Anti-Matter

OMG...!!!
The 2nd trailer of WICKED: FOR GOOD is already out.
A lot of interesting stuffs.
I knew Nessarose silver slipper which glowing red will make her flying instead of walking as Marissa Bode already confirmed there will be some changes in movie version. Also, that means Nessarose can spell the magics and get the title of Wicked Witch of East.
I saw the catfight of Elphaba and Glinda with dialogue pretty much same as Broadway version.
That catfight was really intense, I wonder if Glinda will make funny war cry before attacking Elphaba.
I also saw Elphaba inside the trap door touching Scarecrow (Fiyero).
That was the final part when Fiyero and Elphaba decided to leave from Oz after Elphaba faking her death.

Can't wait to watch at cinema on 21 November 2025.

I have never watched anything rated R or TV-MA, but that changed yesterday. My cousins and I all watched Marvel Zombies together, and it was SUPER fun. It's rated that way for gore, but since it's animated I didn't have an issue with it (normally I am the guy running from the room with my eyes covered lol). Highly recommended if you want a good time with friends!

I've just watched Everything Everywhere All at Once. I don't watch a lot of films nowadays, but kept hearing reference to this so wanted see it and I'm glad I did. Interesting movie, a real genre mash-up: part drama, part sci-fi, part comedy, part martial arts, part comedy martial arts.

I'm a bit surprised it won the Best Picture Oscar (a fact I'd forgotten until after having watched it), just because it's a bit chaotic and a bit surreal, so it's one of those films where you're doubting whether you're following it all properly or whether it's purposefully hard to follow precisely what's going on. It's not something I'd particularly recommend to the casual movie viewer, just not quite mainstream enough due to the overload approach it takes at times.

But there's some memorable stuff in there, and a few real lol moments. And it is so nice seeing Ke Huy Quan as a main character in a really successful film again. There's a bit towards the end where you hear him say "Very funny", and it wouldn't surprise me if I find out that they'd sampled it from Temple of Doom, because it sounded so like how he says it in that.

@PeterTomlan86 I haven't watched Hugo, but I'm always drawn to stuff set in Paris, and it sounds interesting from how you describe, so I'll try to check it out, thanks.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Yesterday I kicked off my annual 31 days of horror movie marathon, in which I watch a horror movie every night. I keep the rules pretty loose, I can watch classic movies I've already seen, but I usually try to go for stuff I've never seen before.

Last night was Anthropophagous, an Italian slasher flick from 1980. It's a pretty by the books slasher for the era, a bunch of attractive young people end up in a remote location while vacationing and ultimately get picked off by a killer. Standard stuff, but I loved the locations they shot at, old costal towns and castle ruins, coupled with some great camera work, really contributed to the creepy atmosphere of the film. I was getting Resident Evil vibes, (the games not the terrible movies), especially considering the final act takes place in an abandoned mansion.

There is one stand out scene that made this movie a cult classic of sorts and earned it a place on the infamous Video Nasties list in the UK. I won't describe it here, but it's one of those scenes where you'll know it when you see it. It's so ridiculously over the top it almost becomes laughable. Anyway, I recommend this to 80s slasher fans, but it is certainly not for the faint of heart!

@gcunit Late reply, but there’s a little bit of Paris to see in the film that’s pretty, but I think the film takes place more inside the subway station. Though it doesn’t take up too much of the film’s runtime. (Don’t worry there are places to see in the film as well.) I would say when it comes to appearances of the film, there’s plenty to enjoy upon watching. To me that would be the making and showing of silent fantasy movies showcasing their extravagant and fantastic costuming and props, the, again, outside of Paris, and perhaps whatever else I can’t think of at the moment unfortunately. But do watch the film though, I would be curious to know what you think of it.

Saw director Paul Thomas Anderson(There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Boogie Nights)'s new film
One Battle After Another.

It's the current bookmakers' favourite for Best Picture, and critic and audience ratings are out of this world. I enjoyed it. Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. It's a satire about revolutionaries fighting the evil powers that be.

IMDb genre categorizes it as:

  • Action Epic
  • Dark Comedy
  • Political Thriller

Some of my favorite movies below:

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory: This movie is so funny with its cast of characters! I’ve watched a lot of movies in my time, but this one has to be the most humorous film I’ve ever watched.
The story is great. It has underdog characters that live in an unfortunate situation, and look like life for them will never change someday. But out of nowhere, out of luck I assume some would say, to us what looks like a Heaven sent, the main character who wants his unfortunate life to change, gets something that makes him feel like there’s hope.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe (Disney’s film): It’s an amazing adventure! Because it’s one that's an amazing adventure through awe, being a hero, witnessing magic and lore, and embracing truth in the most desperate situations and having faith in choices made. It’s really phenomenal overall and one movie that I’m surprised is not talked about enough in this day and age. It happens to movies though, so it shouldn’t be unexpected to me. Nevertheless, if anyone hasn’t watched this film, I recommend giving it a watch.

Star Wars: A New Hope: Almost the same reason I like the Chronicles of Narnia. It stars a young boy with humble beginnings, who becomes a hero, goes on a fantastical adventure, learns about and embraces the Force, AKA. a spiritual faith, and actually saves the entire galaxy doing so. The film is also super funny, which is a thing in the film that makes its adventure all the more larger than life: You know? the various great things in a journey that make a journey show how much there is to discover in life and is great. And the main character in the film, Luke obviously, is a character I’m sure a kid wishes they can be and go on the same adventures. I know I would certainly.

I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World for the first time recently. It’s a pretty good movie overall, with great performances, action and comedy. However, the movie felt pretty rushed, especially when it comes to the ending. I suppose that’s because they had to adapt a whole series into a single movie. Good movie though

Despite seeing all these movies multiple times before, Ive been rewatching Blood Diamond, Dune pt. 1 and Dune pt. 2, and Harry Potter Order of the Pheonix, Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows 1 & 2 as well as various YT reactions.

Blood Diamond soundtrack is one of the all time greats, btw.

The 2nd to last track, London, and the last track, Solomon Vandy, are two of the finest pieces of orchestra I've ever heard.

Here's a great 20 minute mix of some of the best tracks in the movie.

Just a question here I don't have enough knowledge of, actually, but can someone tell me how people's reception are formed when it comes to something like movies? For an example, how can a film like Ello get positive reviews on Rotten Tamatoes, but not so with people who have watched it on Youtube? (I have not watched the movie myself.)

WoomyNNYes

@PeterTomlan86 I don't see a movie called Ello. Do you mean Elio? https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/elio

A youtube review is typically one person's impressions, while Rotten Tomatoes is a much larger sample to aggregate a score average. I'd put more weight in Rotten Tomatoes.

Granted, sometimes I still like movies that get 30%-50% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, it's not perfect.

The Substance was one of my 3 favourite movies of 2024 (non-documentary).

I suggest people see it in a room with as many people as possible. There will be an effect!

@WoomyNNYes I mean't Elio, and I find it interesting that people on Youtube think the film and Pixar's other modern movies these days are a shadow of the company's former self, even though Rotten Tomatoes thinks otherwise. I was actually wondering at one point whether or not Rotten Tomatoes' review scores on Elio were rigged after passing by plenty of channels on YT not liking the film.

Same with the Star Wars sequel movies actually. Well, I guess Disney must be happy with Elio and their SW film' scores, and want to cater to that crowd of movie goers.

Been continuing my annual October horror movie watchlist, here are a few notable examples,

The Howling 2: Your sister is a Werewolf (1985)- I’ve seen the first Howling a couple times, and finally got around to the sequel. Oh man, is it gloriously bad in the best possible way. Worth checking out for the scene with Christopher Lee trying to be incognito at a punk show.

Arachnophobia (1990)- Hadn’t seen this one in years, really holds up. Much like Tremors it’s a horror comedy that treats the monster as a serious threat which I really appreciate. Always loved John Goodman’s exterminator character in this.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025)- I’ve never really liked this series, and this one is no exception. It’s basically a series of the exact same jump scare, person wandering darkened hallway, then BOO! scary old lady!! This type of horror has never been effective in scaring me, as you can see it coming a mile away. Also there’s just a lot of overdone cgi. I will say that there was some nice camera work, and some interesting stuff done with mirrors, but still didn’t save the movie for me.

Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)- I was initially skeptical of this one, it seemed odd that they’d try and stretch out that one chapter of the Dracula novel into a feature length movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. Really excellent production value, and some great performances. It’s a similar kinda pot boiler horror film to John Carpenter’s The Thing, i.e. a bunch of characters trapped in an isolated setting slowing realizing their growing peril as they’re picked off one by one. Really loved how bestial and savage Dracula was portrayed in this.

Train to Busan (2016)- This was a rather excellent zombie movie. They really take full advantage of the premise of a zombie outbreak on a train. Some really intense, gripping sequences, with a cast of likeable, (and unlikeable), characters. I will say the movie does kinda lay on the melodrama rather thick, especially towards the latter half of the film. And while well acted, it was a bit much for me. I generally prefer my zombie movies to lean more towards the fun side, and not the, I’m going to be depressed for a week side of things. That’s just my preference though.

My brother and I watched The Blob (1958) this weekend! We have both been scared of it since we were kids (long story short, we over heard our grandma talking about it when we were little and were terrified), but we finally got over that fear haha! It was kinda corny, and of course the effects weren't all that azing compared to modern films, but it was still very enjoyable! The story rushed along way too quickly, with character arcs just doing total 180s at times, but it was still a fun little movie to finally check off the list. And hey, I no longer run screaming out of dark rooms because I'm scared the Bob is gonna get me (that's what I called it as a kid)
