I just noticed this thread. I started watching Doctor Who on PBS when I was about 10 or 11. I've been a fan ever since, even reading novels and listening to Big Finish audios until the series returned.

I really enjoyed season 5 of the new series. Even though some episodes were better than others, Matt Smith has been absolutely fantastic as the Doctor. For some reason my daughters really got into Doctor Who this season, really for the first time since Christopher Eccleston. While David Tennant was a good Doctor, Matt is THE Doctor in a way I haven't seen since Tom Baker.

As for the Daleks, I'm glad that they now can just show up without a complicated explanation, even if they do look a little silly. RTD's approach really put them into a corner where there always had to be some reason that this Dalek or these Daleks even existed. Moffat was wise to get them out of that situation, even if Mark Gatiss might not have been the best choice of writer for the episode.

If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.

Well said. Smith brings a very "classic Doctor" portrayal, which i think is certainly intentional on the part of Moffat.

Nice. I just thought you were pulling some cockney rhyming-slang and calling him a flake.
Actually, i've seen his name mispelled so much, and thought "Ecclescake" was a funny way around it =)

I won't even start on Peter "Davidson"...

I liked the Doctor Who series, though I got into it pretty late. It's definitely fun and interesting, and it had a spin-off that my family thoroughly enjoyed, though I'm blanking on the name.

The Sarah Jane Adventures?
Torchwood? (Although, that's not really a 'family' show!)

Also: series 6. I'm more confused having watched the first episode than I was before I saw it! The Silence are pretty cool and creepy though.

matt smith's doctor is everything the doctor is supposed to be: quirky, impatient, strong, menacing, lovable, alien...all wrapped up in one gangly package. i have watched all the incarnations since tom baker and it's good to see the 'old' doctor back. eccleston was very good, david tennant was very good; but i prefer this doctor due to the 'going back to the roots of it', so to speak.

I LOVE Doctor Who!!!! I watched the first 5 seasons in like a week and a half! I think that the first episode of season 6 was really good and I can't wait for the next part! The 10th Doctor is my favorite, however, Matt Smith is starting to grow on me _

Gotta love Doctor Who! Old series is 10 times better than the new series however. The new series is nowhere near as scary and I have even yawned while watching it. But the old series is sit on the edge of your pants scariness.

Weeping Angels, my favourite Villians ever (although they are not really evil when you think about it). Also, the Trickster Brigade (awesome).

Sad to hear Sarah Jane died.

Main Final Fantasy & Quest/Shinobi Team fan...but I do like many SEGA games and a few Nintendo games.

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.

Part one of the season/series premiere was pretty awesome! Non-stop pacing, the hour was up before i knew it. Curious to see how it all play out. And The Doctor is awesome with : "I wear Stetsons now. Stetsons are cool." and then later when he asks for a fez when he's working in the White House.

David Tennant is Doctor Who, IMHO. He's just all around awesome. His crazy facial expressions never fail to crack me up.

Has anyone seen the second doctor? He was pretty awesome too. The plots, direction and scriptwriting were hilariously awful, but his character is fun to watch.

I know right! I've seen a few of his episodes but I've had a hard time trying to find more. And I want more.

I was re-introduced to Doctor Who last year when the new Matt Smith series was advertised in North America via Wired Magazine although I'd first learned of the show via Doctor Who series 3. Still, I never really watched Doctor Who earnestly until Series 5. I like the Eleventh Doctor of S5 more than any of the previous ones.

The new Doctor Who reminded me of the other great BBC productions like Merlin and Sherlock and it actually feels like a feature film rather than a television show.

It is my hope is that either PBS will start airing Doctor Who again or that SyFy Channel will pick up Doctor Who Series 5 because BBC America is something that not all of us have. Quite frankly we (our family) doesn't have BBC America T_T.

Therefore I can only watch Doctor Who via BBC America provided we are at a friends home or in a hotel or something else. Normally, I check SyFy Channel and PBS sites often just to see if they've added Doctor Who to their listings seeing as PBS airs Sherlock and SyFy airs Merlin it would seem logical for either to pick up the good time traveling Doctor sooner or later.

I have seen The Touchwood show but I simply didn't like it. The Sarah Jane Adventures I have not yet seen. I just didn't realize that Touchwood was what you guys were speaking about. I get Touchwood and Deadwood confused for some reason.

Did anyone see 'The Beast Below' as a reference to T. Pratchett's Discworld Aturin Turtle?

What is the connection between the Byzantium and the Weeping Angels? Are the Weeping Angels the fallen angels from Heaven that fell with Satan or are they an alien race that took on the apperance of Angels similar to how those fish aliens took on the apprarance of humans and vampires?
