Topic: Getting spoilers out of your head?

Posts 1 to 18 of 18

Hey guys, I just wanted to vent/ask for help about something that kinda been bothering me lately. I have been playing Xenoblade Chronicles, and I accidentally, through comment on YouTube videos of the soundtrack of xenoblade, had a few things spoiled for me. Any tips on how to work these out of my head for when I play Xenoblade? I know this is kind of a stretch, but any feedback would be helpful.

Thats why I dont read comments on reviews or other things similar to that before I play and finish the game.

Other than that maybe take a frying pan and hit yourself over and over again to maybe induce a bit of amnesia.

That's a great suggestion, but it would be irresponsible not to suggest a doctor check-up afterwards.

I had this happen when I read about the game during play. It was about Seven. I basically went and just said "that can't be true!"

LOL, same. I saw a picture of Seven before I even played the game, and I had to convince myself it wasn't who I thought it was. Which, to some degree, is true, but still that one picture did spoil a little for me.

Sadly, I sometimes spoil things for myself because I'm good at analyzing stories. In SW: KotOR, you MC has a secret that you learn about 3/4 of the way through the game, and I guessed it in the first couple of hours of play. Haha, Once gain, I had to tell myself it wasn't true.

This thread makes my head try to think of spoilers and then I try to tell it not to.

Hmm, what are the flash-bulb things people use in Men in Black again?

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

First of all, doing something such as writing this thread is actually reinforcing the spoiler. And due to how the brain functions, it is likely that actively trying not to think about a spoiler will actually enforce it. For the future, I have two tips: the first is downplay it. Find other ways to occupy your mind. Distract yourself. Maybe take a break from the game. If you're lucky, your brain won't have converted it from short term into long term memory. The second option: immediately be skeptical of anything you read online. I mean, obviously the internet is full of falsities. Maybe what you read simply isn't true. If you can convince yourself of that, it still could be somewhat shocking when you discover it is true.

I totally understand your position. Sometimes spoilers are in the most inconvenient places. It sucks to stumble upon them but it does happen...

Just get it out of your mind, don't think about it, pretend it doesn't exist, pretend it was the girl that dumped for some reason that doesn't make. Pretend it was that one bowling pin, that one stinking bowling bin that stayed up, the one that took away your perfect game. Pretend it was that one onion ring in your jumbo fries, and you don't like onion rings, you hate them, you think you're eating french fries, but you grab the onion ring, eat it, day is ruined forever. Pretend it was that alarm clock that's batteries died a minute it was supposed to wake you up, and you had to get up for work/school in the morning, then you get the call saying you're late, and next thing you know, you're in trouble. Pretend it was that 5 dollar foot-long at subway, and your favorite sandwich is sandwich of the month, and when you get that sandwich, you measure it, and it's only 10 inches, day is ruined forever. Pretend it's that ice cream that you like, different from your friends ice cream, however, for some odd reason, your ice cream melts first and faster then your friends, and while your friends ice cream was good and clean, yours was a mess, and has made your hands sticky, with no sink in sight. Pretend it was that prize inside that cereal you love so much, you really wanted that prize, because it's swell, you open the box and look for the prize, but then you realize that it's not inside, leaving you without a prize, but just cereal. pretend it was that noob online, after years of mastering a very difficult fighting game, with every character, and you play somebody online, and all they do is spam the same move and button mash, but they somehow win, and you try to beat them, and when your very close, they disconnect from the internet, stealing your win. Pretend you start your car, and when you usually start it, it plays your favorite radio station, with your favorite music, but somebody left it last time on a different radio station, and it plays your least favorite song (ex. a Justin Bieber song), and when you try to change the radio station, the radio change buttons don't work, so that means you can't change it, and you have to drive to work, which is an hour away.........also, the radio station is having a Justin Biber song marathon. Pretend it was that soup that got away. Pretend it..............was...................that...........

The worst part is where you're watching a series on Youtube and you go to the comment section to leave a comment, and you accidentally read the comment below you which gives you spoilers. I stopped watching The Strippen play Metro: Last Light because I was given major spoilers and there's no point in watching it anymore.

Once I've had something spoiled for me, I can't get it out of my head, unfortunately.

I had the identity of the killer in Broadchurch spoiled for me a couple of weeks ago, and I am not happy about it.

Once you've seen or heard the spoilers immediately acquire these and consume until you can't remember your own name, let alone anything else.
