Anyone here a fan of the Horror movie genre? What's your favourite Horror Film or series? Currently I'm into the Hellraiser Series, I have 1-4 on DVD and I really enjoyed them all. Personally I think Hellraiser (4): Bloodlines is really weak compared to the first three, but it goes back more into the origins of the Lament Configuration box and Pinhead seen in the first three movies. If you are curious about the Hellraiser series, it's best to watch the first two movies before going into any of the other 7 films, the first two are classics, but number 4 is where it goes off-track a little, but that's just my opinion.
Having only just begun to really appreciated horror flicks, I haven't seen a ton, but the last one I watched, The Shining (starring Jack Nicholson) was very good, I'm sure not everyone likes Stanley Kubricks 'art-film' style, but in this particular movie it works, at least much better than that mess of a sci-fi flick, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Still this movie had some pretty great and memorable moments, it's been parodied several times but that makes it even more memorable and interesting to watch IMO.
Let me know YOUR favourite Horror Film/series below, It'd be interseting to know what you guys enjoy.

I'm not a big fan of horror flicks (around Halloween, I just usually watch Ghostbusters, & that's a comedy).
Although, I did catch something called Santa's Slay a few years ago, which is so corny it's awesome. Pretty much, Santa Claus was supposed to be inherently evil, but he lost a bet to an angel 1000 years ago, so he had to be good & give gifts for 1000 years. Now his time is up, & he's torturing the populace of a small town.
Oh, & Jaws is a classic, if that counts.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
It's not exactly my favorite genre, to be honest, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy watching some of them; my favorite sci-fi horror/thriller (if it counts) is Alien from Ridley Scott, with James Cameron's Aliens as a close second
So, just curious, OP, but what made Stanley Kubrick's classic 2001: A Space Odyssey a mess for you?
The Thing. And I liked the classic Frankenstein movies.
Fan of: Shin Megami Tensei/ (Classic) Mega Man/ Pokemon/ Batman Arkham/ Metal Gear Solid/Peanuts/ DBZ/ Regular Show/ Power Rangers/The Walking Dead/ Invincible/ Detective Comics/ Secret Six/ Immortal Iron Fist/ Lobo/ Green Lantern

Holy crap how can anyone say 2001 was a mess?
I like horror films that are actually horrific, rather than comedic. I want to be shocked. Those films are rare. Gesper Noe's Irreversible was the last frightening film I have seen.
Because is was really slow and went bat**** insane in the last quarter? I don't see how anybody can call 2001 a good movie...
Because movies can exist for more than dumb entertainment. 2001 is an incredibly deep, nuanced and intelligent film. The last quarter is especially brilliant because its ambiguous and it's rewarding to sit down and try and work out what it means, or discuss it with other people.

This. Plus the fact this was more of an art film.

Well **** that, people shouldn't be praised for being ambiguous. That's not intelligent, that's just a freakin' cop-out. Anybody can make something ambiguous. Show me a real ending, G-ddamnit! That takes real skill, yet somehow that's not "intelligent"? Jesus Christ, what's this world coming to?

No, making ambiguous endings that still make a point are incredibly difficult.
And no. A movie like The Avengers has a 'real' ending, took real skill to make, and is not intelligent in the slightest. It's throwaway entertainment.
What is sad is that there are so many people out there that can only handle throwaway entertainment. I fear for the future of the arts.

Anyways, hmm... There's a lot of movies I could think of... If horrifyingly bad counts, but for real horror movies. I got nothing, because I've never watched a horror film.

This. Plus the fact this was more of an art film.
So if a film is an 'art film,' it's a mess?
What? No the movie doesn't really make a ton of sense, ok so there's a pillar and it basically influences human evolution, but how? The whole movie seems to be set around that idea, but nothing is really explained and the ending is pretty anticlimatic, really? a star baby? psychedelic lights? yes it's an art film that most people will have to watch several times before making any serious judgments, but seriously, a movie shouldn't make you watch it a zillion times to 'get it'.
Anyway, we were talking about horror films @WhiteKnight.

That's like saying that if you can't solve an equation straight away it's not worth bothering with.
Complex ideas, whether they're in the sciences or the arts, take time to understand. That's why they're worth studying, because there's a form of enlightenment that comes from understanding deeper meanings.
If everyone in the world stuck with sudoku puzzles and The Avengers, there would be very little social, economic or scientific development happening.
And I have been talking about horror films. I don't recommend you check out Gesper Noe's Irreversible, as I previously recommended. It's another art film.
