@Pastellioli

Are you okay these days? Just a spot of concern checking if you're stressed or something.

@Pastellioli You're good, hope you are well. My reply is late too, but I've still had my notification. Just so you know, I might be slow in replying in this thread.

Aha gotcha, that does sound like it's intuitive with how your character shoots automatically. Kinda like how in Super Mario Run, Mario runs on his own while you'd control the jumping. I remember PaRappa the Rapper, I think one of my uncles had it for the PlayStation way back in the day. I've not played it, but I did see a playthrough of it on YouTube a little while back. I remember that PaRappa was a pretty big mascot for the PlayStation in the late 90s alongside Crash and Spyro.

Gotcha I see, I think I'm pretty OK with controlling the pencil pressure... though I think part of it might have to do with how I've been drawing pictures since I was little. I guess it came naturally. But I do know it does ultimately take practice, like everything else in life. Though I'd often have erased pencil marks when I draw, lol.

Yes, people would take turns while playing on Nintendo NY's big screen. When I was there, Mario Kart 8 was playable on that. That was the Wii U original, since I visited Nintendo NY before the Switch came out.

Yeah, RPGs are not my forte. I mentioned before that they get long and complex. I've played a good amount of the Xenoblade games, but I've gotten stuck in them a number of times. I got close to finishing Xenoblade 2, but I ultimately dropped it because of a brutally difficult boss fight. I did not know what exactly to equip, either. I might come back to the first game, but I think I would have to enable easy mode. Just because I'm not good at RPGs and I don't want to get frustrated. Ah yeah, that reminds me. I finished Mario & Luigi: Brothership last year, and while I did like it at first, I thought that game was a bit of a disappointment. Mainly because of how it just dragged on and on, so I got burnt out on it like halfway through.

I'll give Perfect Dark a shot sometime. Thanks for the heads up on the controls. I did have to change them on Luigi's Mansion a bit, particularly the up and down controls for the Poltergust 3000 and flashlight.

@ShieldHero I think I saw one of your other posts, how are you liking the PS4? My first non-Nintendo console was a Sony one too, except that was a PS2 and I enjoyed it. Though I kind of wish I had a Dreamcast back in the day before its early discontinuation... sorry, Sega.

@D-Star92 Hello! Yes, the controls in Acecraft are simple and they do remind me a bit of Super Mario Run’s controls now that you mentioned it. It did take me a while to play PaRappa, but I found the first game pretty fun but also extremely hilarious and charming, but I did suck at playing it a bit and struggled a lot in the last level. I’ll have to get back to playing the games because I was playing the Lammy spin-off last month and got onto the 5th level (which I think is 1-2 levels away from finishing the game) but dropped it, because I’ve been playing my Vocaloid rhythm game haha.

Yeah, was trying to draw last night but I realized my pencil pressure is pretty bad lol, gonna have to practice that at some point, especially since hard pencil pressure can damage good paper. I have drawn for a while but I’ve always have had poor control over pencil pressure, but maybe it’s because of the lead size or how I always covered the rough sketch with markers and pencils and didn’t have to worry too much about the visibility of the graphite. I already feel like choosing a different art style using lots of color and outlines, so the pencil lines can’t be visible when I outline and color it.

The original version of Mario Kart? That was a decade ago, time flies! I haven’t visited Nintendo NY but i can’t imagine how fun it is buying merchandise and playing games there with others.

I usually prefer shorter games that I can complete in maybe a few days or ones that don’t have completion times because I also don’t have time for longer games, realistically it would take me months to complete a long one probably. Ah, I see, so the Xenoblade games are fun but sometimes a bit long and difficult to play? Didn’t know since I haven’t played the series before. I’m also not good at knowing what to use or equip in some games, kind of reminds me of when I used to play Genshin Impact, not an RPG but it’s a big game and I didn’t know what characters or weapons to use until I realized later that I needed a bunch of other stronger characters and items from the gacha, which was annoying, because I only got one character out of it. I’m surprised you didn’t like Brothership a lot, it seemed like something you’d like! But I have heard people who play RPGs say that it sometimes feels like they drag on.

To add to my gacha annoyances, I kind of can’t stand mobile games that require you to use the gacha mechanics a ton or buy microtransactions to get items or characters so you can better at the game instead of being on equal footing with paying players as a no paying player. I used to play a HTF mobile game called Deadeye Derby that was pretty fun and addictive for a few months, but I got increasingly ticked off at how the game kept matching me up with players who finished the game and got all the slingshot and vehicle upgrades (the stronger ones likely through microtransactions), and I found it super stupid how the game makes you pay a high amount of diamonds for the remaining 2-3 vehicle upgrades, as it requires either a lot of grinding or paying money to get it. The game does not have a level system or matchmaking system that pairs you with players that have similar upgrades as you or are on the same level, so I’d get paired up with players stronger than me and it would be unfun. Dropped it at the third boss because it is almost near impossible to beat him with my upgrades, and after seeing footage of the final boss rapidly shooting with a slingshot and having a bunch of gimmicks…yeah, I don’t think I’ll play the game again for a while.

You’re welcome, I really enjoyed PD last year, but I do know how weird the controls could be on the original N64 controls. I remember playing the Zero prequel and the game controls were already set to the original PD controls, so it felt weird to control and I had to change to the modern control scheme.

@Pastellioli Ahh alright.

Well, I did have a whole reply for ya.

To me, NL is something I check daily, so I don't fall too far behind.

But I game often too. Finishing Sonic Frontiers lately, alongside Bravely Default. Actually finally finished OG Hollow Knight.

A random thought that I had, has anyone used watercolor before? I've been thinking of trying it out sometime, I like how watercolor pictures look and I'm thinking of getting a set for it.

@Pastellioli That game does look challenging for me as well, from the gameplay I've seen of it. I think the closest game I played to it was Rhythm Heaven for the Wii and 3DS. It's been ages since I last played them though.

Yeah definitely, the paper would just rip where you're drawing if you draw too hard. Having a different art style isn't a bad idea I think. We all draw differently after all.

Time indeed does fly. And now a decade later, we have Mario Kart World! If you enjoy Nintendo's games, Nintendo NY is definitely worth visiting, likewise with the newly-opened San Francisco one. Wouldn't mind visiting the SF one as well, if I do get a chance to visit the area of course. I'd like to visit Super Nintendo World one day too, though that would depend on how much I can handle its rides. I unfortunately had a traumatic experience from going on a roller coaster when I was little... and to this day, I'm still scared of them.

Yeah, as I get older, I've been preferring games that are shorter as well, or at least games that have fairly good pacing. I do like the exploration and battles of the Xenoblade games, though yeah, they can be real tough at points. Yeah, I wanted to like Brothership, but I just didn't like it as much as I wanted to... and I'm a huge Mario fan. Most of the Mario games that I've played, I do love or at least like.

Ah really... that sounds like it's one of those pay-to-win games. I can't stand when they do stuff like that. It's just so greedy. I also don't like when they make games that you'd buy, then finding out that it has microtransactions. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a good example of that. I think it's a good game for sure, but putting microtransactions into the game after launch was such a terrible move. I don't like being negative, but it's just something I can't be positive about. What a greedy move that they made! All right... I'm gonna have to stop before I have a meltdown.

I'll let you know what I think of Perfect Dark when I do try it out. Does it control similarly to GoldenEye? Because I did play that on Nintendo Classics a while back. I would imagine so since both games were developed by Rare themselves.

@D-Star92 I use watercolor but rarely, here are some results of mine. Not the best but somehow ok I need to practice. To be honest Gouache and Alcohol markers are easier than watercolor

@CaleBoi25 Oh I'm glad to hear you love it! Can it be combined with my drawing pencils? Like if I could do the line drawings, then use watercolor to color my drawings in.

@Zuljaras Nice watercolor pieces, thank you for showing us. Yeah, the little I've tried of watercolor, I did struggle a bit. Thanks for telling me about the easier alternatives, too.

@D-Star92 I usually sketch out the basic framework with a pencil before painting the rest! I haven't tried full mixed-media, though, like colored pencil layering or anything like that. I might just try that out! Oh, and give me a few minutes and I can post some of my work (of I can find the box it got packed in during my move haha)

@D-Star92,

"I think I saw one of your other posts, how are you liking the PS4?"

Took me a while to notice this 🤣, taking a break from the site at the time you posted didn't help. I am enjoying the PS4 quite a lot actually, especially being able to set my own background. I found out a way to use a picture from the system's web browser as my home menu background, so I picked out and edited one. Now I desperately want the Switch 1 / 2 to have a feature like that 🤣. I also like the home menu background music, it's really peaceful (though I already wanted background music for the Switch systems anyway). And I'm enjoying the one game that I've played on the system so far. Ultimately, I love how customizable the menu is. Though my mom doesn't like the computer-like whirring that happens sometimes, especially when the game is running in the background 🤣.

@Nep-Nep-Freak Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I have played on my cousin's PS4 when I was on vacation one time, we've played Marvel vs. Capcom 3 since that was one of the games he had. Being a Mega Man fan, I had to pick Zero, lol. I did try out God of War as well, but I didn't quite get into it. I'd love to at least have themes for the Switch 1/2. I would pick a Mario theme without hesitation, haha.

Me and one of my younger sisters were having a conversation about everyone gathering for together school (I'm homeschooled, by the way). I used the word "assemble" and she shouted "Autobots, assemble!", and I was like "Perhaps you mean 'Avengers, assemble!'. I was laughing like a maniac 🤣.

@D-Star92 Yes, PaRappa was challenging for me since I’m used to playing rhythm games that use tap controls, but it was so rewarding finishing it, though I still have Lammy and the sequel to finish at some point. I only played a demo for that one Rhythm Heaven game on the 3DS, but it was fun! I’m curious about the next game, I’ve been a bit interested in it since a lot of people praise it and say it’s one of the best rhythm games out there.

Yes, I find all art styles appealing, I don’t hate any, just sometimes prefer one over the other. I really feel like a simple art style would fit me best since I don’t really have time to draw anymore.

Oh yeah, Super Nintendo World! I haven’t heard a lot of people talk about it but I always see videos and posts on here talking about it. It looks really big and whimsical, but it’s been a while since I last went to a theme park. I never went on a rollercoaster, but I’m sorry about that experience you had when you were younger. I never really like rides that are from big heights, also because I hear about accidents and mishaps that happen with rides like that. I can handle rides on the ground and some heights but not rides that are at a such a high height.

I just play mobile games or older games, since those tend to be shorter and can be completed in a few days or hours, it’s why I usually lean toward Rare’s N64 and Xbox 360 games since they don’t take long to complete. I really prefer not playing big games either, plus they eat up a lot of my space on my devices, especially on mobile. Genshin wasn’t bad and I did kind of like it, but I disliked the gacha and this stupid rank or level thing that had be do a bunch of tasks in order to have me progress through the story.

Yeah, you can kind of say Deadeye Derby is sort of pay-to-win because a lot of the stronger upgrades and slingshots require a lot of diamonds that can be quickly achieved by buying them, but the game can still be completed without microtransactions, albeit you’ll be struggling a lot against bosses and opponents. The game is pretty short and the third boss is the second to last, but after fumbling the battle so bad despite the upgrades I have, I don’t feel like playing it for a while. I was considering even purchasing one of the game’s premium characters to make it easy, but I don’t feel like spending money on it at all despite how much I like HTF. Again, it’s still possible to complete the game without buying stuff, but I can’t stand the requirements for upgrades and the matchmaking not pairing me with players that have the same upgrades or are on the same level as me. It’s so annoying getting pitted against players who have full upgrades and use stronger characters, especially Flaky and Nutty, who ABSOLUTELY tick me off whenever I play against them. I have heard of that game, but I never knew they had microtransactions in there at launch and didn’t make most people aware of it? That’s very sneaky…

I never finished GoldenEye, but from what I experienced, PD controls very similarly to it. In fact, PD had almost the same development team and was intentionally developed as a spiritual successor after Rare failed to get the rights to make a sequel to GoldenEye, so there will be similarities to it while you play. I hope you like it!

@Pastellioli Yeah, I do remember they're making a new Rhythm Heaven game for the Switch. I think I want to play more of the other games I have first though, or wait until it goes on sale. On the simple art style, gotcha. Yeah, I do get busy a lot of the time too, lol.

It does look like a cool park for sure. Thanks... I've rode a coaster before and I absolutely hated it. They go really fast, which did take me by surprise when I was little. I'm really sensitive to speed, too. I would get really scared if whatever I'm riding goes too fast. And yeah, I don't like heights, either. I can handle some speed and heights, but anything that's too high and/or too fast, I don't want to go on. I love merry-go-rounds, though... oh my goodness, they're so much fun! They go at a reasonable speed, too. Not too fast, but fast enough to make things exciting. I love train rides, too. They're fun and relaxing! I basically like any ride that is along the lines of the last two rides I mentioned. I did get a bit sappy there, lol. I'm a kid at heart... and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I think SNW has that Yoshi ride... if I recall correctly, that one wouldn't be too bad for me.

These days, I mostly play on my Switch or Switch 2. I tend to gravitate towards stuff like platformers, and even stuff like Tetris. If I'm feeling indecisive on what I want to play, that's an easy option for me right there, lol. Been playing Tetris DX on the Switch's Game Boy app. Recently I finished Luigi's Mansion, that game is pretty short, which is perfectly fine of course... I still liked it.

Ouch. That game does sound like a pain to play with how it's designed. CTR: Nitro-Fueled didn't have microtransactions at launch actually, they were added later on. I remember that game got great reviews right when it came out... then Activision just could not help themselves. It was sneaky for sure. It's a very good game, I have it for the Switch, but those post-launch microtransactions... ugh. At least they're easy to ignore for me so I can play and unlock stuff the old-fashioned way.

Thanks! I hope so too. I'm not an expert in shooters but I'll see how I fare. I keep putting it off though, been playing other games on my Switch 2.
