@Cobalt On a bad day, that could have insulted me. Not all Americans are bad, much like not all the French are bad. But there are some first class A-holes to be found in just about every country across the globe.

@Cobalt
Neat to know! But I wanted to point it out for everyone who might not know that tidbit, as obvious as it might seem at first glance.
@ThanosReXXX
It was a mere callback to our little chitchats we had on the topic under the news articles! I didn't want to make assumptions, that's all.
As for the double-sided culture... yeah. We can be summed up as "bigoted and conservative about the good ol' ways as far as there's someone in front of us, but in the dark we're free to be hedonists". Yep, repressed hedonism is a way to put it and let's leave it at that.
The singer I described before, Caparezza, had a song which used Disney characters as metaphors while the topic of the song itself was the "average Italian guy", known as a lowest common denominator around here. One verse in particular is stunning for how to the point it gets: "with us, he (the AIG in question) is a moralish, prude bigot / then he films himself while f#@&%ng in wizard robes".
I don't quite have lots o' loot, because I'm from the Boot.
@AlexSora89 No worries, my friend. Guess we're a bit out of practice with the communication, seeing as we haven't seen much of you on here, of late. Everything alright I hope?
@Cobalt Oops, forgot the smiley. I was just kidding. But the second part is true: negative and/or bad people come in all shapes and sizes, AND nationalities, so in general, I wouldn't want to tie them to any single country.

@ThanosReXXX I'm the opposite of you, a Dutch man living in the US. Do we cancel each other out?
Also, there's a site called Stuff Dutch People Like that I've found entertaining. There's a lot there I recognize and can laugh at. My wife's favorite word (which can be used in just about any sentence): Lekker.
Also, another Dutch song, with of course one of the main things the Dutch are known for:
@Yosheel is mariachi music still played in the streets or is it just something for fancy wedding parties and things like that nowadays?! I still have a few cassette tapes of mariachi music, you know, Duo Gala and stuff like that - which I adore.
Have you ever heard the story of Charles Mingus, the greatest american composer of the 1900s - after his wife broke up with him he drove to Tijuana and was blown away by the street musicians, so much so that he made a whole record to recapture that experience (called Tijuana Moods). Traditional mexican music is wonderful.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Not like in every street corner or something like that though. If you want to hear Mariachis on the street you have to go to specific places in the country.
They're also common in fancy Mexican parties and events.
@ThanosReXXX
Well, more or less. I'm just kind of busy... one exact week ago I've been on the receiving end of a nasty cut on my arm, because on my hotel job while I was throwing away the trash I've had the ever-so-brilliant idea - given I was handling glass - of keeping the hands on the top of the bucket (instead of its bottom) I was pouring over the trash can, and given how glass works, one bottle must have, I dunno, exploded on contact and one shard flew upwards slicing my arm close to (and thankfully only "close to") my wrist. Irony has it that it was my last "test" work day, but at the hospital I've been told to wait for eight days following the cut so I guess I'll go back to work the day after tomorrow instead of last thursday as I was supposed to do.
Other than that, everything's kind of normal. I'm not using my notebook as much as of late, and given I can't seem to be able to log onto NintendoLife on mobile... well, you know.
Back on topic: MUSIC!

Well, if everyone can post more than one song, have fun with this one. Author: Elio E Le Storie Tese ("Elio and the intense stories") - a group of singers inspired by Frank Zappa much like the aforementioned Caparezza. Their style is usually pop, but the fun is in the lyrics they come up with. Or in this case... Song: La canzone mononota ("The single-note song") - exactly what the title implies. Our country is weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeird.

@OfNullAndVoid On this site, we most certainly do.
If my avatar was real, then canceling him out by making him null and void would probably also be a good idea as well, so there's that too...
So, where did you originally come from, and where did you end up in the States? I'm from California, and ended up in Amsterdam. Also lived and worked in Germany for a while, but ultimately, I felt more at home here, and I've stayed here ever since. I might one day come back, though. Depending on a certain idiot ending his current term and never again setting foot in the White House ever again...
@AlexSora89 Ouch! Sounds bad. Well, good thing you survived. Could have hit something else, if you were a little less lucky. Weird thing speaking about being lucky in this case, but still...
Anyway, you're right. Time to put this train back on the track, and talking about hits..... erm...
right... I'd say.... one of the best.... or maybe.... aaarrrggghh... nope, still got nothing.
The thing is that there's simply too much that I like, both in my native language and in Dutch, so it's very hard just to pick one, or even a few. And the Netherlands also has quite a few awesome bands in all kinds of music genres, that only make music in English, and currently, one of "our" very best female solo artists, is about to enter the finals of America's Got Talent, so this little country is also more and more known across the globe.
@Cobalt Well, there you go: REAL peace and agreement between France and the USA, except on a really small scale...
As for young female artists from France, there have been a couple more that I remember:
Vanessa Paradis and Alizee, to name but a few. Both definitely cute and talented women...
(Needless to say, in my opinion, obviously. Feel free to disagree. Or not... )
@ThanosReXXX I'm originally from Leiderdorp and moved to North Carolina. It's been good and bad, I miss being able to bike just about anywhere I'd like on whim, but I love the amount of garden space I get. Of course, that is if the deer wouldn't eat my plants > But that's a problem I'm currently working on (larger fence).
@Cobalt Well, I moved over here when I was 9, and I'm 48 now, so I've seen and heard plenty of European artists from all kinds of countries, including France. Come to think of it, I actually know quite a few French artists, also because in the 70's and 80's, quite a few of them were very popular over here, so I'd simply get to know them by listening to the radio.
