To be honest, if I was a parent, I'd probably block Youtube too. The videos might be clean, but I wouldn't want my kids reading the comments.

I'd let them use the internet as much as they want. That way they'd get know about how the world works by themselves. And I wouldn't have to have "the talk" with them. Actually might as well throw them out into the deep end of the pool and just direct them straight to chat.

Seriously though, if I had kids I'd keep them busy teaching them how they might stand a chance against me in Super Smash or something. I myself didn't have any form of access to the interwebz (outside of the computers at school, which were constantly monitored by teachers) till I was like 10 or something. Even then it never occurred to me there could be nudity or any kind of profanity on the webz. (Sigh... how small didn't the internet seem back then?)

@lz: a BIOS password can be set to be required at startup, which is what i've done with my computers pretty much as soon as i get them. that's what i mean :3

I think my parents don't know that YouTube isn't blocked. There's some problem in the blocking system on the wireless router.
So basically my parents don't know I go on YouTube all the time. But all the other stuff that supposed to be blocked is blocked. Haha:

youtube can be an evil site. i always gotta navigate the minefield so that a video doesnt blurt out the f-bomb in front of my little cousins and theyre parents. but NL doesnt post nasty videos like that on the site, so maybe convince your mom to unblock the site, but promise never to go on it directly

The reason why my mom blocked YouTube is because I was watching Bad Romance by Lady Gaga on YouTube (well, actually it was because she realized that YouTube has similar content on it). And I must agree, that video is not appropriate! But it still isn't a good reason to block YouTube.

I'm gonna chain my kids to an anvil and force-feed them episodes of Happy Days til they're 23.
