Topic: Purchased a backup Wii U

I bought another Wii U console with Gamepad and charger for $80 at a pawn shop. I believe only one account with the downloaded VC games can be connected to one Wii U console at a time. If my original Wii U stops working (The Gamepad from my original purchase is having problems, keeps saying cannot connect and move it closer to console even though it’s only a few feet away) and they close down the Wii U eshop, can Nintendo transfer my downloads to the backup console in this case? I’m trying to decide whether to download a backup Earthbound Beginnings since the only official copy of the game is on the Wii U eshop. When they eventually close down the Wii U eshop and if my Wii U console stops working, I assume I have no way of getting another official release of certain games like Earthbound Beginnings (in other instances games like Famicom only VC release of Bio Miracle Boukette Upa is no longer available at all with Wii shop gone). So should I download another copy of this game or will Nintendo be able to transfer my purchase to another console even if the shop is closed? I know we can redownload games removed from the shop so I ‘m wondering if they can access our purchases once the eshop is closed to make transfers in this case.

@Don Simply put, Nintendo hasn't said anything about closing down the Wii U eshop. So we don't know what will happen with transfers if/when they finally do. I personally don't think it will happen for a few years. 2021 at the earliest. But that's just my guess.

Also you should not need to buy an entirely new Wii U if only your game pad has malfunctioned. The game pad is just a controller in the end, everything is on the console itself.

Also I want to say you'd get more info posting in the Wii U thread, but that thread is 2 steps shy of dead.
