@jump Yeah I thought about that too. She is doing a residency so I may change my mind next month. But my budget is strapped as is as I impulse bought two concerts already. I am so close to getting out of credit card debt so I am trying not to go too stupid with spending.
You are not kidding. I just spent 500 on Madonna and I have ok seats. And 700 on Sarah McLachlan (which sucks because I saw her front row about 8 years ago for 150) but it does include backstage passes. My one regret is I never got a pic of her at the last show. So I am pretty much going for that.
But ticket prices are killing my willingness to see a performer more than once. One of my favorite taiko groups is coming back to my area but I have seen them twice already even though it’s usually a great experience to geek out with other taikoka (I play taiko as a serious amateur). I just can’t justify the purchase. Yeah ticketmaster can fall down a well.
@Eel I’m looking for stuff to do this summer that is within a 2 hour plane ride as I am saving my vacation for a cruise to Greece this year. So I may look at vegas again for a day trip.

@Ryu_Niiyama ooh that sounds lovely, I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise… (and visiting Europe in general)
Closest thing would be the ferry we sometimes take to get to mainland. It’s a single night’s worth of travel and there’s absolutely nothing to do or look at, but I do love how the buoyancy feels.
@Eel yeah I did a cruise last year (Caribbean) to see if I would like it. And it was great (plus lesbian cruise so boat full of lesbians. Saw way more boobies for free than I expected too lmao. Apparently if you isolate lesbians and there is no chance of being around males clothing becomes very optional ☺️) anyway, Greece is one of my bucket list countries so I couldn’t pass up 10 days.
But since I am an American and work life balance doesn’t exist I have to work myself with no time off until then, so everything I do this year is on the weekend or at night like a concert. Plus I start my decade of sacrifice next year (basically for the next 10 years my spending is severely restricted to allow for investments and saving. And pushing my career and hopefully not going insane in grad school). (It’s not as bad as it sounds. I have an apartment full of games, books and music and a home gym so technically I should be fine with the restrictions)
Never say never. Cruises come in all price points.

@Ryu_Niiyama WTF! I'm going to British Summer Time a big festival held at Hyde Park in London to see Stevie Nick, Kyle is playing the same fest but on a different day and tixs only cost me £90/$115. Ignoring festivals the most I've ever paid to see someone was AC/DC this summer but that is only £150/$190 for the golden circle mosh pit tixs right in front of the stage and I thought that was too much to spend on a gig but it will probably be my last chance to see them. Luckily most of the gigs I want to go to are small sweaty rock gigs in clubs rather than megastars.
If I was you I'd consider going to see someone overseas and turning it into a mini holiday, by the sounds of it works out the same price. I've combined a gig into a mini-holiday a few times and you can see some really cool stages rather than a boring arena.
Dreamland in Margate, a seaside amusement park in UK where the stage is part of the rollercoaster.
Eden Project, a botanical biodome garden. I saw Nine Inch Nails there which is probably one of my favourite ever gigs as I was in this beautiful garden with a rainbow in the sky whilst listening to uber edge lord Trent Reznor sing about hating himself.
And Arena Of Nîmes in France an old Roman amphitheatre, is so amazing that it still operate as a working venue rather than being ancient rubble.
@jump you are not wrong. If I had known Madonna was going to invite Kylie to her Vegas show I would have just eaten the flight and did a two birds/one stone deal lol. But yeah it’s killing me because I have listened to both of them most of my life (Madonna longer as she had more US hits. I didn’t really get to know Kylie beyond a few 80’s songs until Fever came out when I was a teenager (“Can’t get you out of my head” almost outed me to my parents lmao)) and I have been thinking about my musical influences lately and if I have seen the major ones.
I haven’t been to Europe since I was a teen so it would be a fun vacation. I will have to think about it. I have been lucky that most of the folks I wanna see before they or I die have been in the US (my only regrets are Linkin Park, Celine Dion and MJJ). But I want to see more concerts as music is so important to me. Sigh. Decisions decisions.

@Eel Aww you do a lot more than that. But I say with anything have a plan. You can travel on a budget. Either driving or flying and you speak two widely used languages so you should be able to be mostly comfortable when traveling. Make a travel savings fund even if it’s years away or you don’t know where you wanna go.
I basically do like one or two big events/travel a year. Otherwise I am chained to my desk lol or playing video games (or music). I have been able to travel at a no money level (14), terrible jobs (my 20’s) to decent salary but can’t go too crazy (30’s). So it can be done at any price point. If you don’t like to travel alone get a buddy or look for groups that you trust (my undergrad university has an alumni travel program for instance)…that being said I do most things alone (I spend more on making travel safer since different cultures treat women differently and my safety is paramount but that’s about it). Don’t wait for friends in order to live your life. Also start small. Day trips are lovely.

I’ve seen Linkin Park, they were okay but it was kinda ruined as half way through the show they started playing the music from their side project which killed the mood of the crowd. I was meant to see Linkin Park when they were touring with Jay Z (the two had done an album together) and my mate was a HUGE Linkin Park fan and invited me but I had a wedding to go to the same day.
I’m quite lucky as I’ve seen a lot of those mega legacy bands like The Sex Pistols (not in the 70s, they had a brief reunion in the late 00s), Black Sabbath, The Cure, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Lou Reed, The Specials, Run DMC, Fleetwood Mac, The Prodigy (with Keith Flint), AC/DC, My Bloody Valentine, Mary J Blige, The White Stripes, Slayer, The Stone Roses, Alice Cooper, Blur, Rage Against The Machine etc. There are a few I’d LOVE to see like Nirvana, Bob Marley, The Clash, Jimi Hendrix etc but they had already died before I was a teen so it’s only Led Zeppelin (they did an one off show in 2010s which sold out in a sec) and David Bowie* I could have seen but didn’t sadly.
*Tell a lie No Doubt too, they haven't toured the UK in 20 years and not played together in 10 years and I'd love to see them. They have recently announced they are doing an one off show at Coachella Festival, I hated Coachella when I went before (you're not allowed to drink whilst watching the acts?!) but I'm hoping they announce a world tour if it goes well.
@jump Yep, the King of Pop but he has always has “can’t pay the rent this month prices” but it would have been a nice bookend since I have seen Prince.
I’ve been fortunate in the concert arena now that I think about it. But my mom loves music and passed that on so yeah. Earth Wind and Fire, Rols Royce, RHCP, Foo Fighters, A Perfect Circle, Third Eye Blind, Foundations of Wayne, Sarah McLachlan (solo and at the Lilith Fair which included a boat load of women artists), Toad the Wet Sprocket, counting crows, Barenaked Ladies, REM, Live, Goo Goo Dolls, Doughtry, NSYNC, Mandy Moore, the cranberries, Perfume and that’s just what I can name off the top of my head and not including symphonies or comedy shows or DJs or Taiko Groups (I have been fortunate to meet some of the greats I have a Pair of Odaiko Bacchi signed by Kenny Endo and have taken classes under him (just google him he is amazing. And super nice)). Ok looking at this list I have been more busy than I thought. I think I gotta stop telling people I’m boring lol.
I wanted to see LP because their music got me through a dark time of my life although I can’t listen to their old songs as much now. This is gonna be morbid but Chester left the mortal stage like a few weeks before I was supposed to go see LP.
There is something about that energy with live music. Seeing them enjoying their music and feeding off the audience hype enjoying the experience. Making concert buddies in the line even if you never seen them again. Music reminds me of humanity’s potential for good. Even if the industry in general is horrible.
I don’t usually do big music festivals (I have been to maybe 3 total) because hilariously enough crowds make me uncomfortable but I love concerts. As an introvert I am like a person with a peanut allergy that can’t give up PB&J lol. I wore tragic kingdom out as a kid but aside from a few other singles I don’t listen to much no doubt. I felt Gwen Stefani dwelled on her ex boyfriend too much in a lot of her songs. But I hope you go see them!
