Topic: Likelihood of Wii games on Nvdia coming to Switch

Don

How likely do you think we will get the Nvdia Wii games on Switch? I read the Switch and Nvidia use the same engine.

Don

@Don Might get your answer mid sept. September 13 is the super mario bros 35th anniversary date. If mario 35th anniversary remasters are real, mario galaxy could be coming.

I'm hoping for punch out Wii and donkey Kong returns.

I think they are talking about an emulator for Wii games on the Switch rather than remasters which are different. @WoomyNNYes

@jump the remasters for all we know are just nvidia port of galaxy and a n64 NSO version of the old virtual console releases. Ultimately we don't know the quality of the remasters.

@sixrings A port and an emulation are different things. Emulation is a program to trick the computer into working like a different one which is what the Nvidia Wii games are, whilst a port is the re-working of the game itself to run on different hardware.

@jump I understand the difference. But that's nuance and Nintendo hasn't given us any information on the Mario games. It is all rumours. The switch emulates nes and snes games. Who is to say that they don't emulate the Mario re releases from the Wii, GameCube and 64 era. I am going to assume unless I see differently that Nintendo is going to bring the Mario games over the cheapest and easiest way on their side, especially when said emulator already exists. Most people on our side won't even know if it's a port or an emulator running the games.

@Don
I've actually had this on my mind for a while now. I'm a little surprised no one has created a forum for this, until yesterday.
That being said, I believe that N64 NSO will come next, and then the Wii/GameCube Nvidia games will probably come after that. I believe that the Wii/GameCube Nvidia games will come separately, like they do on the Nvidia Shield because packaging GameCube games and Wii games into their own collections via a NSO app would make the app size too big for some users.
They might be sold individually, like they are on the Nvidia Shield for maybe $10, or $5 of you're a NSO member.

@ACNHislit I don't see Nintendo being that user friendly. They might give us N64 games upscalled in NSO but GameCube and Wii emulated games at 1080p 60fps will be priced accordingly. Maybe $40 instead of $60. But definitely not $5-$10. Nintendo knows people will pay up so they will take advantage of that

@sixrings
The $5-10 range was me being hopeful. Most likely, it will be between $10-20. I don't think will be $40 per game, as Arcade Archives and SEGA Ages are $8 a piece, and the Wii games on the Wii U VC were $20 a piece.

@ACNHislit 20 on Wii u VC was a 480 emulation or port. If we get the nvidia 1080p 60fps port emulator I'm sure we will be paying more simply so that Nintendo doesn't suck money away from the actual switch releases. We don't even have Nintendo selects because Nintendo isn't trying to give discounts yet. But sure... you can stay optimistic

@sixrings
Why would the Nvidia Wii & GameCube games take away sales from the Switch releases? 🤔
Episode I Racer is $15 and (I believe) it's 1080p 60fps, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast are $20 and $10 respectively, and (I also believe) they are 1080p 60fps.
That's why I believe that they will be between $10-20 each.

@ACNHislit 64 is a generation before GameCube. There is a big difference between what a 64 game upscalled looks like in comparison to a GameCube or Wii game upscalled. Plus your comparison isnt perfect for another reason. There is no new star wars games for the 64 podracer to compete with your wallet for.

If a parent goes to a store or eshop and see odyssey, 3D world, and new super Mario u deluxe each priced at $60 and then they see a upscalled Mario game for $20 there will be more than a few people who simply cheap out and avoid the higher priced item.

@sixrings
Just an FYI, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast were on the OG Xbox and the GameCube respectively, when they initially released.
Oh okay, I didn't think of people wanting to cheap out because of price, that makes sense.

@sixrings
Why wouldn't they be the same price then?
Most of the porting work would be done, as the only they would have to done would be to replace the Nvidia Shield Controller icon with the Switch controller icons, and translate the games.

@ACNHislit I'm not used to Nintendo doing anything cost friendly. Maybe I can be pleasantly surprised.
