Found my old special edition dvd copy of Se7en so decided to watch it last night. The packaging is designed to look like one of John Doe's notebooks, so that's kind of a neat detail.
Anyway, it's a great movie with some excellent performances from Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey, who unsurprisingly does a great job playing a creepy weirdo. It is a rather dark, disturbing and depressing movie, so something I need to be in the right mood to watch. Might need a palette cleanse, maybe Muppet Christmas Carol next?
@Jhena Really? I am on the opposite way. The movie is truly beautiful but the story is really bad.
MY opinion (just think about it): The movie ended in the EXACT same place where it started. There is literally zero advancement/building of any kind. I can only count one meaningful death for example and still nothing changed in terms of plot throughout the whole movie!
I was waiting for something to happen until the very end The first one had buildup, improvement, characters advancement.
Still I can't deny the gorgeous setting and the new animals.
@Zuljaras
It was mostly about showing the family and how they grew as a family together in a new environment. To me, this is what the story was about, and I think it was done very well.
What kind of story progression were you hoping for?
@Jhena To be honest ... nothing. The first one was too good to follow.
After all the 1st movie was about the human greed and destruction and this was shown masterfully in the first one. I was hoping for some twist in the sequel and I got nothing.
Growing together with the family in new environment was like watching aa discovery movie
I heard that Fire and Ash is more of the same.
@Zuljaras
I think the second movie showed the greed and destruction very well, too, with the hunt for Amrita, or whatever it was called. And the new character Kiri, who is probably the Jesus figure of this world, is an important addition to the story.
If the third movie is about the family again, I think I will like it.
Watched, Backdraft (1991). I remember catching this on tv all the time during the 90s, it’s been years since I’ve seen it. Great flick, always loved how fire is portrayed as a living creature with an almost malevolent intent. The Hans Zimmer score is amazing, but I’ll always associate it more with the early seasons of Iron Chef Japan haha.
I'm not a horror fan, but I just watched Werewolf by Night. It was really good! The cinematography was nice, the tension was high, and the actions was slick. Definitely very gorey, though (at least for me). I'll give it an 8, maybe a 9!
I'm eagerly anticipating From - Season 4.
Just wrapped up IT: Welcome to Dairy. It was a fun ride, even though the final episode was pretty lack luster. This series was at it's best, half way through, before Pennywise showed up in clown form.
Remake Pennywise is only good when he takes on the forms of different monsters, just like in the last two films. That's when IT shines. There's a lot of weird bizzar twisted creativity at play. yet once he's revealed as the clown, it all quickly falls apart.
Tim Curry's 90's Pennywise nearly looked like a regular clown from a Circus in the 50's or something. He never really looked malicious from the get-go(Which is a good thing), until he managed to loure the children in and started to shape shift into something terrifying once in close range. Plus Tim's performance was more theatrical, uncanny and creepier. Remake Pennywise? it's all 'try hard'...How can you lour in children when you already look evil and messed up? They always try and make him look and come across like some evil bad a**, as if they're telling us where's supposed to be afraid... Combine that, with the lame by the numbers whimsical hollywood horror score and it just destroys the tone, just as it did in the last two films.
So ya, IT is great when he's manifesting or shape shifting into monsters, or even people, but once he goes full on Remake Pennywise it gets roll eyes worthy pretty quick. If Tim Curry was around the same age as he was in the 90's, and reprised his role as the exact same pennywise from the 90's mini-series, I wouldn't be complaining! Remake Penny is incredibly weak.
its worth the watch but it doesnt hold a candle vs the 90s Mini series.
Caught In A Trap. A TV movie from around 2008. Connie Fisher, Jim Carter, and Geraldine James. Based on a true story, where a parking meter money collector began stealing during her rounds in order to fund her obsession with Elvis merchandise. I really enjoyed this one. Doesn't outstay its welcome, well acted, and great characters. I know it is odd, but I honestly prefer British made for TV movies to most big features.
Watched A Few Good Men (1991). I do love a good court room drama and this is one of my favorites. Jack Nicholson is so good at playing massive a-holes haha. RIP Rob Reiner.
Saw the new SpongeBob movie with my friend yesterday. We loved it, its really fun and surprisingly has some world building. The cast was great, the jokes were funny, and the plot is really interesting, although it does retread the 1st and 2nd movies steps a little. Overall, a solid Big Guy rating/10

@AmanPikon
What about the songs choice from new Spongebob movie?
Because I heard 1 song from the trailer (from Ice Spice) and i hate her song because I never like Nicki Minaj style rap song with very monotonous voice and awful background music choice.
If there is 1 song I hate to listen from the movie, I don't think I want to watch the movie.
And what about the joke choices in that new Spongebob movie?
Something absurd that can make me uncomfortable to watch?
Oh, boy. WICKED FOR GOOD is still being aired at my local cinema XXI despite only 1 time per day at afternoon since the other new movies have more priority than older movies.
