Is NaNo's site messing up for anyone else? I can't even get on it now...

Yeah, it's been slow each time I tried to log in today. But that's fine. If the site is down, that's one less distraction for me.
Very much looking forward to this. I'm flooded with ideas, and while I can't say how strong this first draft will turn out to be, I'm positive it's something I can work with over the coming year to really turn into something special. Roll on, midnight!
I'm 100 per cent convinced that the idea behind what I'm writing about is marketable. Which is why I didn't want to go and plaster the whole thing in NaNoWriMo's Website.
Of course, the first draft is going to be appaling. But that's how first drafts work.
I hope they get it sorted out, people in my area were in the middle of planing a meet up, it's impossible to do that right now.. =(

@Elf: Then...don't. When you send it to NaNo, it's run through a counter and deleted; no one reads it.

They...don't encourage that anyway. In fact, if you tried to post your entire novel on their forums, I'm sure your topic would be locked and/or deleted.
Or did you mean the wordcount validation at the end of the month? That's entirely optional, non-public, and they point you toward utilities that will replace your actual words with the same number of nonsense terms just in case you don't trust them.

Yeah, I read about that - so I'm comfortable with the process.
Gotta be careful when it comes to this stuff - I know first hand what it can feel like to have your work stolen
Yeah, sorry to hear that. But if that's genuinely your concern, you don't need to do the validation thing anyway. You can just update your wordcount manually without submitting anything at all. If you DO validate, I think you get some blue-ribbon graphic or something on your profile...I don't know, that might have changed as I haven't done it in a few years.
But yeah. If you're concerned, you don't need to submit anything.
Whoo, so my first day ended up ahead of quota - 2100 words or thereabouts.
It's good to be slightly ahead of the minimum average daily word count, for those days where the inevitable procrastination or writer's block sets in, or give me time to go back and rewrite some parts I'm no longer happy with.
Gonna update my profile tomorrow if NaNo is back up and working smoothly.
I'm really sad I couldn't participate in this. It would have been fun, especially now as I have had lots of idea's running through my head.
Damn exams.
And next year I'm gonna do it to prove to a [insert mean word describing a mean person here] that I'm not an illiterate person.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
November 1st just started (10am) so Ill be starting in a few hours and get my quota in. Nervous, as this novel project is more ambitious than anything I've done before.

2,373 at the end of Chapter One. I think I'm done for the day, though I might start Chapter Two just for the heck of it. It's going great so far. I've already managed to surprise myself a few times in just five pages.
I probably won't read any more chapters after this one because of the content, but the first one was great! Really amusing and promising for the rest of the story. I especially liked Billy's dream. Good stuff.
