Hello! Today, I'll be posting my top 10 favorite Mario games of all time! Note: These games are based entirely on my opinion and aren't based on other people's ratings. Feel free to comment your own favorites.
1.) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (GCN)- Ok, it was an incredibly close call, but I'd have to say that Thousand-Year Door is my all-time favorite Mario game. It has a good story line, fun gameplay, and a great soundtrack. Even if you're not a big fan of RPG games, I highly recommend it.
2.) Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)- This game has absolutely stunning graphics and incredibly fun gameplay. The only thing keeping this game from being number one is its lack of a deep storyline. In the game, you explore a vast variety of galaxies, each with their own unique environments. They range from volcanic, to desert, to snowy galaxies and more. You'll also encounter plenty of original enemies.
3.) Super Paper Mario (Wii)- This game gets a lot of hatred because it isn't considered to be as fun as other Paper Mario games. While it is true that the gameplay doesn't stack up to its predecessors, as it removes the turn-based battle system, it has by far the deepest story line of any Mario game. I admit, even though I'm a boy, there were a couple of parts of the game in which I nearly cried. The backstory of Lord Blumiere and Lady Timpany was truly touching. What the game lacked in gameplay, it made up for in its surprisingly complex plot and music that I'd say slightly surpasses The Thousand-Year door.
I shall post the rest of my top 10 at a later time. In the mean time, please comment your own favorite Mario games and stay tuned for the rest of my top 10.

I haven't played Super Mario Bros. 2 (Doki Doki Panic) + Super Mario 64 yet. I know I know, it is a terrible thing I have done. Please don't stone me. I actually want to get the original NES + Nintendo 64 consoles to play these bad boys on.
10. Super Paper Mario - This game is probably really flawed but the creativity and humor made me forgive everything, it was so good at that. Decent story too.
9. Super Mario 64- Classic, beloved for a good reason, not quite as good as I used to think it was but still holds up far better than it probably has any right to.
8. Super Mario RPG - This game might actually match Earthbound for being a game that was unlike anything seen before or after outside of games inspired by it. The graphics and music are amazing and unlike anything else on the SNES and the gameplay is as unexpectedly timeless and enjoyable as SNES JRPGs tend to be. But I will say even for Mario RPG or SNES JRPG standards, the story is really weak beyond the humor.
7. Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Not as good as the first game for me entirely because it wasn't the first one tbh, but it's still a fantastic gravity-filled 3d platformer that's as good as the first, arguably better even.
6. Super Mario Bros. DX - I honestly like this version so much that despite the main game being mostly unchanged from the original, I can't enjoy the original nearly as much because it's pointless compared to this version. Nostalgia bias I'm sure as this was honestly one of my favorite games growing up.
5. Mario Kart DS - Still the best Mario Kart despite the less interesting levels and music. Especially in 2005, where not only did it add cool missions and retro stages and perfected the controls but it was Nintendo's first online game ever. That was so cool and I put more time into this game than I should for a racing game. Like, I got the best scores for nearly every mission and everything. I don't even beat mirror mode in other Mario Karts...
4. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Nostalgia bias, but less so than it used to be. It's still...Mario 3, I don't have to say anything else.
3. Yoshi's Island - Perhaps the most perfect 2d platformer I've ever played, every single second of this game is amazing and inventive and memorable and fun.
2. Super Mario Galaxy - This is one of those games that made me feel like I was 5 playing my first video game. That's how good this game is.
1. Paper Mario - NOSTALGIA BIAS! But every single second of this game...even the bad parts of it like the lack of action commands early on, I love. Especially the soundtrack.

4.) Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (DS)- Most people consider this game to be the worst of all the Mario & Luigi games. I, for one, love it. In my opinion, traveling through time to stop an alien race from destroying the Mushroom Kingdom is a lot cooler than exploring Bowser's guts or battling a race of bean people. Don't get me wrong, Bowser's Inside Story and Superstar Saga are great games, but not great enough to be in my top 10. I also think PiT had the best soundtrack.
5.) Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)- Like its predecessor, the game has outstanding graphics and gameplay. The only reason it isn't higher up in my top 10 list is that it's too similar to the original with even less of a story line. It did add some cool new features, like Yoshi, and had a slightly better soundtrack.
6.) Mario Kart 7 (3DS)- It seems like each installment of the Mario Kart series is better than the last. Mario Kart 7 is no acception. The game adds several new features to the racing games everyone's come to know and love. Among these are the glider, which allows you to fly high through the sky, the ability to race underwater, and being able to switch into first-person and steer by tilting the 3DS. There are also new characters and better online functionalities.
7.) Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)- Now that I think about it, this game probably deserves a higher slot on my Top 10 list. Pretty much the game's only flaw is the multiplayer. ScareScraper is fun and all, but it gets pretty old pretty fast. In the story mode, you explore all kinds of unique mansions and encounter various ghosts. It even has a fairly deep story line.
8.) Super Mario 64 (N64)- This was the first Mario 3D platformer and to this day is still considered a masterpiece. The gameplay mechanics were really original. This game brings back so many memories.
9.) New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)- Out of all of the New Super Mario Bros. games, this one is arguably my favorite. I really had a hard time choosing between this and New Super Mario Bros. 2. The multiplayer co-op is great, and I can't wait for the New Super Luigi DLC.
10.) Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)- This SNES game includes Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3, all with enhanced graphics and sound. It also includes Super Mario World in its original form. I couldn't bear to list these classic masterpieces seperately on the list, so I chose the game that contained them all. If I had to choose, Super Mario World would be my favorite, only slightly above Super Mario Bros. 3.
Well, that concludes my Top 10 favorite Mario games. Thanks for reading!
[Editor's Note: I have made a few modifications to this part of my Top 10 List. For one thing, I replaced Donkey Kong Country Returns with Mario Kart 7, as MetallicDonkey and Fusion 14 pointed out it didn't really qualify as a Mario title. I also added the name of the console/handheld each game was originally released on in parenthesis.]

You REALLY screwed up by putting DKCR and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on here. First of all, DKCR is a DK game. It is a completely separate franchise. Secondly, Luigi's Mansion is a LUIGI game. I do believe theres even an article on NL that talks about how the devs didn't want any nostalgia or ties to Mario in the production of the game. After all, this was about LUIGI, not Mario.

Yeah, I probably should've left Donkey Kong Country Returns off the list. As for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, I still consider it a Mario game. He might not be playable, but he is in it. All of the characters in the game that aren't new enemies are characters from the Super Mario franchise. Therefore, I still say it's a Mario game.
