It's natural to worry of course, but you can make yourself ill worrying too much and that's never a good thing.

Hate to hear that. This is why I stopped keeping up with the news. Not much good news left in the world.

That tsunamis is gonna hit everyone in that area hard. :/

Magnitude 8.9 is higher than anything I've felt in my lifetime. Magnitude 7.1 is the highest I've experienced and that was over 20 years ago. There was major damage from that too and we are far more prepared for earthquakes than anywhere else. I hope people are okay in Japan, but...man, tsunami may hit here in under 5 hours.

Yeah, Japanese cities are built to handle earthquakes. 8.9 is huge, and the damage is significant, but it's the tsunami that does the real damage.

The entire Pacific rim needs to be alert... This tsunami is expected to reach South America and Antartica.

I saw that a while ago, and it looks horrible. Japan is very dear to me. I used to live there, and I know some people from Japan. I love the country, and it's hard to watch it get ripped apart like that. My prayers are with them.

My prayers are with all those affected. Man, that's a huge earthquake.

Some relieving news is that it seems the tsunami won't hit North America very hard. The waves are projected to dissipate significantly before they reach the west coast.

I don't pray (cos there is no-one to pray to), but I'm following events on the beeb and it's really quite scary. My thoughts are with those who've lost their lives or are unaccounted for. :/

I strongly second that, and for all exposed populations around the Pacific Rim.

It's so awful. I just hope it doesn't hit too hard anywhere else.
