Did you know that Samus is actually a woma... oh.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Sadly I get the feeling that Nintendo is gonna do much, if anything, for Metroid's 25th due to all the whining about Other M. It kinda wouldn't surprise me if it became a "long lost franchise" for a long, long time a la Kid Icarus.

See what I mean, the 3D installments are headed down the road of the forgotten. I think they should have stuck with tried and true style of gameplay. Instead of mainstreaming the series with 3D gameplay, they could have applied some new concepts or improvisations to keep it feeling fresh and interesting.

I freaking love Super Metroid. The end of that game was so unbelievably epic. <3

Did you know that the original Metroid actually had 5 alternate endings? I plan on making Super Metroid my next download.

Nah. I've played Zero Mission almost to the end, but the original Metroid is a bit too dated for me. If they remade it as a 3D classic and polished it up a bit, though, I'd be all over it.

And yeah, if you haven't played Super Metroid, you need to go download it right now. D:

See I favor the original style of gameplay a lot more than the 3D installments. It just doesn't feel the same for me. I guess I'm old school, but that's just me. lol

Same here. I liked Prime well enough, but I didn't care for the sequels at all. And as for Other M... lol. :3

I don't think it'll ever get better than Super Metroid.

@pixelman I agree I didn't find Other M enjoyable at all. It felt more like a chore than fun to play it.

To the mud slingers, I hope you're happy to be killing a franchise that I love by being jerks. I wonder why Nintendo isn't doing anything to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Metroid this year...

(posted in the Other M discussion thread)

Honestly, I don't think that the insulting of Other M and the negative reviews are going to kill the series. Metroid is still one of the biggest franchises with Nintendo and gaming as a whole. If Sakamoto or the developers supporting Metroid scrap the series that would be an insanely drastic move over one crash and burn.

August 6th is the Anniversary of Metroid as well, so we don't even know if Nintendo has nothing in store for the anniversary or not. I'm expecting some Virtual Console releases to the 3DS. Maybe even a 3-poster set for Metroid could be put on Club Nintendo for a week or so.

If anything, though, I expect Nintendo to come out of this stronger. They will revitalize the series with better ideas, kill off the bad ones they used and overall make a better game through experience. (Plus, since when did Nintendo ever not recover from a bad game in a series? It's not like Mario died from Mario is Missing or Link from those terrible CDi games, lol).

Look at Donkey Kong Country Returns. My Wii had to perform a system update just to play the game. Probably due to the graphics and other modernisations. And I didn't even play the game an hour and a half before I was sick of it. I'll admit it did look great, but the gameplay wasn't there for me. I really, really believe that Metroid should try going back to it's roots. Even if it's just a WiiWare title like "Super Metroid 2" or something like that. I would be happy as long as it's a free roam sidescroller and has the same feeling in the gameplay as the originals did.

I'd just like to say that I liked Other M. So Phooey on all you haters. Metroid was ruined my butt.
Btw I'm also a long time fan so don't give me that (real fans don't like it) crap!

@WaveBoy See that's the difference, I loved "Return of Samus" when I was a child. If I still had a Gameboy, I would still love it today. Too bad there was never an NES port of it.

Prime 3 gets alot of Crap too but honestly it's my favorite of the series. The first one was great and I was amazed they actually pulled of a first Person Metroid game. I had doubts early on but soon my mind was at ease.
I normally can't stand FPS games but with Metroid it worked. Prime 2 is my least favorite but Prime 3 was fantastic!
Only thing I really missed was the lack of any underwater areas. The Crashed Frigate from Prime 1 was hauntingly beautiful.
That music just puts my ears in a state of audio bliss!

Only thing I didn't like about Prime 2 was the Dark world. Your life drained constantly until you get better suits.
I was killed many times mainly because of this. On top of the game already being hard as hell.
Just last year I actually beat the entire Trilogy on the hardest difficulty. I nearly broke my controller in the process.
Such hell that I don't think I'd ever want to go through again.

Seriously we've had how many 3D installments in a row? Can't the old school gamers get a slice of that old school style, that made the game popular in the first place?

I have no idea why I didn't create this club myself back when I first joined, but no use fretting over that now...

I love all the games in the series, even the ones considered "weak" (II, Echoes and Other M). As for preferring Corruption to the original Prime, I'd definitely have to disagree. It was a great game, no doubt about it, but Metroid Prime was like playing Super Metroid in first-person, and the wiimote+nunchuck controls added for Trilogy makes it easily surpass Corruption, in my opinion, at least...

Which was the first game that the rest of you played? For me, it was Super Metroid back when I was a kid. A cousin of mine had it, and despite the fact that I didn't understand where to go or what to do, I knew it was something special. When I got a bit older, I found a copy of Metroid II at a GameStop and bought it; it became the first game in the series that I owned and beat (I still own the cart). As for my favorite game in the series, that honor goes to Super Metroid—no real surprise there—which I find is the epitome of the franchise...

Nintendo better do something, anything, in celebration of Samus's 25th anniversary. I've longed for a 3-poster series on Club Nintendo for a while now, but that definitely wouldn't be enough for me. We get that Mario is the top dog, Nintendo, but show some love to your heroine Samus Aran, too...

If you have read through this thread @Straw_Hat_Luffy, you'll see that I completely agree with your choice of "Super Metroid" and why.

It was Super Metroid for me also. I played the first one and didn't like it much. Too hard and frustrating.
With Return of Samus they got my attention. I was starting to take notice. Super Metroid really blew me away.
Excellent game all around. Been a fan ever since.
For Samus's 25th I predict a release on Return of Samus for 3DS VC.
