@TheJGG 100% agree with you. I had to leave for a bit partially because of the toxicity of newer users, and now if someone tries to be a jerk to me, I either tell them how inappropriate their behavior is, or just make them look dumb with a joke.
But yeah, it's getting more and more cringeworthy in the comments.
@HotGoomba I mean I was a knew user once and I would say I kinda acted like a ass, But man the new user's take that to a whole knew level, Unlike them I cleaned my act up in a week, and the only reason I acted the way I did was bc twitter made me think that everyone needs to act like a A hole on the internet.

I never understood people making a big deal about 'taking a break from the forums,' or leaving because someone makes them mad. Only the mods and admins are obliged to maintain a persistent presence on this website, so, when someone wants to take a break, they should just take a break! As for the latter issue, it's what the Ignore function exists for. I'll happily use it when I think it'll improve my forum-going experience. After all, it's not like me not seeing someone's comments makes their forum experience worse off.
Thankfully, I'm usually pretty slow to anger, so the Ignore button doesn't get a ton of use.
I'll definitely alert people when I'm physically unable to read replies, though, as used to happen on an annual basis for a week or two before the virus trashed our vacation plans.
@ThanosReXXX More then likely it is plastic. When restaurants take pictures of their food for advertisements and even the menu it's all plastic so it looks better and they can get the perfect shot. That's why your burger never quite looks the same as the one in the menu.
@Snatcher I know NL is going to deny this but I seriously think it's all a numbers game with the higher ups. A website is successful due to traffic, and that all they really care about in the end. Sadly if they were to ban the jerks they would be the most vocal and more them likely spread how Nintendolife is an aweful sight and don't go there crap like that. Then their numbers would drop and such. I honestly believe in quality over quantity but sadly that's not the game for a successful forum site.

What I'm going to say might sound harsh to some. But people love the attention to the point they'll say anything to receive it. Posting some massive post on here explaining why they're leaving is no different.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
@Snatcher It’s primarily because of the Switch Pro rumours, yeah. For all we know this could be a massive hoax corroborated by several people, and that everyone who legitimately subscribed to these rumours is setting themselves up for many a tantrum.
Example; the persistent 2020 Direct/Pikmin/Paper Mario/Mario Collection rumours. I was very surprised when I saw the Mario Direct, because I didn’t follow the rumours too much. Leaks have the potential to take away a feeling of joy and replace it with anger.
@HotGoomba If I were you I’d strongly recommend sticking to forums, here at least. Of course it’s your choice at the end of the day but no doubt you’re of this opinion as well. Nice strategy that, maybe I should try it!
@Ralizah Well this is a thread made specifically for the purpose of announcing departure, so while I agree that just taking a break without fanfare is useful, this thread undermines this point. Same with @MsJubilee.
@Vortexeo@GrailUK Well we all know he is a very cool guy, so if he sees the appreciation he will hopefully have a smile on his face.
@Tasuki Not plastic per se, but possibly inedible cheese, so to speak. They also make all the ingredients by hand, so the bread is cut by hand, for maximum size and shape, the beef patty isn't cooked/baked in a machine either, and all the items on the burger are stacked somewhat like a staircase, so bottom piece of the bun/bread the farthest to the front, then the veggies and the burger slightly more to the back, and so on.
It's then photographed at a certain angle and sometimes even after being covered with a layer of hair spray, for that nice shiny glow, and that's how you get the perfect burger picture. I saw a documentary about a photographer who, among others, worked for McDonald's, and those were some of the tricks he used.
Anyway, veering WAY too far off topic, so we better get back to what this thread is really about...

Ok, I’m out for the rest of the summer. The firestorm over the past few days has throughly exhausted me. I wish y’all well.

@Rambler Funnily something just came up that makes your story so relatable to me. I commented on a prominent women’s racing series that the reigning champion’s good enough for Formula One. Guess what happened next. A three paragraph post from some idiot explaining why she’s terrible. Way to go, loser.
Doesn’t mean I won’t comment but come on. Some people just need to shut it.
While I would not encourage anyone to stay somewhere they felt uncomfortable, if everyone runs for the backdoor when the wolves appear, the wolves take an easy win.
I was just about to post a comment regarding Dezzy's departure (which has since been locked; good thing I copied it), so I will be leaving my response here...
@Dezzy: You have hit the nail on the head and echoed many of my sentiments with respect to the paradigm shift that has enveloped the site over the last year and a half (but especially more so in recent months). The recent practice of removing comments entirely (which has become an all too common sight in articles that are deliberately published to arouse impassioned responses) has increasingly made the site feel like an echo chamber where only one perspective is permissible, and the "wrong" perspectives are open to petty insults, outright removal, and/or condemnation of the characters of others merely based on unsubstantiated inferences of the writer's intent (as several here have done towards yourself in that very thread). The fact that some comments are removed with vague and often disingenuous reasons such as "offensive" and "unconstructive", whilst exposing the user also has an air of antagonistic intent about it, as leaving the user's identity exposed could stigmatise them in the estimation of other users.
As somebody who would tick off quite a few of the hip "diversity" (ugh) boxes these days, I have never felt more excluded and alienated in so-called "developed" and "inclusive" society. While I am happy to be forthright about my age, sex, ethnicity, nationality, religious beliefs etc., all of these traits, perhaps excluding the latter, are merely circumstantial, and have little to no bearing on the manner in which I deal with other people, nor do I impose my life choices/beliefs upon others, and yet many of us are expected to adopt worldviews to which we do not subscribe. How can one be expected to embody (to borrow a term) "authenticity" if we are to forfeit our values and principles at the fickle behest of the zeitgeist? For example, what some describe as "empowering", I would describe as degrading. What some describe as "compassion", I would describe as cruel. What some describe as "progressive", I would describe as regressive. But God forbid that we should be able to have a critical discussion like the adults that I thought we all were rather than resorting to insulting/silencing those who dare dissent from one's myopic worldview.
I believe I have been "ignored" by my share of people on this site, likely due to biased interpretations of the odd comment, while I have always kept an open mind, and I have not ignored any user on this site, even those who I very, very strongly disagree with (of which there are now many), because despite my shortcomings and stances on things, I can at least keep an open mind and hear out the perspectives of others (and I am genuinely interested in hearing out other people's perspectives), but rarely is such courtesy reciprocated in a civil and respectful fashion, nor do I feel that this is a place where such discussions can be had anymore, and I see little point in weighing in on such conversations as many of my longer and more considered comments have been removed on a whim, merely because I haven't offered my unwavering servility to another's sentiment.
Whatever happened to not discussing sex, politics, or religion in polite company? It seems that these unwritten rules of society have been thrown out the window so long as certain political stances, religion, and "straight white men" can be ridiculed without restraint (and I especially agree with the last comment left by @BloodNinja in Dezzy's thread in that regard). As Dezzy has said, I do not subscribe to the idea that identifying oneself on the basis of complexion or ethnicity is "progressive" in the least. I thought that we were finally maturing as a society to the extent that we could interact with one another without placing undue emphasis on what a person looks like, but it seems that superficial diversity is all the rage nowadays, while diversity in ideas and perspectives are met with intolerance and derision.
I too am finding myself feeling increasingly alienated and I will most likely withdraw from this site sooner or later, which is a shame too, because, as Dezzy had pointed out, it provided for a refreshing change of pace in its political and ideological neutrality.
I doubt that I will be missed around here, but I have (mostly) enjoyed discussing our shared hobby with the users of this site, and to avoid the risk of derailing this thread (as I would have preferred to keep it in Dezzy's thread), I will not comment further on the topics/issues raised above, but I would be happy to chat with anybody who wishes to keep in touch in private. Thanks.
