I actually loved Endless Eight. I mean, 2 of the most boring versions of it aside, it was at least interesting and different and the series greatness helped avoid it being as bad as it could have been (not to mention the self-parodying in the last 2 versions made me laugh hard). But the main reason is because of the internet. People on the internet often were just hilariously (intentionally or otherwise) mad at this and there were countless fun youtube videos. So, at the very least, it deserves credit for making the internet more interesting for a few weeks. That being said, I am certain outside of the hilarious ending (SUPER HEROIC MUSIC!!!) I'm probably never watching it again.
I love the concept of Endless Eight, but in practice it just felt like I was watching the same episode eight straight times, with very slight, and mostly superficial, variations.
And the thing is, Groundhog Day, Majora's Mask, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Source Code all employed similar time loop gimmicks and they were all excellent for it. But what made their use of the "characters repeating the same span of time over and over again" plot device so compelling and effective versus Haruhi's was that they allowed the protagonist to retain some knowledge of their previous experiences, even if none of the other characters did, so that they could further explore the same environments, characters and patterns in different ways and make different decisions. That their experiences were allowed to accumulate over the run time, and thus allowed them to more fully grasp their situations, helped to make it feel like there was something at stake.
What's mostly shown in Endless Eight, though, is the characters all making the exact same choices over and over and over again, with different outfits. Nobody learned anything after time was reset (well, to be fair, Nagato did, but you could hardly say she moved the plot forward) and they always had the same reactions when they would re-discover their predicament, so the tension never really built up over this long story arc. They could've easily cut it in half and still have effectively told the story they wanted to tell. I'm not against letting a plot develop slowly or without melodrama, but after a couple of episodes Endless Eight just became redundant and boring, which is the exact opposite of how the show was most of the time.
Jeez, the way I'm harping on it, you'd almost think that I didn't nominate Haruhi or vote for it in this match-up or anything.
Which is exactly how you would feel if you were repeating the same day over and over.
My vote goes to Haruhi, such an awesome series. :3

That's something that always interests me. A series that goes out of it's way to do something annoying or bad for...some reason, possibly for story reasons in this case so that you can understand the neverending time loop more and appreciate how terrible and messed up it is. Suda 51 is really good at this, purposely making stuff bad for story or theme relevent reasons. But at the end of the day, they are still not...good beyond that.
Brotherhood is better, but that's not something that should be held against FMA. It's still a classic series in its own right. That said, my vote is (barely) going to Howl's Moving Castle. Like all of Miyazaki's work, it's just so inventive, magical and gorgeous.

Like I said, it's a very interesting idea on paper, and I'll give it some credit for its ambition. But it did not make for good television.
I vote for FMA. Yeah, Howl's Moving Castle is...I dunno. I couldn't get through it the one time I saw it, that's all I need to say. Not that it was bad, I just didn't care.
An anime moive to a anima show. Can't really vote on that. :/
