Anyway, I set up my account awhile ago, name is Popyman, so any of you can add me! Oh, I have a question: Do you have to give what you write a ending or can you just reach 50k and be done? That's what I'm worried about...
Everybody I know who's doing it has never gotten to the end of their novel during NaNo, but has gotten the 50,000 words for a win. I don't think you need to finish, and I'm sure I won't. With all the content I have I'm looking at about 80,000 for the end at least. I plan on finishing it in December and then editing during the rest of the month. Once that's done I'll start on my next project.

Haha, THIS.
In fact I'm making it a point this year of trying to conclude my novel on or before Nov 30. The word count isn't a stumbling block for me--especially this year, when I have so many ideas for the characters--but actually finishing the novel (ie: bringing the plot to its conclusion) within that time is something I've never managed to do.
Aaand truth be told I probably won't manage it this year either. But I'm at least going to try.
Ah sweet, thanks guys! Geez, this is going to be so easy then. =P I still might try to finish it, but I won't worry about it.

i'm shooting to have mine planned out to where i can wrap it up in the time frame, even if i start to get carried away. that way, when they send me the free paper-back print of it, it's one cohesive piece.

I'm definitely doing this. i love to write and draw. but it may be hard to make time for it. because i'm currently making a manga.
There's a comic spin off too, called NaNoMangO. You have to create a 30 page comic in a month.

They do it twice a year, one in November and I forgot the other month...It isn't as big as NaNoWriMo yet, but it's getting there.

There was also a screenwriting one earlier this year where the goal is to write a 100-page (each page equals approimately 1 minute of screentime) script in a month. I passed on it though, the formatting of screenwriting annoys me.

@O_B: that's April. and they encourage writing screen plays, stage plays, TV shows, short films, and graphic novels, so this may be the month both you and Popyman are thinking of...
If somebody wants to resurrect this thread (or start another one) in April, I'll try to participate. It'll be great to see the comics / scripts / whatever that other NLifers come up with.
So I have now decided on an awesome idea for my novel, and one I think could actually work out at 50,000 or thereabouts. So until November I shall research further, and then get cracking on the first. It's not actually that much work. 2000 odd words a day is child's play.
