Topic: How did My Little Pony Friendship is Magic avatars become so popular on the internet?

I just noticed Applejacklove's avatar (which may or may not still be a yellow pony with a big pink bow depending on when you read this) and realized I've seen a ton of these all over the internet as well as little video clips on YouTube. Is it a meme thing that just somehow boomed out of nowhere?

Best not to question it or even raise the issue at all, some of them take it quite seriously asking why a certain religion is so popular would be less of a mine field.

A lot of people really like the show, and a lot of people use the things they really like as Avatars. Not that hard to understand, really.

I asked this once in the comments section of another website, and they swarmed me with comments like "buck you" and "get the buck out", lol. The puns they use are just horrendously bad as well ("Brony", seriously). Yes, it's very, very odd.

My friend's a brony and I respect his decision (even though I see Rarity everywhere) because it's an ok show I've seen a couple of episodes with him it's got good old school cartoon comedy even though it can be pretty girly at times. I'm more of a Dan Vs. fan.

I think the pony avatars everywhere is kind of strange myself. So I guess it's a cartoon that's on now??
Is it like, a little girls show, or what? Just seems strange that it's gotten so big, especially on this site, and I don't really even know what it is.

I don't know tbh. The show is crappy and the ponies looks like poorly drawn paper cut-outs. But I'm guessing the whole 'trend' started out on 4chan. It's usually the source of weird things and most memes.

I may as well answer the nexty logical question, which is "how did My Little Pony become so popular?" Which is also a very simple thing to answer: It's becoming very hard to find anything good on TV, and nobody really saw MLP being a good show, so it was an unexpected treat for a lot of people when it turned out to be really entertaining, and as it turns out, people really like surprises. Since then, it's just been spreading through word of mouth and people using MLP avatars.

And we've come full circle. Hope that helps.

Speaking of which, I'm pretty sure Powerpuff Girls was a girl's show, too, yet that gained a large, mixed fanbase with little question. Guess who made Friendship is Magic???

if you do anything negative to bronies (ex.hate on MLP) they will come after you more then zombies trying to eat your flesh

Are you really trying to start a brony war on Nintendo Life? O.o

It was originally supposed to be a little girl's show that came out on The Hub (a channel owned by Hasbro) but it became really popular with guys everywhere and they began to surface on the internet and they were called bronies (Bros who like ponies). Three of my friends are bronies and when I ask them why they like it they say they don't know. From what I've seen the show has good comedy, sometimes I get that old school feeling like I'm watching shows like Dexter's Lab, Ed, Edd and Eddy or the Powerpuff Girls. The ponies have also faced off against some villains and other stuff and it's alright it can be a tad girly sometimes but I guess people like it.

To be fair, that's pretty much any modern cartoon. Why they don't want to hand draw anything anymore is beyond me. It all looks like cheap flash animation anymore. Still, the unusual level of adult fandom this show has is disturbing, lol.
