Topic: Reading Accents in RPGs

I'm from the US, and one thing that's always strange to me is when I see local playhouses performing Shakespeare. They deliver their lines in their native accents to maintain authenticity, but then they mention how loyal they are the land of England or Scotland and I wonder how unnatural this performance would seem to an English person. It's also similar when I'm reading Niel Gaiman, and in my head it's all American, but then a character pays for things in pounds or euros.
My question is, does this happen to other people? Particularly in games without voice acting. I know in Banjo Kazooie I went into it knowing it was English, so I ended up reading their voices (mostly Kazooie's) in an English accent. But my mind goes to the Pokémon games. Did British people read Professor Oak with British accents in their heads? I thought they must have, but then I remember I have a NintendoLife account and wrote this forum post.

Technically not an RPG, but I give Blathers from Animal Crossing a British accent even though he has an Animal Crossing gibberish language voice.
