@Ryu_Niiyama If that was the case then old cars should be sold for $100? A Model-T Ford was $25 when it was put to market in the early 1900s. That makes no sense. While the CURRENT market is insanely high, paying slightly more for games that have less of a print run isn't going away. If this was the mindset the term "collector" wouldn't exist. I have a massive collection. Worth thousands, but I don't collect to turn around and make a profit. It's for me only. I don't sell my games ever. Things will calm down. I did a bunch of holy grail purchases in 2019 and they were fairly priced. COVID changed everything. A bunch of young people got bored, bought retro games, and now they all want to sell it, but want triple profit so there's no supply anymore. They won't let them go for cheaper. The market will burst at some point.

This info comes from a local game shop down the street from me. I talked to the owner after two years of not collecting during the pandemic and he said it's terrible right now. No one wants to sell and everyone wants stuff. Prices are just now starting to drop on some stuff, but certain things will never drop probably. I could get a boxed SNES for $100 in 2019 in great condition. Now a yellowed and cracked one boxed is $250.

A collector's market is a collector's market. If you want a certain piece of ANYTHING you have to wait it out or pay the high price. The most I ever paid for a retro game was $200, but it was super rare at the time and I had never seen one in person and eBay listings were rare. When they did pop up I wasn't collecting at the time. Right now retro horror titles are incredibly high. Especially PS1/PS2 era stuff. Kuon is $900 and Rule of Rose is $600 complete. Screw that noise. I have a massive horror collection, but the few I'm missing I won't pay those prices for. Some people will though! It's dumb, but they will.

@BlueGBAMicro Are you selling any of those Pokemon games? My wife is trying to increase her collection and it was put on pause after Sword/Shield came out and the prices went to $250 a piece.

@BinaryMessiah I won't be selling the GBA or ORAS Pkm Games but will be selling X/Ultra/Sun and maybe HG/SS which both have the Poké-Walker.

@BinaryMessiah you seem to be heavily invested in this. But yes I still stand by what I said. These are games, not necessities nor do they do more than provide entertainment. Their value as with most things people collect are because people with a lot of money drive up the market. Especially given that the resellers aren’t manufacturers and their sell puts no money into the pockets of the original creators. So why drive up a price that one’s only contribution is that they happen to own it? To turn a profit or money laundering. It’s not as if your model T example matches inflation. No it matches what a bunch of people that have no part of its construction or marketing have bid it to be.

So it’s very obvious that you feel the way that you do and you are fortunate that the market and human greed agrees with you. I do not. Just because something is the standard doesn’t make it right. @BinaryMessiah 😅😅😅 The lowest like-for-like (CIB, in excellent condition) on E-Bay is £150 ONO so I'd go £130💷
