I've been wondering what people consider to be some of the most surprisingly valuable games they own?
I was looking on CEX's website (big UK second-hand game retailer) and the EU edition of Senran Kagura 2 on 3DS is currently being sold for £145 (~$197)!!! I never would have guessed that it would be worth this much when I bought it!
Of course collector's editions usually hold decent value (my Wii U copy of Project Zero / Fatal Frame says hi), but what other games were you surprised to see go up in value?
I have a copy of The Dark Spire for the DS with everything and the soundtrack cd. Apparently that’s somewhat valuable?
I also have a “boxed copy” of Flipper, the DSiWare game. (it’s actually just a DS game box with a letter inside). I’m not sure if that holds any actual value, but I like to think it’s very unique.
Pokemon XD is valued at £155 on CeX. Blimey. That could possibly make it the single most valuable game I own. A couple of years back I remember it being closer to £50 and I thought that was excessive...keep in mind it was around £40 when it first came out! (and I don't often hear people talking about it)
Another that comes to mind is Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64. I no longer own it, but I ended up selling it for ~£90 back in 2016...after it had become more widely available through Rare Replay.
I had loads of old PS2 and Gamecube games a few years back, and decided to sell the whole lot of those.
To my shock, some of them were worth a lot. I seem to remember one of the Jade Cocoon games on PS2 being quite valuable. And Skies of Arcadia on Gamecube was worth a decent amount.
I think either the Fire Emblem Fates special edition (the one that has all 3 paths on one cart), or Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on the Gamecube. I'd have to go through my collection and check though, I know quite a few Gamecube games are very expensive now.
It's not particularly surprising given how Gamecube is the only Nintendo system (except Virtual Boy) whose games Nintendo haven't readily made available after the system's lifespan was over but stuff like Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD are very expensive nowadays.
I don't really have anything that valuable, but I laughed a few years back when Mario RPG was released on the Wii Virtual Console. I sold my physical copy on Amazon for $50 and then bought the Wii version for $8. Pretty tidy profit.
Most of the valuable games I still own aren't that surprising. Niche arcade stuff like Gigawing 2 and Powerstone 2 tends to appreciate quite a bit. But one I didn't expect was Def Jam: Fight for New York. I get that it's the closest thing to No Mercy on a gen 6 system, but it will set you back double or tripple the real No Mercy.
I did own Rule of Rose for PS2. Wasn't that into it though and ended up selling it for about $10. Goes for about $250 these days.

I gave a lot of thought to buying Shantae and the Pirates Curse for a small premium at my local game shop not long after it shipped from Limited Run (price was $45). I didn't really like Half Genie Hero all that much, but a lot of people said PC was better, so I decided to grab one. Now I wish I had bought two, because it goes for $200+ on ebay.
