The Zelda game and watch is what I expected and more! Can’t wait to get one. It’s like, the Mario one was good, but this one includes better games.

That Direct was amazing, genuinely wasn't expecting a new Crus'n game, and Advance Wars to come back, let alone Life is Strange making an appearance. Never played the original on GBA. Monkey Ball and Shin Megami Tensei! So excited! Add those to the PC games I mentioned earlier.

Edit: Also, the Zelda Game and Watch. Don't know why I had a feeling they were making that after the Super Mario Bros. one last year.

@TheJGG Because of your previous avatar, you came to mind as soon as I saw Life is Strange getting revealed.

Well, Nintendo Direct just now was..... Mediocre. 😕
But i'm glad i was late watching as i almost overslept while waiting and after i rewinded again and skipped quickly, i saw nothing caught my interest. Well, Mario Party Superstars was good but not really a must to get game for me.
But at least, smaller games from Wholesome Indie Direct were really great than the games i saw from Nintendo Direct.
Once again, smaller games beat the bigger games. 😛
Who need AAA games if smaller games have some potential and quality.
I'm glad i trust my instinct to getting along with smaller / obscure games. 😏
The bigger game I have hype right now is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5.
Cartoonish shooter games for PS5 with 4K and 60fps Ahoy....!! 😋

@Sunsy It did as well. That the Remaster and 3 are available on Switch makes me very.... very excited! My thoughts now are to get the remaster for Switch and 3 on PS5... but man this is incredible news!

I thought the E3 Direct was much better than the last one! Kinda had a slow start (not the biggest Tekken guy personally) but there are some games that I'm personally excited for (like Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania). I liked the footage they've shown for BotW 2 as well - all that made my day.

@TheJGG Indeed. Also, I'm a bit curious about the series now since watching the Square-Enix presentation the other day. Maybe one I'll keep an eye on.

I can count on one hand the stuff I'm planning to get that was shown here. Life is Strange (either Remaster or 3), Skyward Sword HD, the Age of Calamity DLC, Metroid: Dread, maybe Dangonropa... after the first three it gets harder.

Amazing Direct though, I'm still super happy.

@Sunsy For me it was recommended by a friend a few months ago, and it was decent timing because I saw the reveal for the LiS 3 game, and the remaster. So that's a long term game I'd like to get. Especially 3, it looks amazing.

There is one presentation again, from Bandai Namco.
I have no expectation but hopefully at least there is 1 interesting game from them.

So there’s a new game every day in October, got it.

@Anti-Matter - There are plenty of other sheep for Reese, but Cyrus really should have had a conversation with her about how he’s in love with someone else before their wedding day, though it wouldn’t be as fun and scandalous that way. Do you ever listen to game OSTs? I think you would really like the River City Girls soundtrack.

@ThanosReXXX - Good to know you’re a happy new owner then. As for the surprises, I’d say the vast majority of that Direct was a surprise to me. My only expectations were to see some BOTW2 and be surprised, and they both happened. That seemed like an absolute barrage of games, something for everyone. I’m glad it wasn’t about new hardware and that we didn’t do a 25 minute deep dive analyzing Jin’s moveset, haha! I watched with my kids, and my son wants the WarioWare game, and my daughter wants Shin Megami Tensai V.

So. I was right. All those so-called leaks. Everyone who was just so sure that we were days away from a Switch Pro announcement. It was a load of click bait. All those people who told me I was just being a downer, and I was being insulting toward Bloomberg and Eurogamer? Well, here we are.

I don't want to be mean or really even to rub it in. But I think my point has been made. People have been throwing crap at the wall since 2018 claiming an upgraded Switch was right around the corner. There's been one "leak" after another for years now. And this last round of "leaks" people were all but calling them facts. Everyone was talking about it, even retailers were falling for the trap.

I think 1 of 4 things happened:

1. Eurogamer and Bloomberg were looking at a bunch of circumstantial evidence and came to the conclusions they reported, calling them leaks to they can sound more credible. Especially Bloomberg with its paywall BS.

2. Eurogamer and Bloomberg were lied to. They were fooled by people who managed to fake leaks and those news outlets fell for it and led a whole bunch of other people to fall for it too, and now some jerks are laughing their rear ends off somewhere.

3. Eurogamer and Bloomberg themselves just lied. Found some circumstantial evidence to back it up, and put out those articles for profit. They generated a lot of traction and probably made both outlets a nice penny or two.

4. The leaks were indeed correct! But Nintendo was unhappy with them being leaked and completely changed their plans. This is the least likely of the 4, but I don't discount it.

I still do think another Switch hardware revision is very very likely. But like I have been saying since 2018, I'm not buying any of these leaks or rumors. And we have had so many at this point, one of them will be "right". Someone will have called it. But unless they have an authentic document, or some other hard proof - I'm not believing it was more than a lucky wild guess.

My point in the end is this Even if you think it's from a reputable source, don't just believe the leaks unless they have hard evidence to back it up. And it's better to remain skeptical even then.

Anyone can say they talked to insider sources. If that's all the "proof" they have, I don't buy it.

@Eel My first thought was: "Oh, god no. Not ANOTHER half hour of Smash Bros like last year". Far as I'm concerned, it's a niche game and it needs to be buried alright. Other games are far more important, or should be, but Nintendo just doesn't seem to get it.

Any remaining hope I had for something about Metroid Prime 4 was immediately crushed, but I did like the new side scrolling Metroid.

@TheJGG You forgot Advance Wars remastered, Mario Golf Super Rush, Warioware Get it Together, Monkey Ball Banana Mania, Cruis'n Blast, Strange Brigade, Project Zero - Maiden of the Black Water, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, Shin Megami Tensei V, and last but definitely not least: the Zelda anniversary handheld.

Seriously, though, it kinda went like I expected: a slightly above mediocre Direct, with some nice announcements but nothing stellar. I'm glad that we can now finally shut all those idiots up who truly believed that there was going to be a "Switch Pro" announcement. I never believed that, not even for a split second.

On a side note: people should really give the Strange Brigade a closer look. I have it on Xbox One. It's an arcade adventure game set in the 1930's, based on the super-natural. It's basically what you get when you put Indiana Jones in a blender with Wolfenstein, Uncharted then add a healthy dose of that classic movie monsters and villains vibe, and then finish it off with a dash of Left 4 Dead.

It was made by the same brilliant minds that made the Sniper Elite games, and the game oozes fun and entertainment. Here's a couple of videos, to give you a better idea:

@bimmy-lee
Hm, never heard about River City Girls.
Recently I listened to mash-up / 80's remix / Eurobeat remix songs from YouTube.
I have downloaded some of them and I played them on my smartphone.
Right now I'm listening to mash up of Wouldn't Change a Thing by Kylie Minogue with Roar by Katy Perry.
Here is the mash up song. It blended really good.

Oh, I made another Instagram account after last 2 weeks my phone got trouble and have to be rebooted. It cleared almost everything. 😣
I totally forgot the password of my previous account so I made another one and I have added your Instagram account.

@bimmy-lee Not my question, but I thought I'd mention that I love listening to game music. I enjoy listening to Mario Kart 8's OST, for example.

Hi Guys, sorry for not being able to talk for so long. I was busy with finishing up school (and working), and I’m still working, so I most likely won’t be able to talk as much like I have previously, but hopefully, I’ll be able to be on more often than I have been, but we’ll see.

I hope that everyone is doing well and is able to do some fun stuff throughout the summer.
Also, welcome back @Anti-Matter. I hope you’re doing well also.

Anyways, there’s a question that I’ve wanted to ask for a while, and there was an article written about the company within the last month, which made me think about it again. It’s about Illumination.

  • Can someone please tell me why there seems to be so much disdain (or hate) towards Illumination? 🤔

I know this seems like a random time to ask about it (especially with the E3 Direct today), but the article written about the Illumination founder joining the Nintendo Board of Directors made me think about my question again, and like I mentioned earlier, I haven’t had a lot of time to post on Nintendo Life.

I know that people tend to not like non-Disney animation studios as much, but the attitude towards Illumination seems kind of strong to me.

I think that Illumination’s movies are good. I mean, they’re not Pixar or Disney quality, but they're still good.
TBH, I’m a little surprised that people haven’t been more rough on Sony Pictures Animation (and Paramount Animation to an extinct) as SPA made one of the worst animated movies in the last decade (from what I’ve heard that is), and PA is still finding its footing with its movies and hasn’t had the best track record because of it. If you think about Illumination and Paramount Animation are both relatively new and only have a 4-year gap between them, yet PA seems to get a lot more slack than Illumination.

I’m sorry if this has been talked about before, and if it was, that I (somehow) missed it.

EDIT: Sorry for such a long post, this is just something that's been on my mind for a while, and I haven't been able to ask you guys about it.

@SM3DASislit Welcome back, and I'm doing well. Personally I don't hate Illumination, I actually liked the Despicable Me movies, Secret Life of Pets, and their version of The Grinch is one of my favorite adaptations of the story.

I love Disney movies, and some of my favorite animated movies aren't even by them. Smurfs: The Lost Village is by Sony (I love it's faithful to the source material), and one of my favorite movie series is Trolls by DreamWorks. I love Trolls and Trolls World Tour, and the latter is one of my favorite movies of last year. I even watch the Trolls cartoons on Netflix and Hulu.

I love animated movies, personally, I don't have hate for Illumination since the few movies I've seen from them I've liked.

I mentioned yesterday I got my vaccine: and I got pretty much all the side effects and symptoms. After the Direct finished I went to sleep, but couldn’t; I kept waking up every ten minutes in a cold sweat, plus shivering. I also had a mild headache and my body temperature’s all over the place…

Well I asked for it and got it. @Vortexeo I took it for granted and paid the price…

Good to see you @SM3DASislit! Personally I more or less disagree in general with @Sunsy, but I can absolutely respect their view, and in some instances, they produced a good movie. The following’s just my opinion, but I feel like there’s only been one good film in their entire history; the first Despicable Me. You saw it with the Rabbids taking over the series that created them, the Minions did the same thing to that series, even becoming the company mascot.

The thing I dislike the most about Illumination is their business model. Simply put they want to make as much money as they can whilst spending the least amount possible. This has without fail meant that the quality of their films has decreased significantly, in favour of unfunny jokes, poor writing and unorginality. Example; Secret Life of Pets is more or less the exact same as Toy Story, but with household pets. Two male characters on an adventure beyond their comfort zone; the villain’s a cute but menacing… thing, they have a fight, split up, then save each other at the end.

That they’re making the Super Mario film is making me cautious on what to expect from it, but Nintendo’s increased involvement with the project; like constant consultation between Miyamoto and the producer, can help make this film better than what I expect. But an animation studio like Disney is, I feel, far better at making animated movies with true voice talent, superb animation, outstanding music and a decent story. For licensing reasons this would be harder to pull off but in my heart I felt this way.

Hope that helps you gain perspective, with either me or anyone else that answers too. Thanks for the question!
