Topic: Odds on a Paper Mario?

With a direct right around the corner what do you guys think the odds are for any news on the series?

@Big_Nook From what I've read it seems unlikely. The last couple entries in the series have done poorly (honestly they kinda deserved to as well). But I'd only say 60/40 against. I suspect the series will return, but not for a while.

With the likely Direct coming up I suspect we will find out what Nintendo's big release for December will be. We have Link's Awakening this month, Luigi's Mansion 3 next month, and Pokemon SwSh in November, but no major release planned for December yet. Not from the big N itself anyway.

Nintendo has noticed that gamers no longer buy paper marios, so they have decided it's best to use that time and effort to focus on mobile games, to give gamers what they really want.

Sticker Star actually sold better than the original PM and TTYD. Obviously the 3DS has a way higher install base than the N64 and GCN, but it was still successful enough to get a sequel forthe Wii U green lit (from what I can tell) immediately after launch of SS.

And CS was always going to bomb (even if it was in the classic PM RPG style), it was the last true Wii U exclusive (obviously not counting BOTW) that was released just a week or two before the Switch was revealed (a reveal that everyone knew was coming soon).

Not defending the “new styled” PM games in the gameplay department, but SS was definitely a success sales wise.

@Galarian_Lassie Well, I am misinformed then. I was led to believe that sticker star and the Wii U title both flopped heavily.

If there is to be one for Switch I'm sure it will be of a higher quality than the last couple of entries. Most of what Nintendo has put out this gen has been of a pretty high standard.

Paper Mario has a high 100% chance of coming to switch. i'd say 50% of what everyone mostly want happening though.

@OorWullie That's a very valid point. Nintendo has honestly brought their A game when it comes to games this gen. I think that's clearly a sign of the benefit of combining their resources and focusing on one machine, instead of trying to release games on two wildly different devices.

Make one for switch and it'll fly off the shelves

I'd like to see a new Paper Mario on the Switch, but I'd settle for a TTYD port since there's no way for me to play it unless I hunt down a GameCube.

I thought Super Paper Mario was pretty fun. While some of the mechanics in Color Splash were poorly thought out (Who on Earth thought it was okay to allow something to undo your paint progress or RNG hose you with Kamek encounters and leave you with no cards?), on the whole it's also a fairly decent game IMO.

I haven't played any of the others. I'd like to pick up the original on the Wii U VC at some point and have no desire to play Sticker Star.
