Seriously, mad props to the guys who organized this. They managed to turn the complete joke that was the Spike VGA's into what felt more like a legit awards show.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Well, that was definitely a good show, and I feel like the rewards were all worthy of winning, even if I wasn't that familiar with a lot of them. Still disappointed Tropical Freeze wasn't even nominated for best soundtrack though...
That new Legend of Zelda doh. And I've never even played or cared much about the series, but this one just looks... Wow...
Loved the icon award to Ken and Roberta Williams. They deserve it.
Did not like how most of the awards were unceremonious. "It's been an amazing year for you guys and we're looking forward to you next game. Oh by the way, you won this award, we're not going to mention any of the nominees or anything, but congrats. Bye."
Giving stage time to bad comedians and bloody Trending Youtuber of the Year and not to presenting Developer of the Year was outright baffling.
Glad that Valiant Hearts got recognition.
Where was Microsoft for this whole thing? No reps from them, and all they showed was a trailers for a couple games that came out two months ago.
Bayonetta 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition were the two games I was pulling for GOTY, so I'm satisfied there.
Glad that Shadows of Mordor didn't win anything important. Man, Tolkein would have hated that game. Still irksome that it won Best Action/Adventure over Bayonetta 2 though.
The look on Shawn Layden's face when he announced a Nintendo-exclusive winner for Indie of the Year was priceless.
This was the first game awards show I watched, and I liked it, but I think it could be improved.
I liked:
Great variety in terms of showcasing/celebrating all facets of gaming.
The guy who played classic game music with that lazor light display was absolutely awesome.
Some great reveals (King's Quest, Adrift, Mario Maker, Zelda U, No Man's Sky, MGSV, Godzilla, & S.T.E.A.M. looked especially good, IMO).
Awesome that Trey Parker won for best performance, and Nintendo did really well too.
I Disliked:
I would have preferred it, had the event started one or two hours earlier (though this didn't effect the quality of the show).
I felt like they maybe had too much extras? They were cool & all, but the actual awards of this "awards show" were kinda sidelined. Not everything they mentioned they did on stage (just, "Oh, BTW, so & so won this"), & there were a lot of awards they never even got around to mentioning (Hello, "Family" game, "Music/Score", "Remake", "Action/Adventure", where are you?)
Overall it was pretty fun though. Next awards show for me is the Oscars.

Music/Score was passingly mentioned. When he had the 3 Bungie guys up, Geoff asked them about what's coming next year, where they gave vague responses, and then Geoff said "Oh, by the way, Destiny won Best Music and Best Online Experience OK thank you bye."
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Ah, ok. I probably just missed it because I was watching the YouTube stream, and it froze/buffered a lot for the first half of the show.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
They really turned it around. Dropping Spike was the best thing and they were able to turn it into an actual awards show. Obviously it's the first year where they've done it with a decent structure, so it'll need some work, but I was happy with it. Really loved Nintendo's involvement in it.
What I Liked
-The whole segment for Ken and Roberta Williams was classy. Narrative in the gaming industry owes a lot to Sierra and it was good to see them being honoured
-Good reveals
-Tastefully done
-Good hosting by Geoff
-I'm satisfied with Dragon Age winning GOTY. It deserves it just as much as Bayo 2. I would have been happy with either one.
What I Didn't Like
-Too much talking and not enough showing or handing out awards (they only handed out a few awards on camera and then they'd candidly mention "Oh BTW you won this award too")
-Pulling people out of the audience to give awards
-A couple of trivial award categories
-A little too long for what we got awards wise
Overall, it was great. I'm happy with it. Adrift looks neat. I'm excited for the Witcher 3 and No Man's Sky. I'm actually interested in Battlefield: Hardline.
Nintendo really stole the show though. They pretty much came out and fired a bunch of shots effectively. "So we're going to open the show. Here's Koji Kondo, and here's Mario Marker. Cool Right? Okay, so here's Project STEAM. It's new. There's a big reveal later in the show. It's Zelda gameplay. And we're still on course for a 2015 release. And Star Fox will be out next year before Zelda. Oh and Majora's Mask 3D is coming out, in case you forgot. Here's Imagine Dragons playing with Koji Kondo. Have a good night."
Which has to do what with the quality of the game or how good the nemesis system is? Demon Souls is a great game but it was in bargin bins pretty quickly as well.
