I'm a fan of racing games. A big fan. Mostly because when I was little (like, say, between 3-9 years old), I was absolutely obsessed with cars, and racing (I especially loved Hot Wheels). I began to move into an interest in video games when I was about 9-11, but my love of cars kind of melded with this new interest. Thus, one of my very favorite genres is racing.
My first racing game (and, interestingly, the first video game I was ever really good at) was a little unknown game by the name of Mini Car Racing, for PC.
It was more than meets the eye. Not only did you have to reach the top 4 in each race, you had to do so by any means necessary. You had all sorts of weapons at your disposal: Lasers, rockets, mines, oil slicks, balls of energy, you name it. Place within the top 4 for 8 races in a league, and you move on to the next league. I actually recently replayed it, and it was in fact a very good game. It's extremely unfortunate it has such a misleading title (although, the camera is zoomed out, so the cars do look miniature), and is extremely unknown to boot. If you can get your hands on it, I strongly recommend it.
Now, on to the main discussion: what are your favorite racing games? I actually haven't played that many; if there are any really good PC ones that you know of I'd like to hear about 'em! Oh, and about the above video: TrackMania² Valley is looking to be the sexiest racing game I've ever seen! I've been a big fan of TM for quite awhile, but these new TM² games look extremely amazing! And I'm finally getting a PC soon that can run them! I'm so hyped! Any other TM fans out there?
Mostly, just feel free to discuss anything Racing related!
I played a bit of Trackmania Nations, the free one, and I absolutely loved it. The anti-gravity weirdness in the track designs and the variation in the challenges was fantastic.
I'm more of a fan of realistic racers though. My first console game ever was Rallisport Challenge for the original Xbox, and I played that for a long time. I also had Le Mans 24 Hours on PC. I'm seriously looking forward to Drive Club and Project CARS coming out soon.
As for kart racers, playing them in single player just makes me feel lonely :/ At my school once we got an 8-way game of Mario Kart DS going, and it was amazing.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
Woah. I had Mini Car Racing. Woah.
But I was much more interested in the Eggbert demo that was on the disc. My brother liked the actual game a lot, though. I remember I was never good at it.
Did anyone else here grow up with Nicktoons Racing? I was heartbroken when I found out mine was broken. I never even got to unlock the mystery driver who said "Get back here, you swine!" in Plankton's voice! Now I'll never know who it was!
Nowadays I'm really into Mario Kart, I think DS is my favorite because of the missions and bosses.

Gee, we have a lot in common! Speedy Eggbert was another of my favorite games when I was little! I also played my share of Nicktoons Racing at various arcades. Mario Kart is definitely a favorite of mine. I still have a soft spot for my first Mario Kart game: Mario Kart Super Circuit for GBA. It's usually considered the worst in the series (as far as I can tell), but I absolutely loved it. And I got a nice surprise when I finally got all the way through and unlocked the extra tracks; it wasn't until some years later that I found out they were just the tracks from Super Mario Kart! More recently, I've been enjoying Ridge Racer 3D quite a bit.
Oh, and here's a few screenshots I took from TrackMania United Forever that I'm rather proud of! I think, at least, that they really show off how awesome the game is. All of the pics are from tracks I made and cars I painted! (I've never actually played the campaign in the game; I spend all of my time creating my own stuff!)
