I've now enlisted the help of my brother. Not with the actual writing of the novel, but seeing how he's a bit of an artist (He's done several web comics, such as this for example), I asked him to do a front cover for me and he's more than happy to.

At 4,806 and counting. I want to get to 6,000 by the end of the day, meaning my little brothers will need to go to bed before I get anything accomplished.
Time for a 40+ minute break for homework and the like. Right now, I am at 4,400 words. Doing good! keep it up, and at the end of the night I'll be caught up! (YESSHH-A! :3)
5,244 words that have been made into a prologue and 6 chapters at the end of day 3. I'm relieved now because this means I've caught up with the pace after only a 100 word day 1! One thing was weird though, I clicked submit changes, and it said, "changes can't be saved because content was modified by another user." was it a site glitch or what? Kinda creepy.
Got up to 2,600 or so. Yay I'm halfway to where I'm supposed to be! At least I'll prolly be able to catch up over the weekend...maybe. Hopefully. lol.

i've got a lot of work to do. still, though, my school takes priority, and i haven't been able to even start writing anything this week until after midnight because of how much work i've had. so i'm way behind schedule, but i'm about to get writing again, now. also, i have no class friday, so that should prove productive.
anyone be interested in commenting on some of what i've got so far?

@Kadunta: i'm with you there. i was at 993 this morning, and only at 1,383 after tonight (i'm about to call it a day). i'm behind as well, but I just finished the first chapter, and given tomorrow night, and free days friday and saturday, i should be able to (almost) catch up later this week.

Given the amount of execrable novels cluttering up the bookstores and libraries of the world, and which are fit only to be pulped into fertilizer, I wonder whether it might be preferable to have a month in which novel writing was banned? Just to thin things out a bit, you know?

So encouraging people to do something that stimulates creative thought and intelligent thinking should be banned?
Nice one, genius, go back to playing video games. NaNoWriMo is a brilliant idea, even if the number of people writing publish-quality stuff is relatively small.
Chill out FFS. Anyway, what makes you think writing novels in this way has anything to do with creative thought and intelligent thinking, particularly the spam-thousands-of-words approach advocated here? Joyce once said that the writing of one sentence per day represented a good day's work for him.
Actually, I don't think it's Waltz who needs to chill out, as you're the one who deliberately jumped into an 8-page thread to spit venom. You questioned the value of what Waltz is doing (and what nearly every participant in this thread is doing), and Waltz replied, telling you why he did not feel it was a waste of his time.
Next time, instead of telling people to chill out when they reply to you, you should take a few seconds to decide whether or not it's necessary in the first place to insult people for using their time in a way you don't feel is wise. (Newsflash: this is a site devoted to discussing video games. Not one single person here uses their time wisely!)
With that, this aspect of the conversation is over, and that's me speaking as a Mod, not a participant. There's no need to bother people enjoying something in their own thread, and certainly no need for anybody, on either site of the question, to fuel an argument.
I had planned on spending this evening reading, rather than writing, but a major hit of inspiration struck me instead.
I am now right back on quota with 6,810 words.
I realize now that I cannot read back what I have written. It's not a great first draft, although I fall more in love with the idea, and my main character (who incidentally has the same name that I give every one of my female video game characters - Amelia). It's going to be a great book one day, and will likely stretch way beyond 50,000 words. But if I read back this draft before Ive finished it, it will almost certainly demotivate me entirely.
So the new plan is to use this project to bang out what will be more a concept copy of the book than anything else.
BTW, I have also updated my NaNo profile to include a rough summary of what my novel is on. Whattayathink?
@HolyMack: I don't have a website, and don't much intend to create one just for this. i don't really want to put my whole novel online, either, as it's something i may try to get published after i've gone back over it... if i get good feedback. i would like to post my first chapter somewhere, though. it's the first part of a side story that will continue/finish later on in the story, and is thematically relevant all throughout, but other than that, has little direct relation to the main plot. if you look at my nano profile, you can see kind of what the purpose is in the Novel Info section, and this would be the first of the protagonist's written works. anyway, though, is there a way to post the chapter without creating a website like Chicken?
