Are you able to plug Switch HDMI directly to soundbar, then soundbar HDMI to TV?
Apparently the Switch uses PCM, which passed through a toslink results in 2.1. Using the bar as an HDMI pass through would allow the PCM to retain 5.1, and make those back channels present.
I think. I couldn’t sleep.

The problem there, even though the audio works and surround sound actually works, is that the video quality becomes really bad. I start seeing the TV flicker a lot and it starts losing connection constantly, especially when I try to play a game.
So it doesn't really work, but at the same time, does...which gives me an idea to hunt down a new adapter. I'm going to see if it's possible for me to connect the Switch's HDMI to the TV and soundbar at the same time.
EDIT: Annoying that it doesn't work right from the start, but at least what I need isn't expensive on Amazon.

It was an impulse buy, and I did buy it because I thought it was a cheap smart tv (that was another model in a nearly identical box), but it works wonderfully anyway.
With this I'll actually be able to use my mini classic consoles, and the docked switch looks way better now.
I may buy a fire stick just to get more use out of it.
I believe it is just 1080p (that's what the tv says when I connect my switch anyway). It's not that big either, 32" (wouldn't fit in my shelf otherwise).
It's already the max resolution my devices can output anyway. And my internet is too bad to stream anything bigger than that.
How much did it cost? This one was about 150 dollars. Knowing my luck, it's probably more than it's worth. But Ehhh.
My previous option was about a fourth the size of this one, with terrible viewing angles, no hdmi port, and the adapter I used didn't include audio. So this is quite neat to me.
@Yosheel Congrats on the upgrade, sounds much better than your old setup. @Octane I grabbed a 65” 4K smart for $650usd a few weeks ago. I had to learn all kinds of new letters and specs!! My next newest t. Is a 50” LED from 6 years so I only needed to know 1080p.
The colors, duke. The colors.

Well as long as you're happy about it Yosh. That's all that matters. Personally, I have my eye on a LG brand, 43 in (maybe I'll go for the 50 in.), 4k with 3 HDMI (getting tired of switching out depending on what system I want to play on) for around $350 when on sale. I'm still looking around for something better though.
These pretzels are making me thirsty

This one has three HDMI ports too, though its odd how two are in the back as usual, but the third one is in the bottom of the unit. Not sure why they didn't just put them all in in the same spot.
