"THERE ARE HUMANS IN THE WORLD WHO ARE UNAWARE OF THIS PIECE OF NINTENDO TRIVIA. THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY ALL RETARDED OR SEVEN."
The game is called The Legend Of Zelda with "Zelda" in massive red letters, and almost all the box arts featuring a green dude with no other name to tie to him. And all lack the princess herself. Shockingly, some people might just make the assumption his name is Zelda. Although I suppose what with Zelda being such an enormously common female name, that would be a silly assum- oh wait it isn't.
True, but, it's not like the game hides the fact that Link is not Zelda.
Welllll... excluding the later entries, the games let you name him for yourself and doesn't give Link as a default name, so the games don't even explicitly state the guy's called Link anyway. He's a nameless hero. And the first game does give you the extra quest for naming him Zelda. Pretty certain calling him Zelda gives some sort of easter egg in another game too.
When The Legend of Zelda was first announced for the NES I thought Zelda was the main character. But that was the extent of my confusion. After buying the game and reading the manual, I found out otherwise. But then I wondered why the game was called Legend of Zelda and not Legend of Link. Oh well.

Before I played any of the Zelda games I used to call Link Zelda. Then once I played my first Zelda game I was like, Ohhhhhh, Zelda is the name of the princess.
and I think I find out Samus was a girl via the internet.
Turning the clock back to early 1988, before I got The Legend of Zelda, I thought the character you play as must be Zelda. Commercials moved too fast to really tell any gender characteristics (then there's the little sprites to make identifying harder). Of course, I found out about Link reading the manual before playing. But, for a brief time, I figured you must play the titular character.
The HERO chosen by the Godess this shows that hes a guy and he wears a sword this should make anybody understand what he is never seen a girl with a sword(Katanas doesnt count as a sword they are too light so even a child could lift them up)
I never knew that a girl can't be a hero or wield a sword.
mind = blown

Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I bet there's not a single guy in the world named Link. That's definetely an odd name. However Zelda has been pretty widely used for girls since probably the dark ages. Why anyone would think Link was Zelda is beyond me. The Nes Intro clearly says Zelda is the princess and refers to her as She. It also says she was captured by Ganon. How do you think you are playing as her if she's the one captured? Didn't any of you bother to read the opening text? [youtube:uyMKWJ5e1kg]

So Samus wielding an arm cannon is blasphemy? Holy shiz.
