button ... it would feel much better as a shoulder button action.
Also the tutorial paused me every 3 seconds to say 'you can still move forward without tilting' so there is something weird about the sensitivity since I was simply turning and not tilting forward. But when I was actually flying the tilt worked precisely as expected so who knows.

It would definitely be much easier to use if it were just its own button but that's probably part of why it's not. It's hard to just spam it constantly when it's tied to the same stick as your movement so it kinda encourages you to only spin when you actually need to.

That's pretty odd. Was it showing up when you weren't using the stick at all or like when you were turning left or right or something? I played through all the tutorials this morning and I don't recall that popping up at all for me.

Just when I was turning. But that is a lot of the time.

They could have a cool down or something. I don't want to spam it, I just want it to feel better to use. That's even more important when there are very few controls in the game.
i find with the spin that you can do it super quick and it doesn't have to mess with your turning at all. (edit: for the record, i don't find the quick spin that annoying. you really don't need to use it much anyways. im not one of those people that's totally turned off by weird control quirks.)
also what do you mean about that second bit? they just mean you don't have to tilt the stick forward to accelerate, it's just reinforcing that you move automatically. you can directly tilt the stick up or down while breaking to adjust how fast you stop.
My problem with the stick wiggle for the spin attack is that I can’t help but feel it wears down these extremely expensive joy cons faster so I really don’t want to use it…

Sure... and it paused my game to tell me that about 30 times during the tutorial. Multiple times in the majority of the tutorial sections. Right in the middle of me doing something else. Even though I was not in fact tilting my stick forward, I was simply turning.

I admit, I felt like that a bit too 😅 I felt similarly playing the street fighter 6 demo. After how much my original pro controller misbehaved over time, I am kind of protective of my amazing feeling pro controller 2 and want to do nice smooth movements rather than jerky ones.
@FishyS are you sure you're just tilting straight left or right? also, check your calibration. i know you say it works fine in the air, but that's because you have much more control in the air anyways. after all, since you've seen the tutorial, you are aware that tilting the stick to keep yourself parallel to the ground is an important part of the air control in this game. if you're turning as they want, it's something with your controller.
@squiddu-real It's a new Switch 2 pro controller. It works extremely well on finicky platformers and fighting games which mess up if there are incorrect up or down inputs. Much more precise and lacking incorrect inputs on those types of games than any controller I owned previously.
And... even if my controller were totally broken (which it's not), why did the devs decide it was a good idea to have the same message literally dozens of times and pause your unrelated tutorials for something which, at worst, does nothing?
I finished all the tutorial sections first try so it clearly didn't think I had any major problems aside from spamming me with that one error message.
@squiddu-real I have played the real game now. The error message was apparently just a bug in the tutorial. If you press forward in the real game it does still give you that error message but I only got it after half an hour by purposefully trying to get it. Also, it buzzes your controller when you press forward which wasn't happening in the tutorial since I wasn't actually pressing forward.
I have tried it out now. Played with Fishy for a bit too! A little too hectic for me I think. I think this weekend will be enough for me to get my fill on this one. I adore Kirby and the lore, but racing games just aren't quite for me.
I will also just say, the fact Kirby doesn't say "HIIIIIIIIIIII" when you wave in the paddock to greet other players feels wrong after Forgotten Land!
Also, I think the game gave me a headache. I know there are plenty of adjustments you can make to shake and such, but not really sure what I would tweak for it to not make me dizzy.
I tried the different modes for a while now but yeah, this one is both too chaotic and boring at the same time. I really dislike the controls and mechanics on a fundamental level as well. Just feels bad to play. The speed also makes it way too twitchy. A rare miss for a Sakurai game for me personally.
@OmnitronVariant Glad I am not alone on that one. Yes, I think that sums up a bit of what I feel too. After about 40 mins of it, I really feel I have experienced enough. Maybe I will try again later while still free, but I am very cautious now with the headache and feeling slightly motion sick from it...so maybe not!
