@Snatcher pretty much just because the rating say TV MA dosen’t mean the writing is. In fact I’d argue that despite having a Y 7 rating Mystery incorporated is more mature because it constructs elaborate jokes like say a teenager building a trap and has character arc. Unlike Velma which derives it’s humor from gross out jokes, bad pop culture references and the gang acting out of character. Some people were always going to be racist about the new cast but they legitimately suck no dog whistle they just suck the show is bad and it would have been abysmal with or without its “diversity”. And like the further you look into it’s diversity the more weirdly offensive things you find in it. Like shaggy being black so he can smoke weed and Velma the lesbian being weird in the showers. It’s just abysmal I would rater stick with MI over this garbage
Edit I forgot the funnest one. Dapanes parents are poor lesbians and she has to sell drugs to survive. This show’s offensiveness is leveling up by the minute
I legit couldnt believe they made the high stoner character black, like wow, I don’t think they did it on purpose, but oh my god I just couldn’t believe, it felt really stereotypical, Like I just can’t believe it, and I’m glad you said something because daaaaaang.
But my goodness, the show just screams why? And look at rotten tomatoes, the show is getting smacked, as it should, I haven’t even watched any video reviews, but boy have I seen so many. Also your right, show would have suck regardless of the race lmao.
This was one of those series that holds a nostalgic quality for me because it used to be on Adult Swim in the early 00's when I started watching the block, but it seemed to be one of those shows they aired so often that I kinda got bored with it eventually.
That being, it's been over a decade since I gave it a watch (especially one where I was really paying attention) so I decided to plop down for the Blu-Ray release (Like I've been doing for a lot of anime I grew up with like Evangelion, InuYasha, Outlaw Star, etc.), and it absolutely blew me away.
It's thematically a very beautiful show, and maybe there was a bit of nostalgia amplifying things, but the episodes that delved into Spike & Faye's back stories often had me in tears (don't think anything hit me as hard as when Ed left the group though), but that said I had forgotten just how fun the show could be as well (Heavy Metal Queen, Toys in the Attic, Cowboy Funk, & Pirrou le Fou are just some of the most fun, & sometimes creepy episodes).
Still has a cool sense of style as well, at times still being very anime (like the cool ship designs & space battles), while at other times being unlike any other anime at all (it feels very western throughout, in a good way).

@Snatcher I hope it was just a coincidence but I find it hard to believe professionals trying to make a “woke” show could make such a stupid oversight. Either it is an oversight and these writers are significantly less PC then they are painting themselves or they dis this intentionally to start some sort of controversy. Either way it’s hard to believe these creators saw thier minority characters as anything other than some sort of excuse to start online arguments. They aren’t here because the creators are trying to be diverse or have good intentions but made a mistake or some misguided attempt to not be racist they just wanted to start fights. I mean fred the only white main character isn’t any better I love all the jokes about his small organ and I love that they are making this joke about a canonically 15 year old. This is a large portion of the show
This show managed to upset everyone. It’s not being review bombed. Review bombing means to lower the score of an otherwise okay or good piece of media. There is no good score to lower. Conservatives hate it liberals hate it, scooby doo fans hate it, adult animation fans hate it. Everyone hates that piece of garbage. It isn’t like the last of us 2 where people have legitimate reasons to enjoy the game or hate it. Velma is just doo doo
I’m baaack! Reading this, the show just sounds gross, in every form, just why do the things you do with this show? Why, just why? How did it get green lit, how did it not get canceled along side all the other stuff discovery canceled, they thought batgirl was for our own good but they kept Velma, please.

Have any of you guys watched “dirk gentlys holistic detective agency”? It’s based on a Douglas adams novel (think hitchhikers guide to the galaxy) but it got cancelled after the second season which disappoints me greatly. Because it is one of the best shows I have ever seen and it’s on Hulu if any of you want to watch it (subtle hint).

Absolutely it is really funny and clever there were many times where I had thought I figured it out and then it pulls out a wild card. It’s one of those shows where it throws so many ideas at a wall and goes through with all of them. It starts out like a generic mystery show but quickly goes off the rails. I cannot recommend it enough.
