I'll say the big one is probably Shmups for me as well. They look really slick & occasionally I'll cave & buy one, but then drop it after a few levels (failed runs, etc.).
I'll also echo the user who said Visual Novels. I've played a couple & I like to play more, but when I'm playing a game I'm just itching to do something at all times, so their largely passive nature starts to get to me after awhile.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@MarioLover92 I've gotten to the stage in fighting games where I've pretty much got the inputs down. I still lose the majority of my online matches lol.
I'm too much of a casual player to get really good at a game. The part about fighting games I enjoy is discovering combos. Guilty Gear Xrd is my favourite at the moment, the Roman cancel system, makes it feel very free form.
I find adventure games pretty fun, at least until I reach that one puzzle that leaves me completely stumped and I need to contemplate looking up the answer or not.
Slay The Spire. I enjoy the game while I am playing it, but I have never won a single full run. Honestly, that has discouraged me as of late.
EDIT: Oops, I thought this was asking for a specific game. Answer is still the same except I am switching to Card Games as my answer instead of a specific game.
Dang who would of guess that this would be brought back. But yeah I forgot to mention that I also stink at fighting games. (How anyone is supposed to remember all those button combinations is beyond me)
I love survival horror games, but my brain really doesn't have the capacity to solve most puzzles and play strategically, so i almost always end up looking up guides/restarting from save points ;-;
Fighting games, because my anxiety won’t let me even hit the online button, even after learning a combo, so I legit suck at them, and soulsborns, I love ‘em so much!
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Yeah, definitely fighting games for me too. I just don't have the time nor the ability to commit to learning a character's complete moveset with combos and things like that. That's why I've tended to avoid games like Tekken and Street Fighter, because while they seem very fun to play, you need to commit hard to learning a character well.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition (Switch)
Balatro (PC)
Another one for fighting games. While I do enjoy them, like most I don't have the time nor dedication to put into them to get good. I usually play the story mode (if there is one) on the lowest difficulty just so I can see the story. I might play a few rounds of VS with some friends who are equally just ad bad as me but I wont touch online at all. I think the only one I played online was Street Fightet IV and that was just to see what it was like, but after a few rounds of getting my ass kicked, that was enough for me.

Competitive Multiplayer - Being the old man that I am, I just don't have the twitch-skills to hang with the kids these days, and I always end up hating myself for being dead weight and dragging the team down.
4X - It's a genre best played with a mouse and keyboard.
Beyond those, I like just about any genre of game.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,529 games (as of November 20th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 3 games (as of November 23rd, 2025)
Fighting games. I can't do combos and stuff like that. They're still pretty fun, though.
Shooters. More specifically, online shooters. I just suck at them. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the genre, but there are times where I want to throw my controller across the room because I keep getting two-shotted from across the map.
Another one here for fighting games. I'm not the best at them, but I still like playing them. Realized this playing the Mortal Kombat series recently. I even beat the original Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 3, however, it was on the easiest difficulty.
