If by an overhaul, you mean they're going to start begging for money anew, then I'd say it's fair to expect it.

What came into my room this morning? It's the long awaited, hair raising sequel of one of my favorite Mega Man games, none other than Rock Man and Forte: A challenger from the Future for the Wonderswan. Oh, I also got a WS crystal if that means anything. Anyway, I've always wanted to play this authentically (I played it years ago on an emu) since grade school. Maybe it's the obscurity, maybe it's the weird Robot Masters (Aircon Man) but I've always been drawn to own a copy one day. And the day is now!!!

I've always known that this was a subpar game, and the novelty of the obscurity will rub off in sometime, but when I first saw this game back on the early 2000's, I was mystified because I didn't know much about it when I already played all the MM classic games(up to Bass). This was before I got acquainted with emu's mind you. I've always seen this as the game I was never meant to play because of it's obscurity and region, as if Fate held me back. And now that I own this, I feel like a part of my Mega Man fanatic has been completed.

I did not just get this game to play it for the experience, but to complete the metaphor (literal and figurative) of having fate in your own hands. For my friends, we are the masters of our own fate.

Sorry for the ramble, I'm off to play some Megaman Wonderswan action.

I've never played them but I am confused on why the GB Megaman games were so lackluster. I mean, they did a better job making Gameboy Zelda games than Gameboy Megaman games, how does that even happen?

Kinda. It's definitely a solid entry in the series, but I'd choose 2, 3, or 9 over it anyday.

So what Battle Network games have you guys completed 100%? I mean getting all the emblems or stars at the title screen which unlocks the omega form final boss. I have completed 100% :

Battle Network 1
Battle Network 4 Red Sun
Battle Network 5 Team Colonel
Battle Network 6 Gregar

Sure, it's easily the best of the 5 GB mega man games and doesn't remix the previous NES entries and instead gives us a fresh new experience, but it's forgettable soundtrack(outside of maybe 3 songs) and default Black & White visuals(I know, this isn't exactly a fair complete due to the GB's monochrome pea soup visuals) suck the life and energy out of the experience. Level design is pretty decent, but doesn't exactly come to the technical genius of lets say 3, 9 or 2. I'll admit I had a more enjoyable experience with the first 4 Stardroids than the 2nd 4.

I'd say it's still a little better than 5 & 6, but not by much. Also, I'm baffled that the controls are still a slower side in comparison to something like Mega man 3.....It's the 5th entry in the portable series and it still hasn't gotten the zippity speed of meg man right....And it's also not as challenging as Mega Man 1,2,3 or 4 either, again more in line with NES-MM5 with just a 'pinch' of more challenge.

I dont know I enjoyed Mega Man V alot. Maybe cause I waited 20 freakin years to play this game. As far as music goes yeah I will give you that Wavey its not as memorable as some of the NES ones. Graphics though I can't knock them on that one cause as you said Gameboy had only the pea soup coloring, however they did release this game to take advantage of the GBC I think it was (either that or it was the Super Gameboy I dont feel like looking it up now ) and I have seen that version on some LPs on Youtube and the coloring does make a big difference.

Still I think it is unfair to compare a GB game to an NES one as during that time handhelds were not in the same ball park as home consoles technology wise. I mean nowadays you can compare a 3DS game to a Wii U game (like MHU3 or SSB which amazes me how far handhelds have come) but back then not so much.

So to answer your question does Mega Man V gets too good of a rap? No not really. When you compare them to the other Gameboy Mega Man games, I can agree with the good rap it gets. If you compare it to the NES well you are comparing apples to oranges.

I'd say MMV is easily on my top 5 Classic games behind MM&B, MM9 and MM3. I don't know about you but I felt like the game had a larger scale with the likes of the stardroids and the final boss who isn't another Wily teleporting battle. I'd say the slowdown in the controls hold it back from being perfect but the level design is fun enough for me to look past it. The music gets the job done for the most part with only a couple of standout tunes but yeah, when compared to the other soundtracks of the series MMV is a bit weak. Also, I don't think this game gets enough attention, mostly due to the fact it was a GB release but I'm happy it's easily accessible with the likes of the eshop.

On a different topic, I just got myself a SNES copy of Mega Man X2 and after playing X3 I can tell that the stage designers knew what they were doing in this game. I didn't think much of X2 when I played it on the MMX Collection, but I've come to appreciate it. MMX3 is harder yes but I really like the level design of X2 better and how the secrets are kept. It just felt like X3 wanted to throw a lot to the player like the ride armors, pink enhancements and Zero but all felt like an afterthought. As for the music, hands down, X2 is better though it's not saying much since X3's soundtrack is lackluster. Sure, X3 had some great tracks like Gravity Beetle but the rest were forgettable or worse, outright dull like Blizzard Buffalo. Overall, X2 is the better game IMO and it comes almost up to par to the likes of X1 and X4.

Mega Man's 27th anniversary! To celebrate Nintendo slashed 50% GB and NES Megaman's. Luckily, the remaining classic games I haven't played, 5, 6, and 7 are on sale! I'm gonna try to get all but right now I only have cash for one. 5 looks pretty dull adding nothing new, which is odd even for the NES games. Every one added their own little trademark. So I'm debating between 6 and 7. Any suggestions? Don't care for the too large looking sprites going off screenshots and what I've heard but I've heard it get plenty of praise too. Leaning towards 6 arm but I don't know..

And let's not forget Zero also makes his eShop debute! I know it's Mega Man's franchise but Zero really gets under appreciated among fans. The Zero series is hands down one of the greatest video game series possibly ever. I certainly have never played another series like it. (Funnily enough the only thing that comes closest to me is the x series.) The first one is definitely the weakest of the series, but only because it's rough around the edge as the first in the series. Every sequel fixes the problems with it and create an incredible game.

Pretty sad that Nintendo made a happy birthday post on social media for Mega Man while Capcom hasn't said a word. It's pretty clear Nintendo cares more for the Blue Bomber than its owner does.

Personally, Mega Man 5 is my favorite in the Classic series, but I know I'm alone on that. Mega Man 6 is pretty good and adds the new Rush forms, but if you're looking for something fresh then 7 is the way to go. I'm not a huge fan of 7, but it's not bad by any means.

@Retro_on_theGo: I am not a big fan of 5 6 or 7, IMO those are the weakest of the classic series. Still if I had to choose one I would probably go with 6. 5 was ok but honestly didn't feel to offer anything new at least six had the new Rush suits. 5 also has some of the most mundane over used enemies in the game. The levels didn't seem to have any unique enemies to them I mean how many levels had those robot chicken makers in them? 5 just felt like it was a rushed game.

I just got 6 on my 3DS today. It's the first Mega Man game I've ever played and it is really difficult. I read that I should go Flame, Blizzard, Plant, Tomahawk, Yamato, Knight, Centaur, and Wind in that order but I still can't make much progress. Some of the screens seem impossible. Any tips?

6 is one of the easier games in the classic series, so it's a good choice to start with. Remember that all the bosses have patterns, and you can collect E-tanks to completely restore your health (I would suggest using them only when you're in a tight situation). The charge shot is a good option for defeating enemies quickly, and it will also help against bosses if you don't already have the weapon they're weak to.

If you're going after Flame Man first, then definitely watch out for the pits of fire in that stage because they're instant death. The biggest challenge with the boss itself is avoiding the pillars of fire he creates, but it shouldn't be too hard with a little practice.

If you're having trouble getting started, Wind Man is also a good robot master to take on first. Also, the sooner you take out Plant Man, the sooner you get the Jet Upgrade, which can help out immensely in levels.

Happy 27th Mega Man, I would like you guys to know that there is another Mega Man fan game out now, Mega Man Eternal. I did some of the artwork here but it's mostly promotional art. Anyway if you're in for some more Classic action, look no further than this... also MM Unlimited, MM Rockforce, Rokko Chan and the Day in the Limelight games(where you play as the robot masters). I'd also say MM Revolution but that game was a mixed bag for me.

Thanks a lot, I had no idea this game was coming out! I just downloaded it, so I'll have to take it for a spin in a little bit.

I never liked 8. The graphics actually felt lack luster to me considering Capcom had the Playstation to work with at that point. Mega Man himself looked odd. It may be better than I'm giving it credit but it doesn't look to special.

Speaking of which, what would you guys say is the weakest entry? Of the classic series I've played so far I'd say 4. I don't hate it, its pleasant I liked it, but it didn't feel much better than the previous 3 and I disliked the charge shot. It felt harder than the other three too and not necessarily in a good way. But I hadn't played any Mega Mans in a while when I tried that game out so maybe it was me.

I don't see the hate for 6 honestly. It brought very fun power ups in the rush adapter and it doesn't look too bad from what I've seen. I still need to play 5, 6, and 7 though so I can't really say.
