Just watched the first two episodes, giving it a chance as many have suggested. If these two are considered weaker episodes, color me impressed. I saw a show taking all the cutesy conventions of the genre and turning them on their head, with strong, hilarious characters. I've been exposed to a fair number of shows like this since I have three daughters, but this is the first one I've seen that toned down the syrup and added in the same kind of humor that had me staying near the TV when my girls would watch shows like Fairly Oddparents.
Now, if I can just convince my five-year-old of the following truth: Strawberry Shortcake bad, Ponies awesome.
It only gets better, as has been pointed out. Just wait until you get up to episodes 15 & 16 (my favorites so far, I think)! The remarkable thing about this show that I think has caused word of it to spread like wildfire is that it has universal appeal, for all ages, female AND male. There is something here for everybody to enjoy. Not just little girls, as might be a common misconception judging from the title. It's a show entire families can WANT TO WATCH TOGETHER and are able to without fear of content. How many TV shows and movies can you say that about? The dialogue and stories are something children can understand, and yet are also deep, humerous and entertaining enough for adults to love as well (for instance, a crack in episode 24 about "SPIKED" punch... so good!).
I might add WITHOUT being vulgar and controversial. I'd forgotten that a cartoon unlike "Family Guy", "Beavis & Butt-head" could entertain me. I could write a "lesson learned" letter to Princess Celestia about that being funny doesn't require f-bombs, insinuations and jokes about private parts.
At any rate, this is a hilarious, entertaining, captivating and heartfelt show that I hope only grows in popularity. Sad thing is it being on a largely unknown network, it may never get the publicity it deserves. Should at least be on Cartoon Network, where I imagine it'd have a much longer life!
And right now it's getting a bad rap for being nothing but an internet fad, just because of this 4chan meme thing that has spread (something I don't even understand, I'm new to that). That's wrong. It ORIGINATED on network TV, and it getting word of mouth by internet doesn't make it a passing trend. It just means it's good enough to spread the word far and wide about, by any means available. I would never have known about the wonderful land of Equestria if not for this thread. Not sure why I even came to it to begin with. Think I must've been bored at the time, plus a little curious because I do like cute things and the old My Little Pony came to mind seeing the thread title (as I'd never even heard of this new series). And I'm so glad I did. That's the nice thing about Internet. There's a lot of garbage, but you can also broaden your horizons and find great things you had no idea existed if you dig deeply enough. I know among my circle of friends, I'd have NEVER EVER heard about this show. Some of my friends barely seem to know there's TV programming except for fall, when it's football season! This is more than an Internet trend. This is quite simply one of the best shows on TV of any genre, and right now my personal favorite show!
Now, I'm going to have to pray that Cox Cable has a package with Hub in it, and I can afford it when season 2 starts. I'll go plum mad if I don't get more ponies (what would we do without YouTube?)!
btw, everypony pray for me. It's supposed to be 115 degrees or more here tomorrow... Likely to set the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in the city of Tulsa (and may not be far behind the all-time Oklahoma record of 120 degrees). I don't want to melt! I still have 7 episodes of season 1 left to see!!!

'nother question for everypony... what would you think of a MLP: MiF video game? Found myself thinking about it earlier. Yeah, if a game is made,it'd probably be some kind of casual party game. But, I'm imagining it as a side-scroller (or could be 3D... I just prefer good old fashioned 2D platformers). Our heroines (and baby dragon) having to save Princess Celestia and Equestria (Sounds so much like Eternia... wonder if purposely?) from some unknown force. I know, generic plot, but I'm not a game maker. Maybe some unknown force in the moon also awoken when Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon was. Or a dark shadow of her Nightmare Moon form still remaining!
Anyway, each pony would have her own strengths and weaknesses. Twilight, your magic user to cross obstacles/defeat enemies (can't you see her casting Meteor or summoning Bahamut???). Applejack to kick large objects against enemies, or the enemies themselves for mega damage. Rainbow Dash with aerial attacks and to use in tricky platform leaping. Rarity to search for hidden jewels, treasures and objects needed to progress the story. Pinkie Pie to use her "Pinkie Sense" to detect traps up ahead (and baffle foes with her general insanity!!!). Fluttershy to tame difficult monsters otherwise unbeatable and recruit animals to aid you.
Each would have weaknesses too. For instance, you'd use Rainbow Dash for tricky terrain, but not Fluttershy. Kind of like SMB 2, where Luigi was a high jumper, but was slow pulling objects from the ground, whereas Toad gained no airtime, but could yank up items like nopony's business!
I imagine Spike as an all-purpose ally like Rush or Beat in Mega Man, capable of helping you in times of need. And , if you find him on each stage, Derpy Hooves as a one use melee attack that clears enemies from the screen (like a Samus Power Bomb... if Adam has authorized her to use them yet, of course ). she'd just go pony bleep and KO everything on screen for you! What do y'all think?
EDIT: Had another thought. How cool would it be having a map like between stages in Castlevania & Castlevania III: Dracula's curse, showing the ponies' progress. And below the map the ponies themselves walking with determination across the screen (or bouncing in Pinkie Pie's case ), with the only sound loud hoofsteps. Goose bumps thinking of it...
@izbirdboy Humidity is the one thing we haven't had to worry about because we've not seen measurable rain in I don't know when. Entire state of Oklahoma is under a burn ban. I feel for you, because it's often muggy here too because it's rarely as dry as it's been this year. Hope things get better for you there too! Didn't get as hot as it was supposed to here. "Only" 112 degrees.
This the most offensive thing to bronies that I have ever seen in a long time. Seriously, it's just uncalled for. I don't know what would possess a person to put something like this on the Internet.

@KaiserGX My GOD that looks incredible. Fighting genre is about to become 20% cooler (yeah, the 20% thing is overused, but appropriate here)! I'm so impressed with the accuracy of the Applejack model and the smooth animation! Didn't know indie developers could do anything this great! I can't wait for it! Hard to imagine Hasbro isn't endorsing/helping with this. Thank God they're keeping the tone of the show and aren't going grimdark Ponyal Kombat. Embedding the pre-Alpha Applejack vs. Applejack below! Oh, for Rainbow Dash's stage, it'd so awesome if they used F-Zero X style music like they used in the Sonic Rainboom episode (I'm telling you, F-Zero X for N64 was a heavy influence in that episode). Wish an official MLP: FiM game would be this awesome, but you know it'll be a party game of some sort. Unless the publisher acknowledges the heavy brony fan base! [youtube:CSlnZxvi37s]
@thesignpainter I don't want to think about anything like that too hard or I'll cry (still trying desperately to get "Cupcakes" out of my head)! Only thing that comforts me is there'll always be a fan community to keep the show living on! And hopefully that won't come for several more years.
