Metroid Prime for me. IMO, it's the most immersive of the series, and that really makes a difference.
This^^. Considering it was the Ocarina of Time of Metroid it was actually more groundbreaking than OoT. The atmosphere, the controls, the back story/main story, cinematography, the musical achievement, puzzles, difficulty.... damn what was WRONG about that game?

It was Super Metroid for me also. I played the first one and didn't like it much. Too hard and frustrating. With Return of Samus they got my attention. I was starting to take notice. Super Metroid really blew me away. Excellent game all around. Been a fan ever since. For Samus's 25th I predict a release on Return of Samus for 3DS VC.
The original is pretty difficult at the beginning of play. But if you give it a chance it becomes much easier after you find a couple energy packs and the Varia suit. For replay value or before you fight the final boss, there is so much hidden space that is undocumented and still needs to be mapped by sombody. I'm going to try, but I might not be skilled enough. I will admit I like "Return of Samus" more than the first. It had way better control and Samus could actually shoot downwards for the first time. It was also the only entry in the entire series to show the complete evolution of the metroids.
I just seen the "Zelda v.s. Mario" thread, don't see the comparison. Samus's wave beam or Mario's fireballs, Samus's ice beam or Mario's ice balls, Samus's screw attack or Mario's ground stomp? Which do you think is greater guys?

Half agreed because I also think other than maybe Super Metroid it's the best designed as a video game with the level design and the bosses, enemy placement and tons of stuff is just perfect. Same with the soundtrack, unlike the Prime sequels which sometimes had perhaps too many atmospheric songs and not enough catchy ones (now if only there were more Sanctuary Fortress, Dark Samus and Skytown level songs in the sequels)
Clearly Samus's abilities, equipment and acrobatic prowess are superior to Mario's. Samus was wall jumping to great heights long before our pudgy plumber friend even thought to try it...

@ WaveBoy Yep I got those two also. Zero mission makes the original look like a Dinosaur. I really couldn't enjoy it on Nes but the GBA remake fixes every problem and adds to the game. Fusion was cool because it was like the Metroid series came back from the dead. I never expected Metroid would return after 8 years of no new games. Super seemed liked the end. Then bam 2002 came along and we got Prime and Fusion in the same year! Now the series is stronger than ever.

The change in difficulty is pretty hilarious (outside of maybe hard mode, Zero Mission is as easy as Kirby's Adventure).
Wouldn't it have been awesome (if insane and impossible) if Metroid Prime Pinball had every room and area from Metroid Prime and you had to go throughout the entire game and get items almost exactly like they were in Metroid Prime?
That pinball game was aight, but I really didn't think Metroid fused well with that genre. Except for the morph ball concept. I think Sonic the Hedgehog pinball is more like it. IMO
Also, remember that Harmony of a Hunter project that NL posted about a few days or so ago? Here's the video:
Which of the songs sound the best to you? I really liked the sound of Metroid Fusion's Sector 1 music. I'm not a huge fan of Fusion, but it just sounds awesome. The Ing Suite remix sounds really awesome too.
Also, the video game music choir sounds really silly imo, lol.

August 6th is just around the corner. I hope Nintendo is planning on doing something for Metroid's 25th anniversary. I would love to see a Super Metroid 2 or a Metroid 2 "Return of Samus" Rebirth made available for WiiWare download. What would you guys like to see happen on this occasion?

Super Metroid is Metroid 3 so seeing Metroid 3-2 would be irrelevant. And Metroid II: Return of Samus was originally released for the GameBoy so it would make sense to put it, in some form, on 3DS.
