@ThanosReXXX@Yosheel 10 GameCube games fit on a 16GB flash card, that's €10 at most. And that's retailer price, we're not buying in bulk. These mini systems are 90% profit for Nintendo anyway.
@ThanosReXXX
Um...
Speaking about Component cable for Wii, everytime i play Gamecube games on my Wii, it Always displayed on 480i instead of 480p despite i had set my Wii to accept 480p. It made the graphics looked blurrier on my Sharp Aquos LED TV 32'.
My Component cable for Wii has Golden plate too, with a switch to change from Component to AV Video.
What have you lot been smoking to think that putting 20 Gamecube games on a mini would be unviable. 128gb of flash is only going to cost £30 or so at most. Could see that retailing at £99 with one controller easy.
I've been smoking nothing, just using rational, deductive reasoning. What did the NES Mini cost? What did the SNES Mini cost? And how many games were on each? The SNES Mini was already $79.99/£69.99 at retail, some shops even selling it for a bit more, due to pre-order fees.
If you seriously think, that a GameCube Mini, with a FAR more advanced controller, that is STILL being sold today at a retail price of $29.99/£29.99, and 10 GameCube games on it, is going to cost just £99, then I think you might have to seriously reconsider, because going by the rates of the other consoles, it would more than likely cost a lot more than you apparently seem to think.
The price of the GameCube controller alone, would already make the GameCube Mini 30 pounds more expensive than the SNES Mini, let alone the games and all the rest that's needed...
First off, the whole process is far more labor-intensive than with the smaller ROMs for the NES and the SNES Mini, and the licensing involved with certain games, even the copyrights on their own IP's, will make each and every game considerably more expensive, maybe somewhere between 5 to 10 times as much per game, in comparison with SNES games.
Second, the emulator in both previous Minis was built from the ground up, and here as well, things would get far more complicated, because you're going from 2D sprites to full-on 3D, so that might take quite a bit of work to get it running, and running in a way that makes it good enough to play GameCube games like the original hardware.
And besides the emulator, there is of course also the added cost of a more advanced, and FAR more powerful motherboard and SoC, which would of course be needed to run all these games, AND the accompanying menu and its features. And of course, much larger storage. And all of these perhaps individually not too steep costs, would still add up to an amount that is several ten's of dollars/pounds more than the SNES Mini, there's just no escaping that fact.
No, this would most definitely NOT be that cheap, and considering all the facts, I just don't see it being viable. But like I said in my initial comment, let's just wait and see if we're even going to get another Mini first, and if that would for example be an N64, then we might be able to extrapolate from that, by some margin, because even between the N64 and the GameCube, there's still quite a HUGE gap to be bridged, where it concerns power and emulation...
@Octane I guess that answer is for you as well, more or less...
@Link-Hero
I tried AV2HDMI to play Gamecube games on my Wii, it could display on my TV with output 1080p, but the result was Too bright color, a little bit washed out for certain games but less jagginess. My Harvest Moon Magical Melody Gamecube looked almost Perfect on my Wii with AV2HDMI.
On second thought, if I theoretically had a choice between a GameCube Mini (including Eternal Darkness) or a finished Robotech: Crystal Dreams.... I'd sell everyone out in a heartbeat to get Robotech. Don't think of it as overvaluing Robotech, think of it as undervaluing all of you.
You are a good person. The overwhelming greatness that is Robotech should be fully and wholly embraced by all, and those that don't should have heavy things fall on them.
Which reminds me, i really need to get around to finally playing through Battlecry, which has been in my neglected backlog for far too long ...
Ok so evidently silly me bought an ancient capture card, and to get it working I had to install an older version of the game capture hd software... And sillier me didn't consider that uploading a half hour video with the best settings I could get on my laptop would take literally a whole day.
I think there's something going on with the audio... Edit: oh yeah, although for some reason my internet decided to be terrible right now and I can't watch my own video, the sound is definitely and absolutely out of sync. That sucks.
I apologize for the terrible gameplay during the first level too. The second half of the video is a bit better in that department.
Edit 2: ok, updating step by step worked to get the card functional with the latest version of the program, and the shortened version of the video I produced with it seems to lack the audio delay. So I'll upload it again, it's almost half the size so I hope it'll upload overnight. The internet is still being terrible so I won't hold my breath...
@ThanosReXXX Well, I definitely agree that it's more expensive to me. But a GameCube controller doesn't cost €30 to manufacture. And the only reason it's priced that high right now is probably due to price fixing, simply because they don't want the product to come off as ''cheap''. And remember that at one point they sold GameCubes for €99.
Is it more expensive? Yes. Is it still possible within a €100 range? Yes. The profit margin for Nintendo would be less than the NES and SNES, but like I said, those are 90% profit anyway.
@Octane But see, that's where you're wrong. You seem to miss the whole point I was trying to make about current market: the Switch is still going to be here in at least two years, and provided that we're going to get an N64 Mini some time this year, and theoretically, a GameCube Mini the year thereafter, then this GameCube controller for the Switch will also still be on the market, and perhaps it will be for a slightly lower price, but knowing Nintendo, probably not.
The manufacturing price doesn't matter. They can sell it for the price they have set on it, and for now, that's $29.99. And they can't go and say, or even justify "well, here's this Smash Bros GameCube controller for Switch, that costs you $29.99, but we're also going to sell pretty much the exact same controller, minus the Smash Bros logo, together with a GameCube Classic Mini that has 10 or more games on it, for $99... "
But let's take a lenient approach and say they WILL sell it for half the current price, or even for only $10, in combination with the GameCube Mini, then there's STILL the matter of the needed hardware to be more advanced, and as such automatically more expensive, AND we're not talking about Nintendo selling a $99 GameCube here with no games or just one game, but with a whole range of games.
It just doesn't compare, and as I already explained earlier, all these small additional amounts together, will make up for quite a bit more than $100.

The other thing to consider is market fracture. It doesn’t really matter for NES/SNES, but having a compilation system that has more mainstream graphics and games could put off some from buying a more recent DS or even Switch, if they still haven’t gotten one. Remember, when it comes to mass market appeal for these compilation systems, we aren’t the only target audience.
Besides, I kinda don’t want another thing to hook up and divide my time. It’s already a struggle to bounce between Switch and Wii U, and all I have to do is press the input button on my remote. I’m lazy.
@ReaderRagfish I’ll trade you! It’s rained everyday for the past 15. We get a reprieve tomorrow, but then it’s another 14. Better than the alternative, it could be fire.

Any ideas on how I should hawk my old (Wii) Guitar Hero controller? Apparently most stores don't take them anymore, and I don't really want to deal with online selling....I've already tried the garage sale route, so maybe that's worth another try....
It's fully functional, but is covered in stickers.

@Tyranexx One last marathon Guitar Hero session where you play every game you have and play all your favorite songs. Then, when you're done, smash the controller like a (blank)ing rockstar and set it on fire. Burn the discs too for good measure. It's not like you'll be able to play them without the controller anyway. Have fun!
These pretzels are making me thirsty

@Fooligan: I did have a marathon session with all four of my Guitar Hero titles a few months ago when I was first testing them out in anticipation of selling them. They're fun games, but I've decided that I can live without them in my game library. I've tried garage sales, but most people don't seem to be in the market for those games these days.
I've been crunching some numbers and may hold onto one of the older titles to try and hawk it with the guitar controller and trade in the rest at Gamestop. I may just take cash (their cash values match those of their trade-in values until the 12th), but I'm also contemplating preordering the 3DS Luigi's Mansion port that's supposedly still coming this year. I'll take ~$9 off of a Nintendo game that likely won't see lower prices for a long while.
My breakfast today.
My Mom cooked Soto Banjar (Banjar style of Yellow Chicken Soup) this morning. There are a lot of stuffs on the top: Vermicelli, Boiked egg, Boiked potato, Perkedel, Sliced of fresh Cabbage.
Guitar Hero guitars aren't worth much, and there aren't many people who are looking to buy one
...At this point, I might just find a modified use for it if I'm unable to sell it. Maybe I will keep one of the games if the rockstar itch ever hits again. XD
(Funnily enough, I did find a random article earlier about a grandmother allegedly using one to beat up some robbers in Indiana out of self-defense....)
