@D-Star92 Have fun with the new board game.

Indeed, it's nice to put on the Christmas lights in my bedroom for a cold night. Those kind of videos are always the best.

When I was a kid, I heard of Final Fantasy because of commercials, but never played it until I rented Crystal Chronicles on GameCube. During the PS era, I thought Final Fantasy was a PS only series, so I was surprised when I saw some Final Fantasy games on NES in a magazine one day. That's cool, I wasn't into skateboarding (always afraid of hurting myself), but my brother was and that's how I played them. Demo discs! I remember getting one with a Dreamcast magazine, and a few issues of PC Gamer back then. I can't remember any of the other PlayStation discs outside the one that came with the console. At least it gave you something new to play. I wouldn't know because I never played Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks. The only handheld Zeldas I played was Link's Awakening DX, and A Link To The Past/Four Swords. I do have one of the Oracle games on my 3DS, can't remember which one.

You're welcome. Cosmo was one of those platformers that was more family friendly, I'm surprised they used the words Disney World without being sued, but it is in the game's story.

Yeah, it's only one Mega Man game I've played. IIRC I think I downloaded Mega Man 2 one day when I wanted to play something I never played before.

I love Sonic CD, I first played it with the old Windows 95 release on PC. Then later on with the GameCube release on Gems Collection and the 2012 PC/Mobile versions. It got to a point one winter where I played it so much, I cleared the game multiple times with the time stones. Always found using time travel and getting the time stones, and going back in time to make those good future made the game last longer.

@Mariotag Will try to, now that Ai Ai is being added, or already added, might be fun to check out. I just have the base game, but going to enjoy the free stuff that gets added to it.

@ChameleonBros Those are good choices for sure, I would say Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite 3D Sonic game, as well. I played the heck out of it as a kid, and I still have my childhood copy of the GameCube version. Would love to see it on Nintendo Classics. Plus, as someone who did not have any Sega consoles back in the 90s (all the systems we had were from Nintendo), it was cool to see Sonic on a Nintendo console. I do like Sonic Origins as well for the same reasons you've mentioned, especially how you can retry special stages.

@Sunsy Thanks! I played a round already, and it was a lot of fun. I like how strategic the gameplay can get, with how you'd claim the train routes. Would love to play it more often. They made those expansions for Ticket to Ride as well, such as Europe.

They are the best for sure. There's unfortunately a lot of negative stuff on YouTube, so I'm glad these ambience videos exist. I love relaxing to the sounds of the train, and the aforementioned oldies. I remember you like the sounds of the plane, as well.

I never played Crystal Chronicles, but I did hear of it on Nintendo Power long ago. I did play Final Fantasy Mystic Quest when I was a kid though, I remember thinking it played a lot like Pokemon, except without the capturing mechanic. I played a bit of Final Fantasy VI (it was originally localized as III in the US) on the SNES Classic, too. I think my brother wanted Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 at the time, and I was curious about it, so that's how I got to try it out. And yeah, I didn't do skateboarding in real life either, I also didn't want to get myself hurt.

Demo discs are fun to have/play for sure, and I also remember all those GameCube demos in store kiosks. I remember trying out the one for Super Monkey Ball 2, and we ended up getting the game soon after. Those multiplayer party games were awesome. There was a demo disc that came with the PS1? Just asking since I didn't have a PS1 in its heyday. No worries on the Zelda games.

I guess Disney was OK with it or something, lol. Been pretty curious about DOS games in general, since I've grown up with Windows 95 back in the day.

That's cool, I remember doing a similar thing to Castlevania on the NES, when I became curious about the series. I got Rondo of Blood from the Wii Shop Channel as well... thank goodness I got to play that when I had the chance. Going back to Mega Man, the first one I played was Mega Man 3. I started playing the other games in the series with Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and even Mega Man & Bass on the GBA.

That's how I first played Sonic CD, too! It was a bit disappointing that it wasn't included in Sonic Mega Collection, despite having the intro and ending cutscenes. We got a 3-game pack that had Sonic CD, Sonic & Knuckles Collection, and Sonic R, all for PC. And that was before Sonic Gems Collection was a thing. I got all the Time Stones eventually as well, by doing the special stages.

@D-Star92 That's great, glad you're having fun with the board game.

Indeed, tell me about it. I spotted a video last week on YouTube talking about fake Nintendo fans, pretty much being anyone who criticizes Nintendo. I'm vocal about the price increases and game key cards, but I still like Nintendo games. If I didn't, I don't think I would be here, lol. Or playing SNES a lot within the past month on Switch Online. I even started Wario Land 3 the other day. Nintendo YouTubers haven't been as fun to watch as of lately, I don't have a Switch 2, so I can't get excited for something I can't play. Been awhile, but those plane sounds are so relaxing, as well as RailCowGirl's videos. Also, been watching videos about older games, specifically Classic Game Room's old videos. It's why I got in the mood to play F-Zero again.

Cool, similarly I played one of the GBA Final Fantasy games when a classmate lent the game to me. I totally forgot the SNES Classic Edition had a Final Fantasy game. Cool, my brother was big into skateboarding, so that's why he got the game. Though it boggles my mind why I got the GBC version, lol. I still played it.

I remember kiosks, and I think Nintendo is the only one who still does them. I tried Mario Kart World at my local Target because of it, and I tried Super Mario Wonder as well because of it. If I'm out, I still check out the Switch kiosk to try something new. I have Super Monkey Ball 2, I stumbled across it at GameStop and bought it. Yup, the PS1 came with a demo disc, it had like 12 demos, and hidden videos. I remember playing demos to a puzzle game called Intellegent Cube on it, and Croc.

Maybe. I will say, the world of DOS games are interesting, there's so many different games they tried, even unique ideas. I like a game called Magic Carpet, it's an old EA game, it's a first person shooter, except you're on a magic carpet with strategy base building elements. It's unique.

Yeah, virtual console and even Nintendo Classics are a good way to discover classic games you never played. That's cool, so far Mega Man 2 is the only one I played. I do remember one on Sega Channel I did try, but I don't think I actually played through it.

I got that same pack. I had a copy of Sonic CD as a standalone, then later on I got the pack because of the other two Sonic games. Cool, another way to beat it is to go back to the past and seekout that robot generator and destroy it. It also counts as a good ending, even if you don't get the time stones.

@Sunsy Ah really, that doesn't surprise me... I've had quite a few anti-Nintendo videos show up on YouTube for me. Granted, I don't agree with everything Nintendo has done, but those people on YouTube go way overboard, in my opinion. I don't like strong language and overly angry tones of voices, either, so I probably won't like watching them anyway. And yes, I'm here on Nintendo Life because I love many of Nintendo's games and I can chat with like-minded people about them. There's just something so relaxing about traveling, isn't there? Once it's past the takeoff phase, I do like the sound of the plane as well. Makes for good white noise. I've also been watching some train videos, and that reminds me... this conversation makes me want to put on some train ambience again! I remember Classic Game Room, I used to watch his videos back in the day. I remember he did quite a few Sega Genesis game reviews.

That reminds me, I had a friend from school who had one of the Final Fantasy games on the GBA. I think it was a dual pack of FFI and II? I remember he was huge into RPGs in general. That's still cool, we didn't have any Game Boy versions, just on the PS2.

I tried out Mario Kart World on a kiosk before I got my Switch 2, as well. I got Super Mario Bros. Wonder the day it came out, so I didn't feel the need to play that on a kiosk. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think they have too much playable demos nowadays... I'll have to check one out next time. Oh that's cool, I got Super Monkey Ball 2 around the time it came out. That is cool for sure, sounds like you'd get a little bit of everything right out of the box.

Ah yeah, it does look like there's a lot of unique games that DOS has. I don't think I've heard of Magic Carpet, it does sound like it has elements of the real-time strategy genre.

Yeah absolutely. It's partly why I love Virtual Console and Nintendo Classics. In addition to replaying old favorites, there's all these games I've been wanting to try, but never got around to back in their original run.

Lol, you and me both! We both got that same pack. Though the 3-game bundle was the first time I played the game. I remember that other method to get the good ending, I remember doing that for the first three zones. I think that would require quite a bit of exploration. It is cool that Sega thought of having an alternate way of getting the good ending, honestly, even though it was just for one game if I recall correctly.

@D-Star92 Indeed, for me, it just feels like Nintendo YouTubers just want to talk about the success of the Switch 2 to "stick it to the haters," rather than talk about games. I enjoy learning about games via different videos. Also, clickbait. I want to know what a video is about before I click on it, this way I can know if it's worth my time. Same, I like talking both PC and Nintendo games even if I don't have a Switch 2. I play games on Switch and my other Nintendo systems, and like talking about it and sharing experiences. It is, just relaxing to some travel noise. Even driving sounds are nice too. Yes! Classic Game Room was one YouTube channel I went to a lot years ago, I've been having on his "best of" review compilations, including NES, SNES, PC to name a few. Another gaming channel I like is Retro Bird, he goes into video game topics and talks about it in a fun way.

Nice, I can't remember the one I played that I borrowed from my classmate. It wasn't a two pack.

You're not wrong, there are far less demos than there are now. Sometimes I shake my head at Nintendo when they put demos on the kiosks, but not on the eShop. I think demos on the eShop could help sell more games. I played Princess Peach Showtime because of its demo. It is, it also gave you something extra to play when you only had one game on a console.

Not really, Magic Carpet plays more like a FPS, you shoot spells instead of weapons. Like fire for example. While you're shooting enemies, you're collecting mana (which comes from the enemies) using a balloon from your base, the more mana collected the bigger you make your base. While trying to destroy the other wizard and his base. It gets intense, but it's fun.

Yup, the thing that really appeals to me is trying all the classics I never played. Maybe that's why I like GOG so much, because of all the classic PC games I missed out on, same with Nintendo Classics. I've played a handful of SNES games I never played as a kid.

Then you have to find a Past sign and a place to run nonstop to time travel. It added a bit of an exploration element to Sonic, rather than just speed through the levels, which could still be done.

One game that got my attention for its awesome cover, and made me curious enough to look into would be Mario Party DS! What a fun looking cover full of life. I also would like to own a game with quick, fun mini games to play on the go too. (Don't currently own something like that, actually.) Anyone know if this was a good game back in the day? How about you, @D-Star92? Have played this Party game, and can you tell me if it's any good?

The Hello, Mario! App is available now, at least on the Google Play Store (I couldn't find it on the Switch eShop yet, from what I remember, it was supposed to release tomorrow).

I messed around with it for about 10 minutes, and it was cute as all heck. Not something I think I will play often, but I could see it being a useful cute time waster on vacation, especially if it doesn't need an internet connection (which I'm not sure about).

Edit after a quick test: it works without an internet connection

@Sunsy Ah wow, even as someone who owns and enjoys the Switch 2, that does sound pretty ridiculous to me. Sounds like a nasty argument just waiting to happen, lol. Good old clickbait as well, haha. Me too, I like talking about them in the "what are you currently playing" and "games you recently beat" threads. I'd also mention multiplayer games in the former thread when I get a chance to play them, I've been playing Mario Kart World and Mario Tennis fairly recently. Yeah definitely, and I enjoy traveling in general. It's great for pretending that you're riding a car, plane, train, or boat while you're home, too. That's cool, and I've seen Retro Bird as well, I do like his style and a lot of his videos.

Maybe Nintendo didn't think it was necessary to make demos of their most popular games/franchises available on the eShop? Since those games all sell like hotcakes. I think that would be true, if people like what they've played of the demo... not so much if they don't like it.

Ah gotcha, thanks for explaining that. That's what it originally sounded like in my head.

That reminds me! I played a few SNES games on Nintendo Classics that I never played before, like Sutte Hakkun and Mario's Super Picross. I liked them both, and I even finished the latter.

Yes exactly, first you would find the Past sign, maintain your speed for long enough, then you'd find the generator. It did add that exploration aspect for Sonic games. I wonder if that inspired them to make the Knuckles levels in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2? Since you'd look for pieces of the Master Emerald in those levels.

@PeterTomlan86 I actually have Mario Party DS! It's been a while since I played it, but I think it's a good game for sure. I like the boards, minigames, and even music. I enjoy a good Mario Party game, too... I have quite a few of them.

@Mariotag That's nice, is it almost your birthday? Either way, I hope you have a lovely time.

looks like Hulu still has its Live TV still going on which im surprised they still have it since Disney was supposed to buy out and control everything Hulu related or whatever.

earlier a half hour ago i went to the Hulu website and was curious if its free trial for Live tv was still useable and it is which surprised me.

so im using Hulu and Hulu Live tv from its free trial for the next 5 days.

guess Disney isnt all that powerful as every youtuber claimed for the past few months since late last year.

im watching Grease on the Freeform channel right now anyway. then later ill see whats on CW, Fox and TCM etc

I'm using the DuckDuckGo browser, and I had a tab with the forum thread that had all of the shortcuts for changing the look and size of words. But the finicky controls caused me to accidentally exit it and I can't get it back. I forget the name of that thread, so I can't find it again 🤦‍♂️.

I just need the thread name or link.

@D-Star92 It does, it just makes it feel like people like the Switch 2 doing well, rather than enjoying games on it. I always use the "currently playing" thread when posting about games, and I use the "recently beat" thread for games I complete as well. I like traveling too, though it is limited. I can't drive so I use either Lyft to go to stores (usually making a day out of it to make the most of my trip), or go places with my friend once in a while. It is, the sounds of traveling right from my bedroom. Awesome, you've seen his videos too. Retro Bird's topics and videos are actually fun to watch.

Maybe, though it would be nice to at least try something new without having to go to a kiosk. Will admit, the Princess Peach Showtime demo sold me on the game.

No problem, just a really unique game.

Cool, Sutte Hakkun sparked interest with me for being a Satellaview game originally. Similarly, I've been playing Tuff E Nuff, that one SNES game with the bad box art on Nintendo Classics, honestly it's become one of my favorite fighting games. Would have never guessed it was fighting because of the bad box art, lol. Right now, I started Wario Land 3, having never played a Wario Land game before.

I think the Knuckles levels in Sonic Adventure might be unrelated. Sonic CD was just going back in time and then finding the robot generator, Knuckles had to find master emerald shards. Sonic Adventure did have some past elements mainly with Tikal.

@Sunsy Speaking of which, I've been enjoying the Switch 2's games themselves. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are both really good games. I do like Kirby Air Riders as well, I should play more of its online sometime. I might get Mario Tennis Fever as well - besides the story mode not being great, I did hear it's quite a bit better than Aces. Kind of want to wait for it to go on sale, though.

Yeah same here... I'm hoping I can finish Hollow Knight this year, I've been playing the heck out of it. I upgraded Hollow Knight to the Switch 2 edition, the upgrade did not cost a single penny, which is nice. Gotcha, I was more so talking about going on getaways or vacations, I've had long car trips to a seaside area we'd often go to during summertime. I do enjoy a nice trip to a local walking trail, too. They sure are, he's more wholesome than a lot of other people on YouTube.

Oh nice, I did play the demo before I got that game, and I enjoyed it. Been some time since I played it... I should change that sometime.

Oh that's cool, I do remember seeing that game's box art... it looks kind of weird, just like Mega Man 1's box art, lol. I'm not huge into fighting games because of their difficulty and lack of longevity for me, but I did think Soul Calibur II on GameCube was pretty decent. I played that on Nintendo Classics, and as a Nintendo fan, I had to pick Link, lol. That's cool you're playing Wario Land 3. Recently, I did start Mega Man III (Game Boy) on Nintendo Classics, as well.

Maybe a bad comparison on my end then, I was only focusing on the exploration aspect of the two. I do remember the Tikal scenes. It's been ages since I last played the Sonic Adventure games, though I still have my GameCube copies. The most recent time I played a Sonic game was Sonic Origins, I did play a few of its challenges.

It's snowing again, after most of the snow melted. Anyone else ever get in the mood to play classic games when it snows? I booted up SNES Nintendo Classics this evening because of the snow. Just curious, just me?

@D-Star92 That's what it should be about, enjoying games and playing them. It's cool when something does well, but it shouldn't be the only thing to obsess over to "stick it to the haters." That's just asking for trouble. Console wars are so silly.

Nice, hope you get to finish it. Oh ok, the closest I've had to being away from home was my trips to New York. They were great, especially Trolls x CAMP. Also the hockey game I went to at Madison Square Garden was cool. Indeed, I enjoy his videos and topics on gaming. His recent guilt video hit home, I usually like to game after I do my chores.

Same, I haven't touched Princess Peach Showtime in quite awhile because of other games I ended up playing on both Switch and PC.

Yup, it's the one that yells "HEY PUNK! ARE YOU TUFF E NUFF?" lol. Alrighty, I'm not the best at fighting games too, so I usually play them on easy or easiest. Will admit, I can pull off Kotono's moves in Tuff E Nuff. I think I might have tried Soul Caliber II at one point, maybe a demo of it. I keep forgetting the Game Boy Mega Man games are on Nintendo Classics. I'm rather surprised the NES ones aren't on the NES app.

Don't worry about it. It's been awhile since I've played a Sonic platformer. I think the last time I played one was Sonic Superstars or Sonic 1 on my phone while waiting somewhere. Last time I played any Sonic game was CrossWorlds on Switch.

@Sunsy Since it snowed for you, Merry Christmas! 🎄 It snowed for me as well. I don't quite get that feeling, but I'm sure you're not the only one. I basically just play whatever game(s) I'm currently focusing on. I did play Super Mario Galaxy 2 tonight, I'd consider that a classic.

Exactly. Console wars are so silly for sure, lol. This is coming from someone who likes Nintendo a lot more than PlayStation and Xbox. I just enjoy whatever games I like... no need to get into any pointless arguments.

Thanks! I hope so too. It's a tough game, but it's been making me come back for more. Nice, I've been to New York City as well, I love the Nintendo store they have over there. My last trip saw me fly over to another state to see my aunt, uncle, and cousins. Got to hang out at their place, and we also went to a railroad park where we got to ride the train. It was so much fun! 🚂 That's nice, I basically do the same thing. Once I'm done with my responsibilities I'd typically play games as a way to relax.

Gotcha, I'd like to come back to that game sometime... though I do remember the detective levels being hard for me.

I've done that with Street Fighter II on the SNES, I'd put the difficulty to like two stars, lol. Just because fighting games are so hard to play for me! I can do some special moves in that game, most notably the Hadoken that Ryu and Ken can do. I noticed that too... it might be because Mega Man Legacy Collection is a thing. The first volume has all six NES Mega Man games.

That's cool, I did see you've been playing CrossWorlds and enjoying it. I've been considering playing Sonic Mania again, just for fun. I have a save file where I got all the Chaos Emeralds, I like playing on it to play a favorite zone or two.
