We probably won't see another Sonic game till next year at best. They seem to be reeling off of Boom being a bomb, and wants to give Sonic Team a full dev cycle.
This. They've already confirmed that they won't be at E3, so that confirms no new Sonic. Which is for the best really, because they should focus on making the 25th anniversary game next year the best it can possibly be, this next game will make or break them.
Will it be glorious, like Generations? Or will it suck, like 06? I hope it's the former, because I'm actually a big Sonic fan.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...
It's nice to see Nintendo getting these out of the way, I may actually be surprised with what they show. I figured like half would just be localization announcements and stuff we already knew about. But maybe I'm wrong

I'm not convinced there will be a true 25th anniversary game, rather a HD remaster of Generations for Xbox One and PS4 (maybe Wii U).

If they end up doing that, the only way I'll buy it is if they add more stages. Maybe add a second stage from the 9 games from the first game. And maybe add in a level from Lost World.

Honestly what Sonic really needs is too get rid of the 2D stuff at this point and slow down the gameplay a bit. It really needs to be Mirror's Edge, meets Banjo. A sprawling open world divided into Zones that uses the travseral mechanics from lost world and when you go to do a level for the story you get put into levels like Sonic Adventure. Have three playable charcaters and upgrades to give it a sense of metroidvina.
Quantum Break was just confirmed by Remedy to be skipping E3 in favor of Gamescom which makes sense. It makes me wonder if Lionhead's new IP will be pushed for a Gamescom reveal as well.
WAT!

Major Problem with the newer style of Sonic Games (Generations/Unleashed/Colors) was that the 3D segments boiled down to boost your butt to the end without any real platforming. Its sort of inherent problem with sonic that his Gimmick doesn't really fit into 3D platforming as well.
I love me some Sonic, but i'm not sure If I want another 2D/Running 3D game.
I think the three games I want to see the most this year happen to be Star Fox, Scalebound, and Project Horizon.

No, this is would do more harm than good. Open world doesn't really work with speed either, it's designed to be slow and sprawling so that you take your time exploring everything. This is pretty much the exact opposite of speed gameplay, there needs to be a sense of linearity in the level design so players always know where they're going.
As far as the lack of platforming, a better idea would be to add in mechanics that blend speed and platforming well like momentum physics and parkour and create platforming for them that accommodates them better. We shouldn't see a lot of blocky platforming like we see in a Mario game, that kind of design tends to grind the game to a halt. The level design should be directed, meaning there should be some room to move around and explore a bit, but the main path should always have a clear direction so people don't get lost easily (good examples of this are Lost World's planetoid design and some of 06's levels). If they do all of this then they don't really need to slow the game down significantly (which is just as well, since the speed is a major part of Sonic's identity and the high speed of the Modern formula is something that really makes Sonic stand out).
It's hard to believe E3 is almost upon us already... I can't wait! Fallout 4 is what I'm most looking forward too, so far anyway!

Crossing my fingers for PvZ3 instead. With George Fan returning to develop and Laura Shigihara returning to compose and no more free to play and...
This is a pipe dream isn't it?
