Topic: Has the 3DS destroyed the Competition - Vita?

I am planning on getting the Vita at launch, so don't just think I'm a stupid fanboy making daft comments. My main point it that MH3G and MH4 are really going to take their toll in Japan - I can't see the Vita getting a glimpse of the action - So I see it as a 3DS win.

In the west, well the Vita has yet to have it's official Launch titles revealed, but if the Japanese launch is anything to go by, there's nothing massive in there. Also, Monster Hunter pretty much single handedly saved the PSP from failure, and without that backing (Yes I know that it hasn't been confirmed for 3DS Exclusivity, just speculating) then the Vita might not have much big software to rely on.

I'm happy the 3DS will do well and everything, and of course that's good news, but do you think the Vita will be destroyed? I wouldn't really want that to happen, as that would create a lack of software for my Vita, but what are your thoughts? Do you think the Vita is dead, or is there something I'm missing?

Vita still has a lot of potential, especially if you're going to link it up to your PS3 and play between the two, while IF (and only if) MH3 and MH4 turn out to be 3DS exclusives, it WILL be damaging to the Vita, however I believe it would be far from a death knell, the Vita still has potential and it won't go down without a fight

I think the Vita will be mildly successful and not be a commercial failure but I'm confident it will lose in sales to the 3DS. As you mentioned, Monster Hunter is gonna completely steal Japan plus when Nintendo 2 AAA 3DS games (3D Land and MK7) it will be over. From then on in there is a fair stream. Next year will start off with a bang with games like Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, and Luigi's Mansion 2. By that time the eShop should really be rolling to. Basically, the 3DS will hit its stride with the release of Super Mario 3D Land and any window of opportunity the Vita had will vanish. Don't get me wrong, as I said, I believe the Vita will be successful, just not as much as 3DS.

I agree with bboy and although the launch line-up doesn't look that good and I'm not planning on getting one, I think it looks like a good rival to the 3DS with titles like Persona 4 golden, Tales of Innocence R, Final fantasy X HD, Final fantasy XIII-2, Gravity daze, Blazblue continuum shift 2 plus and the new MGS and SH games.

why must one system 'destroy' the other? i will probably be getting a 3DS during the holidays. my son, who is now 26 and has played just about every system ever made (thanks to having a game-loving mum) really wants the VITA. we will, imo, have the best of both worlds. i am very impress by what i've seen of the VITA, the 3DS not so much, but i have loved nintendo franchises a l-o-n-g time, lol, and next year they will have a library of games that make the purchase worthwhile for me.

i really think the economic state of the world right now is more important to the life of gaming than anything else: when money is tight, people have much less discretionary income to spend on recreation/luxuries.

Well... only time will tell. The 3DS is getting some awesome exclusives but the Vita might receive even better ones in the future.

doubt it but a 3DS victory looks much more likely than it did just a couple months ago

as I said before, it depends if people want unoriginal remakes or somehow equally as uncreative sequels. Or maybe worthwhile games like Rocket Slime 3D or Gravity Daze will sell. ...nope, couldn't say that with a straight face.

True

This. Only time will tell us whether the 3DS, Vita or any other competition will win out in the end, if they don't tie or something like that.

Exactly.

How is the former any less of an uncreative sequel than other 3DS sequels? Wouldn't something like Rhythm thief and the emperor's treasure or Bravely default: the flying fairy be a better example?

I hope so too, and I think they probably will as well. The handheld race, or whatever you want to call it, could be much closer this time around. Both systems have very promising libraries, although the 3DS is taking its' time delivering it, while the Vita's looks like it could be on tap as soon as it's launched.

admittedly true, but I was just naming random games that won't sell 1/4 as much as games that will almost certainly be far inferior. (not to mention, the last Rocket Slime game had pretty abysmal sales in America IIRC)

The Vita looks like Sony best attempt at the handheld market so far, but that's all it is at this point, an attempt.

I do think this year that the handheld race will be much more closer then last generation, but this christmas I'm getting a PSP-3000 so I'm prob not getting a 3DS till the re-design or Mid-2012 and not the Vita till maybe Hoilday 2012.

If Sony could find a way to port over games like or comparable to the original twisted metal series, jet moto, max payne, or siphon filter to handheld I think they would have something going on. Of course these are just games that I played and enjoyed. So far I see Wipeout coming out, but that is all that interests me. Not picking up a Vita just for one game.

On a side note, I wouldn't mind seeing San Francisco Rush, Blast Corps, Ken Griffey Jr. or Waialae golf games for 3ds if retro titles are ever marketed.

Oh look, more PSVita bashing.
I think this makes the 10th thread already?

I wish the 3DS had a better line-up of games, so you guys would be playing your 3DS more then bashing on other console on NintendoLife.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.
