@Banjo- Haha! Perfect response. But I am a bit sad I didnât go with drawing the Pretztail. That would have looked so cool in the style I drew the animals in. Guess Iâll put that on a list of things I need to draw!
@Eel the eyes make the Fudgehog look a bit off, and like the way you described it, but itâs in a funny way. I find it super fun to laugh at a few of the mistakes I make in my art instead of beating myself up about it, but thatâs rarely. I have a lot of my old art from 2018 and a 2021 artwork on my phone that, instead of beating myself up about, I get a good laugh at because of how hilariously bad they look. I could share one of them and we could all have a guffaw at it lol. I am fine with the Fudgehog looking weird since the other three look good. One dud is better than all four of them being duds!
@Pastellioli Generally speaking, we all make mistakes and laughing and learning from them is the best thing we can do. If you want another one with Pretztail, that's good news. đ
@Banjo- I would of course draw a Pretztail and maybe a Horstachio, surprised I drew a Doenut instead for the first one. The pose the Doenut is in seemed more suitable for the Horstachio, but I took the pose from a reference picture for deers. Not sure what the other two would be, I know there is a bear piĂąata called Fizzlybear that does look fun to draw.
And more about this drawing the Fudgehog went; when I started coloring all four piĂąatas, I first outlined and colored the eye, including the sclera and wanted to make them look bright. I colored a lot of the piĂąatasâ sclera with these fluorescent gel pens I got from a Walmart, and they are so bright. I chose to make the Fudgehogâs sclera pink because I chose to make the eyes purple and a lot of the colors I had were used for the other piĂąatas, but I didnât realize it looked so weird so I colored over it with yellow.
@Pastellioli I like Doenut's pose, great job. To recap, the first drawing has Doenut, Squazzil, Bunnycomb and Fudgehog. You mentioned that you would like to draw Pretztail and Horstachio. We have similar tastes (as we already knew). The other two piĂąatas are up to you, but Roario could look very impressive and nothing sillier than Sweetooth. đ And then there is Banjo and Kazooie that you also mentioned as a possible project... đ
@Banjo- Cool, Iâll try to keep those two other ones in mind when I draw. Iâm probably going to make a few small drawings today so I make a lot of art! I plan to make a marker drawing and an oil pastel drawing.

Gonna draw a bit more pictures later and post some finished ones here soon in a few hours! I am absolutely enjoying drawing with ballpoint pens and inexpensive art supplies. Never thought Iâd be drawing with pen a lot now since Iâm the type that likes to use art supplies that are faster to use. Iâll also include a little surprise with the artworks and hoping everyone gets a good laugh at it
Doing another drawing before I post my artwork, Iâve been taking really long. I canât wait to show it off soon! I am feeling way more creative than I did before.
I love drawing in pen a lot, even though itâs kind of time consuming. Iâm kind of inking the outlines of my new drawing in pink pen and I always like how the pink looks when I combine other ballpoint pen colors with it. Does anyone here like drawing with inexpensive office supplies like ballpoint pen or crayons? I have found myself appreciating more inexpensive art supplies as of late rather than using more expensive ones.
Made some fanarts! I drew Sonic, as well as a Horstachio and some Pretztails with a new art style Iâve been using in the top post. The bottom post consists of pictures showing step by step pictures of one of the Pretztail drawings, but it got too dark so I had to rely on a lamp, so the lighting looks bad. Also, Instagram has awful cropping, so it cut off the tails of the Pretztail so I didnât take pictures of the tail as I was coloring it.
I have wanted to draw Sonic for a while (especially after seeing the trailer for the third movie a few weeks ago) and I dressed him up in a bit of regal wear for fun. The Pretztail drawing is probably my favorite out of them all. Also, for the first post, scroll to the end for a little surprise itâs not scary, I promise!
@Eel Thank you! I am very obsessed with using pens right now, and the colors I have fit the piĂąatas very well with how bright and colorful they are. It was after I saw how an artist drew with standard pens that I wanted to use ordinary pens and supplies more in my artwork rather than alcohol markers and oil pastels. I love how some of the colors mix with each other to make new colors, but it can be time consuming!
My favorite parts of drawing the piĂąatas is the eyes. I really like making the eyes into different shapes and using a mix of colors for them, and I was so afraid of messing up the eyes on the piĂąatas. I have been wanting to draw a Pretztail for a while, and I have a second drawing of him that I need to color tomorrow! I canât wait to see how that one turns out. I am really proud of the Pretztail drawing, Iâd say itâs one of my best pictures I shared on this forum.
Almost done with some sketches! Bought a few new ballpoint pens today, so Iâll use those soon.
While I am here, Iâll just talk about my history with using pens in art since Iâm a bit bored. I believe the last time I used pens in my art was probably two or three years ago when I used alcohol markers as my main art medium, but I only used black pens. When using alcohol markers, itâs recommended that you use a smudge-free pen to outline pencil sketches that you are going to color in marker, since coloring a pencil sketch with marker will cause it to smudge, and pencil cannot be erased after marker goes over it.
I used black pens and sometimes colored pens a lot in my marker art when I drew in a cartoony anime art style, but I actually started to hate using them, because I would find that my line art looked worse than the pencil sketch which was more detailed, so if the lining looked bad by any means, I would not continue with the art at all, and I had a hard time having my marker color match the same shade as the colored pens; in traditional art, there is no going back and itâs harder to fix mistakes. When I started to draw in a more semi-realistic art style and scrapped my anime art style, I did away with pen completely and went for line less looks for my art because I got so tired of my sketches looking bad when inked, and the only time I used only pens in an artwork was two years ago.
However, I think itâs that I just sucked at using them and didnât utilize line weight or shading when coloring and gave them less time to dry. Using thick and thin lines can add details and depth to an artwork and makes it less flat. I am glad I have gone back to using pen, because I actually didnât realize how much fun they can be when drawing and how many details you can get with plain pens thanks to the tips being small. It fits a lot with drawing animal fur.
