@TommyTendo Reggie never knew what he was talking about all.he did was make empty promises and stupid comments to be made into memes. He never had anyone's interest in mind, gamers, and especially Nintendo's. Which makes me wonder why so many people put him on such a high pedestal when it comes to gaming. The guy was a complete joke.

I remember reading Nintendo went with the mini discs because you couldn't pirate them due to the new and uncommon format. That was correct, for a very, very short while that is.

I mean that was the reason that was given, I'm not sure it was that good of a reason. And to be fair there was a LOT of piracy on the PS2 so there may have been some merit to the idea. But ultimately I don't think the amount of piracy on the PS2 was due to the size of the discs. More the popularity of the PS2

I mean, there was a lot wrong with the way the GC released that conspired against it. It was also a fair bit later than the PS2 and by the time it came out it was already game over for that generation. But choosing deliberately to gimp the spec for no significant advantage, especially when the PS2 and XBox made a feature of full DVD playback, was a HUGE misstep

To me it wasn't the Wii U itself as I quite liked the console, it was the way it wasn't marketed at all from what I remember (not in the UK anyway). I honestly cannot remember one advert for any Nintendo games during that period of time. So people just thought the Wii U was an add on for the Wii, just like the balance board.
If they had shown it was an upgraded console or had even called it something else, I think they would not of been in the rut that they were back then.

Of course. I didn't approve of Nintendo's choice of using mini discs instead of regular DVDs either. Just wanted to explain why they did it.

Well, that and they really wanted it to be shaped as a cube! It's rarely a good idea to put design requirements ahead of practicalities but there was at least an element of that going on.

Thinking about it, the Wii is basically what you'd get it if you designed a GameCube around DVD media and that did very well. Obviously, there were many other factors to its success though.

Probably women anime games let loose on the eShop, it's impossible to avoid around people 😂

You sure about this? Because it only takes a slightly modified top shell to be able to use full size DVDs in a GameCube. None of the technical stuff needs changing, you just need a shell that allows room for the bigger discs. Looks exactly the same as a normal Cube once you've done the swap. If they wanted to use full size discs they could have done, space limitations were not a factor IMO.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Thinking about it, there is also the Panasonic Q, which had official support for DVD movie playback.

So yeah, they totally could have done it if they wanted to.
